Border 2: Diljit Dosanjh removed from Sunny Deol's film amid boycott pressure?

Border 2, starring Sunny Deol in the lead role is making the headlines ever since the ambitious project was announced with a star-studded cast. However, in a twist of fate, it looks like Diljit Dosanjh might no longer be a part of the movie. Diljit Dosanjh ousted from Sunny Deol's Border 2? According to India Today's report, the actor-singer was dropped from the film. The decision, however, is said to be made collectively by the makers and the rest of the actors. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has officially boycotted the actor owing to controversial reasons related to his other film. While an official confirmation from the makers is still pending, Diljit was working on the upcoming movie at the National Defence Academy (NDA). The FWICE recently penned a letter regarding the singer and notified Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh about the actor-singer getting boycotted. The letter was written in hopes of the ministry withdrawing permission for the movie's shoot at NDA. Earlier, at Pinkvilla, we exclusively reported that Diljit was supposed to join the shoot on June 10. Reports indicate that actor Ammy Virk might replace the Chamkila star. Border 2 is the upcoming sequel to the 1997 blockbuster Border. The first installment was an epic war film set during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. Based on the events of the Battle of Longewala, the film was directed by JP Dutta. With Sunny Deol headlining the movie, it featured an ensemble cast of actors like Jackie Shroff, Suniel Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, Sudesh Berry, and Puneet Issar in leading roles. Apart from them, Border also had Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Tabu, Raakhee, Pooja Bhatt, and more in supporting roles. Coming to Border 2, the sequel movie will once again have Sunny Deol in the lead with Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty, Kapil Sharma, and more actors being part of it. The upcoming war film is directed by the Kesari fame Anurag Singh and is slated to release on January 23, 2026, coinciding with Republic Day next year.

Imtiaz Ali defends his Chamkila star Diljit Dosanjh amid Sardaar Ji 3 backlash: ‘Usmein desh bhakti ka jazba bhara hua hai'

Actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh is facing backlash for sharing screen space with Pakistani actor Hania Aamir in the film Sardaar Ji 3. In fact, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) issued a statement against Diljit and the producers of the movie, prompting the makers to release Sardaar Ji 3 only in overseas markets. Now, filmmaker Imtiaz Ali has come out in support of his Chamkila star amid the controversy. In an interview with NDTV, Imtiaz said, 'I can't say much on the row, but since I know Diljit, I can say that us mein deshbhakti ka jazbaa poora bhara hua hai (he is completely filled with the spirit of patriotism). He is a son of the soil. You can see at all his concerts, he shows up with the Indian flag.' The filmmaker added, 'He is not a guy who fakes things. Fakeness ke saath woh kuch nahi karta hai (he does nothing with fakeness). No one asked him to do it. At the end of all his concerts, he says, 'Main hoon Punjab' (I am Punjab), with the Indian flag.' Imtiaz Ali also addressed the backlash over the casting of Hania Aamir in Sardaar Ji 3. Imtiaz said, 'I don't know the details, but casting someone isn't the decision of the actor. I don't know how it went, but I know that uske andar desh prem bahut zyada hai (he has immense love for his country)… Jo log dekh paayenge unke andar ke sach ko, unko ye samajh mein aa jaayega (Those who are able to see the truth within him will understand this).' ALSO READ | Diljit Dosanjh snuck in his 'kirpan' at Met Gala behind Shakira, says Priyanka Chopra looked out for him as he was all alone: 'They said this is a weapon' In an earlier interview with BBC Asian Network, Diljit Dosanjh reacted to Hania Aamir's casting in Sardaar Ji 3. He said, 'Jab yeh film bani thi tab toh situation sab theek tha. Matlab jab yeh humne shoot kiya, February mein… February mein shoot kiya, tab situation theek thi, saara kuchh sahi chal raha tha. Uske baad, dekho bohot saari cheezein, badi cheezein humaare haath mein nahi hai. Toh yeh producers ne decide kiya ki yeh film obviously ab India toh nahi lagegi, toh isko overseas release karte hain. Toh obviously inka bohot paisa laga hua hai, aur jab yeh film ban rahi thi tab aisa kuchh tha nahi.'

DYK Shakira Unknowingly Helped Diljit Dosanjh Carry His Kirpan At Met Gala?

