India call up discarded pacer before Lord's Test, bowls a long spell to captain Shubman Gill in the nets

The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy is heating up. The five-match series between India and England stands at 1-1, and both teams have everything to play for in the third Test at the Lord's Cricket Ground. Shubman Gill's India is leaving no stone unturned in preparing to the best of their ability. They are well aware that a win at the home of cricket will give them a serious advantage and a real chance of winning their first-ever series in the UK since 2007. Ahead of the third Test at Lord's, India called up discarded pacer and he had a bowl at captain Shubman Gill. (PTI) On the eve of the Lord's Test, Shubman Gill, who is currently the leading run-scorer in the series, was seen grinding it out in the nets. However, what caught everyone's attention was the bowler he was facing. Deepak Chahar, who recently represented the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, was seen having a bowl at the India captain in the nets. Chahar bowled a lengthy spell, and Gill grinded it out in the middle as he faced the discarded India pacer while training. According to ESPNCricinfo, Chahar was in the neighbourhood, and this was the main reason behind his coming to Lord's to train alongside the main squad. Even before the second Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham, the Indian squad was seen practising alongside Punjab Kings spinner Harpreet Brar. The latter then revealed that he, too, was in the nearby areas and was called upon by Shubman Gill. Also Read: Shubman Gill not one of those who get trained for what to say in media, claims Ashwin Chahar was spotted at the Lord's Cricket Ground for a few hours, and later he went his way after having a bowl. The right-arm pacer was also not wearing India's training gear. What did Rishabh Pant say? On the eve of the Lord's Test against England, India vice-captain Rishabh Pant addressed the media, discussing a wide range of topics. He stated that the team has not decided on the combination and that the final call will be made after examining the wicket. "See, as a team, generally, what we plan is to play according to the conditions given to us. We don't want to think about what the opposition is thinking—whether they are changing their plans or not. Whatever they're doing, we'll do our best and do better from there. Simple," said Pant. 'The discussion was that England will give us better wickets because the kind of cricket that they play. So for us, the mantra was to get 20 wickets on these batting-friendly wickets. That was already planned. Eventually, our batters have to step up because we don't have two of our senior players too,' he added. After the win at Edgbaston by 336 runs, India captain Shubman Gill had confirmed that Jasprit Bumrah will be back for the Lord's Test. Prasidh Krishna is likely to make way for the World No.1 Test bowler.

Ignored India Star Joins As Net Bowler Ahead Of 3rd England Test? Here's The Truth

Deepak Chahar was spotted training with the Indian cricket team ahead of the Test encounter against England at Lord's starting Thursday. With the series tied at 1-1 after two games, the third match at Lord's hold special importance when it comes to the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Ahead of the match, Chahar was spotted taking part in training with the team. However, he was not in training gear and the pacer is not part of the 18-member squad. While nothing was announced by the BCCI, it is likely that the fast bowler is helping his teammates prepare for the match. Earlier, Punjab Kings spinner Harpreet Brar also joined the side and he was seen bowling to the batters during net sessions. According to NDTV Consulting Editor Boria Majumdar, Chahar did not join the team in any capacity and he was there for just a day. India vice-captain Rishabh Pant on Wednesday slammed the quality of the Dukes ball being used in the ongoing Test series against England, saying he has never seen the red cherry go out of shape to this extent. Players approaching umpires to change balls has been a regular feature in the series with Dukes losing shape. The bowlers are not getting any help from the ball after it gets softer, confining the batter-bowler contest to the new ball. Ahead of the Lord's Test, starting Thursday, Pant said the ball has become a big problem and it is not good for the game. "The gauge (to measure the balls) should be the same (whether its Dukes or Kookaburra. But it would be better if it was smaller (laughs). The balls are giving so much trouble. Definitely, I feel it's a big problem. Because the ball is getting out of shape," said Pant. "What I've seen, the ball is getting de shaped too much. That has never happened like this to me. It's definitely irritating for the players because every ball plays differently because when it becomes softer, sometimes it's not doing too much. But as soon as it changes the ball, it's starting to do enough. "As a batsman, you've got a keep on adjusting to it. But at the same time, I feel it's not good for cricket anyway," said the explosive batter. India opted for two spinners and three pacers for the Edgbaston Test which they won by 336 runs. The Lord's pitch is expected to pose a tougher challenge for the batters. Pant did not confirm whether India would stick to the two spinner formula. "We will get to know by tomorrow whether it would be 3-1 or 3-2. When you see the wicket two days, sometimes it changes the colour, the moisture will become less also,' said the southpaw.

