Hyderabad cops return 1,130 stolen phones to owners, devices worth Rs 3.5 crore

HYDERABAD: The Rachakonda police recovered 1,130 lost or stolen mobile phones worth Rs 3.5 crore and returned them to their rightful owners. According to police officials, about 3,694 lost or stolen phones have sbeen recovered so far this year.
Acting on the instruction of commissioner of police G Sudheer Babu, the police formed special teams to trace lost or stolen mobile phones using the Central Equipment Identity Portal, a centralised database that tracks lost mobile phones and other devices.
The teams recovered 1,130 phones in two months, police said. The commissioner urged the public to protect personal data and use strong passwords for devices.
