Cercle Brugge captain set for Antwerp switch
are reporting that Antwerp are closing in on signing Cercle Brugge captain Thibo Somers. The attacker only has one year left on his deal in Brugge and was reportedly looking to move to a top six side, despite Cercle trying to keep him at the club. The fee is said to be in the region of just €2m. Somers has spent his entire career to date at Cercle Brugge, having come through the youth system and into the first team. Last year he was the sides captain and had his best season to date, despite the side struggling after qualifying for Europe the season prior. The 26-year-old scored a career high nine goals and grabbed three assists in 53 games. He is set to leave the club with 189 appearances and 31 goals. Antwerp are signing a versatile player with plenty of experience. Somers can play out wide, behind the striker or in some instances as a main striker. His main attribute has for a long time been his work rate and drive to win, which was crucial in helping Cercle Brugge avoid relegation last season. GBeNeFN | Ben Jackson

Celtic join race to sign ‘sought after' defender who impressed at Euro Under 21 championships with Portugal
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Celtic are reportedly interested in signing Cercle Brugge full-back Flavio Nazinho. Media in Portugal say the 21-year-old is being monitored by the Scottish champions, but they face stiff competition for the defender's signature. Sign up for the Celtic newsletter Sign up 2 Flavio Nazinho impressed for Portugal U21s Credit: Getty 2 He played against Kilmarnock last season Credit: PA Brendan Rodgers is looking to strengthen his options at left-back for competition with Kieran Tierney after Greg Taylor moved to PAOK. New signing Hayato Inamura showed up well in his first appearance in Hoops in this week's pre-season friendly against Cork City and could fill in at left-back if needed. His performance has even made Rodgers reconsider sending him out on loan to gain first-team experience this season, but it is being claimed by Record they're in the hunt for another defender. Nazinho spent a year on loan at Brugge from Sporting Lisbon before making the move to Belgium permanent last summer in a €1million (£900,000) deal. The club's sporting director Rembert Vromant at the time, said: 'We are convinced that Nazinho, based on his matches and training, has the potential to take Cercle to the next level with his speed, excellent mentality and his versatility." He made 39 appearances for Cercle last season which included both legs against Kilmarnock in a Europa League second round qualifier. He missed the Conference League clash with Hearts later on due to a hamstring injury. Despite competing in Europe, Cercle Brugge narrowly avoided relegation from the Belgian top flight last season winning the play-off against Patro Eisden to stay up. And reports in Belgium suggest they need to sell players as they face a €15m deficit, with no income from European competition to fall back on. Having also impressed at the Under 21 Euro Championships, Cercle are bracing themselves for offers for the talented 21-year-old. Nazinho assisted Portugal team-mate and Celtic midfielder Paulo Bernardo in the 5-0 win over Poland, but they exited the competition to the Netherlands in the quarter-finals. Cercle Brugge's club's CEO Klaas Reynaert admitted: "Nazinho played a brilliant European U21 Championship and is highly sought after. "We are not in a position to refuse a good offer. A good offer must always be considered to remain financially sound." According to the report in Portugal, Celtic face competition from Serie A giants Roma and La Liga outfit Real Sociedad for his signature. The Hoops are in Portugal currently at their pre-season camp in Lisbon as Rodgers puts his men through their paces. They have their third game in seven this month in a closed door friendly against Estrela Da Amadora on Saturday, before facing Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday. Flavio Nazinho fits Celtic transfer bill as Brendan Rodgers 'targets' Kieran Tierney back up solution
The former Sporting CP kid is currently with Cercle Brugge in Belgium after making the move from Portugal last year Cercle Brugge left back Flavio Nazinho is reportedly a transfer target for Celtic. The 21-year-old Portuguese would solve a problem for Brendan Rodgers, who is looking for a Kieran Tierney understudy following Greg Taylor' s departure to greek outfit PAOK. With Tierney certain to be Rodgers' first choice at left back, a younger back up with potential to develop and slot in when Tierney is needed at left centre back is what's required and Nazinho seems to fit the bill. Nazinho came through the ranks at Sporting CP, who the Hoops play next week in a pre-season friendly in Lisbon before flying home to face Newcastle United. They would be due 15 per cent of any fee received by Cercle Brugge if a deal is done. The Belgians paid €1million for Nazinho last summer, with another €1million potentially due in add-ons. Nazinho played 39 times in all competitions last term as Cercle finished runners up in the Jupiler Pro League. Europe, Boydy & derby goals - McKenzie's Kilmarnock memories
Kilmarnock take on local rivals Ayr United on Friday in a 'friendly'... If that's possible between the two. It's, of course, for Rugby Park legend, Rory McKenzie's testimonial. He made his debut for Kilmarnock 14 years ago as a teenager and has enjoyed some superb moments throughout the years. Advertisement As he prepares for his big night, he racked his brain and singled out a few stand-out memories of his time with the Ayrshire club. Cercle Brugge One that springs instantly to his mind is last season's European adventure, when Killie came close to knocking out Cercle Brugge in the Europa League qualifiers. A 1-1 draw at a packed Rugby Park was then followed by a narrow 1-0 defeat in front of a sizeable travelling support who'd looked out their football passports for the first time since 2019. Staying up "Staying up on the last day of the season, the day Boydy scored." Hibs fans, look away now. Advertisement Another standout memory for McKenzie was the final day of the season in 2014 when talismanic striker Kris Boyd scored the only goal of the game at Easter Road to secure Killie's top-flight status, and condemn Hibs to a relegation play-off. The Easter Road side, with Terry Butcher as manager, went on to lose in a penalty shoot-out against Hamilton Accies and join city rivals Hearts in the second tier. Goals against Ayr United This one will go down well with Friday's testimonial opponents. Among McKenzie's fond memories are the two goals he's scored against Ayr United. The first, the only goal of a League Cup tie in August 2014. The second, the opener in a 3-1 win at Somerset Park in the Championship in March 2022.