Deepak Chahar extends birthday wishes to former compatriot MS Dhoni, urges him to

New Delhi [India], July 7 (ANI): India pacer Deepak Chahar extended birthday wishes to his former Chennai Super Kings teammate and captain, MS Dhoni, urging him to 'keep playing'. 'Captain Cool' Dhoni turned 44 on Monday, and wishes of fans and former cricketers poured in across the globe. Chahar took to Instagram and posted a visual of himself with Dhoni in CSK colours, with both of them smiling. He captioned the post, 'Happy birthday, Mahi bhai. Keep playing.' Chahar shares a special bond with the former Indian captain on and off the field. The 32-year-old moved from Chennai Super Kings to Mumbai Indians before he 18th season of the cash-rich Indian Premier League. Despite playing for different sides, the banter between the duo continued. During the encounter between two of the most successful franchises, Chahar tried to sledge Dhoni when he came out to bat while fielding at short silly point. After the CSK's victory, Dhoni gestured at hitting Chahar with the bat, as the pacer laughed and moved forward during the customary handshake between both sides. With 17,266 international runs, 829 dismissals and 538 matches across formats for India, Dhoni is not only amongst the world's greatest players but also a revolutionary. In 350 ODIs, he scored 10,773 runs at an average of 50.57. He scored 10 centuries and 73 fifties for India, with the best score of 183*. He is India's sixth-highest scorer in ODIs (with Sachin Tendulkar at the top with 18,426 runs). The fact that he managed to score 10,000-plus runs at an average of over 50 while coming down the order makes his statistics even more astonishing. He led India in 200 ODI matches, winning 110, losing 74. Five games were tied, while 11 failed to produce a result. He has a winning percentage of 55. Dhoni, known as Chennai Super Kings' 'Thala' (leader), played 98 T20Is for India, scoring 1,617 runs at an average of 37.60, at a strike rate of 126.13. He has two half-centuries in the format, with the best score of 56. He was the winning captain of India's ICC T20 WC 2007 winning team. 'Mahi' led India in 72 T20Is, winning 41, losing 28, one being tied, and two failing to produce results. His win percentage is 56.94. Coming to his long-format career, Dhoni played 90 matches, scoring 4,876 runs at an average of 38.09. He scored six centuries and 33 half-centuries, with the best score of 224. He is the 14th-highest scorer for India in Tests. As a captain, he led India in 60 Test matches, out of which they won 27 matches, lost 18 and drew 15. With a win percentage of 45.00, he is one of India's most successful skippers across all eras. He led Team India to the number one ranking in the ICC Test Rankings. He is also the only Indian skipper to whitewash Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, doing so in the 2010-11 and 2012-13 series. Dhoni is just as reputable in franchise cricket, being the sixth-highest run-getter in IPL history, with 5,439 runs in 278 matches at an average of 38.30, including 24 fifties, at a strike rate of over 137. He has secured five IPL titles and two Champions League T20 titles with CSK, making the franchise one of the most popular entities in the sporting world, largely on the basis of his own brand and name. Crowds follow and different fan clubs chant 'Dhoni' 'Dhoni' in unison when the batting legend makes even as much as an appearance inside his dressing room, gearing up for a possible chance at batting. When Dhoni broke into the national team in 2004, nobody could have imagined the heights the then-23-year-old would go on to achieve as a wicketkeeper-batter. His quickfire stumping and catching abilities, massive sixes, and the trademark helicopter shot will no doubt stay fan favourites for generations to come. (ANI)

MI vs PBKS Qualifier 2 injury update: Will Yuzvendra Chahal and Deepak Chahar play today?

Mumbai Indians are all set to face off against the Punjab Kings at the Qualifier 2 match of IPL 2025 in Ahmedabad. The Hardik Pandya led franchise had got to this spot after winning the Eliminator clash against the Gujarat Titans while PBKS will have another shot at reaching the IPL Final after facing a drubbing at the hands of Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their last clash. However, both the teams have been marred by injuries with PBKS losing Yuzvendra Chahal in the last few matches due to a wrist injury while MI not having the services of pacer Deepak Chahar due to a leg injury. The good news for Punjab Kings fans is that Chahal, who has been out of action since 18 May, is likely to have regained full fitness. According to ESPNCricinfo, he was seen wearing wrist protection during a training session on the eve of the crucial match. Chahal reportedly played football, took some catches and threw a few balls, as well as bowling a couple of overs into an empty net. As for Chahar, the report states that the pacer had padding under and above his left knee. He was seen warming up and jogging in Ahmedabad, and the report notes that Chahar's comeback will depend on how he feels when he wakes up on Sunday. Meanwhile, Reece Topley was the only other player to make it to the stadium on Saturday, suggesting that Richard Gleeson — who made his debut in Chahar's place during the IPL Eliminator match — is unlikely to play in Qualifier 2. With 36 runs needed off the last two overs against Gujarat Titans, Gleeson did a very good job of restricting the GT batters with three consecutive dot balls before walking off the field due to injury.
