ADB team visits Maharani's College, holds consultation on infrastructure upgrade

As part of the Karnataka Higher Education Transformation Project, a team of experts from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) visited Maharani's Arts College for Women and Maharani's Science College for Women in Mysuru on Thursday and held extensive interaction with the stakeholders. It was based on a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the Department of Higher Education and the ADB. The four-year project, sanctioned in 2023 with a financial outlay of ₹2,500 crore as a loan, aims to upgrade infrastructure, enhance academic facilities, and create employability skills among students in 440 Government First Grade Colleges, 107 polytechnic colleges, and 16 engineering colleges across the State. With the groundwork now complete, the project is ready for implementation, said a release. A nine-member ADB team, comprising global experts and scholars in education and development, is leading the consultation. Chandrashekar B., Joint Director, Department of Collegiate and Technical Education (DCTE), Mysore Region, emphasised the need to bridge skill gaps and build capacity in higher education. He said a lot more has to be done in the field of higher education and steps need to be taken to fill the skill gap among students, to enable them to excel, the release added. The ADB team interacted with faculty members, students and alumni of the college. The team toured the campus to apprise itself of the current state of the buildings and the infrastructure of the college.