Diljit Dosanjh shared a funny story about how he snuck in his Kirpan at the Met Gala with the unexpected help of pop star Shakira, who didn't even know about his plan. Diljit Dosanjh made a grand debut at the Met Gala 2025 with his royal Maharaja inspired outfit. One key part of his look was the Kirpan, a traditional Sikh symbol, but the event organisers did not allow him to carry it at first as it was a weapon. Despite this, Diljit managed to sneak the Kirpan into the high profile red carpet. He shared a funny story about how he pulled it off with the unexpected help of pop star Shakira, who didn't even know about his plan. While talking to the BBC, the Chamkila star explained that Kirpan was an important part of his outfit and without it, the look will feel incomplete. Still, they didn't allow him to carry it. So, he asked if he could at least click a few pictures with it backstage. The team agreed to that. Diljit Dosanjh shared, 'So I was getting my photo clicked backstage when someone came and said, 'Hurry up, you're late.' So I just kept the kirpan with me and sat in the car. Then they said, 'You can't carry the kirpan on the red carpet. It's a weapon and it's not allowed.' I got out thinking, 'If someone asks me for it, I'll give it to them, but it'll hurt because it's a part of my look.' Ahead of me was Shakira. Her dress had a lot of metal, many pins and no one wanted to walk behind her because she's a huge star. Big stars get more attention and those behind them don't get much footage. So no one from my group wanted to go after her." 'I thought, 'It's okay. We've come this far, so let's go ahead.' As she walked through the metal detector, the machine started beeping. I had the kirpan in my hand. I thought, 'If I go with her, we'll either both get caught or neither of us will.' Because I was wearing a cape, the kirpan was hidden under it. The security checked Shakira but didn't even check me and said, 'Yeah, you can go.' They focused on checking her and I just stood there. Then I went in and the whole night I was proudly carrying the kirpan," Diljit explained. At the Met Gala 2025, Diljit Dosanjh was styled by designer Prabal Gurung, who created his outfit as a tribute to Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala. The look had a royal touch and stood out on the red carpet. This year's event was also special because Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan and Kiara Advani also made their first ever appearance at the high profile event. Along with them, well known Indian names like Sabyasachi, Manish Malhotra, Isha Ambani and Priyanka Chopra also added glamour to the event. First Published: June 26, 2025, 15:00 IST

Imtiaz Ali's Next Casts Vedang Raina-Sharvari In Partition-Era Love Story

Last Updated: Imtiaz Ali's upcoming film, starring Diljit Dosanjh, Sharvari, and Vedang Raina, is a period drama set against India's Partition. After Amar Singh Chamkila, filmmaker Imtiaz Ali is now turning his focus to a new period love story. His upcoming film, starring Vedang Raina and Sharvari, is set in the 1940s, during the time of India's Partition. The movie will explore the emotional toll of migration and the impact of historical upheaval on personal relationships. According to sources, the film is set in Punjab and follows a young couple whose lives are torn apart in the wake of Partition. 'Set in the 1940s, the movie looks at Partition and its after-effects from the lens of two lovers. While Sharvari plays the young female lead opposite Vedang, Imtiaz is in talks with two more leading ladies for other prominent roles as the film revolves around different generations of families," a source tells Mid-Day. Naseeruddin Shah is also part of the cast, while costume designer Sheetal Sharma, who previously collaborated with Imtiaz on Chamkila, has joined the team for this project as well. Recently, both Sharvari and Vedang took part in look tests as part of the pre-production process. If all goes according to plan, filming is expected to begin in August. The source adds, 'Through the movie, Imtiaz will trace the heartbreak that accompanies migration. Despite the theme, the story will not show Pakistan, and only make passing references to it." Though the title is yet to be announced, the film is already drawing attention thanks to its cast, historical backdrop, and the emotional storytelling style Imtiaz Ali is known for. Vedang Raina made his acting debut in 2023, playing Reggie Mantle in Zoya Akhtar's musical teen drama The Archies. Following this, he appeared in the 2024 action thriller Jigra. In addition to acting, Raina has lent his voice as a singer, performing four songs featured in his films. Meanwhile, Sharvari Wagh began her career behind the camera in 2015, working as an assistant director to filmmakers Luv Ranjan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali. She made her acting debut in 2020 with Kabir Khan's war drama web series The Forgotten Army – Azaadi Ke Liye. She made her film debut with Bunty Aur Babli 2 (2021), produced by Yash Raj Films, earning the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. In 2024, she gained wider recognition with the box office hit Munjya, a comedy horror film.
