Delhi Confidential: Image change
The revamped Kerala BJP leadership announced by state unit chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar reflects the party's attempt at an image change ahead of the local body elections this year and Assembly polls next year. For instance, it has a Muslim vice-president in the state for the first time. And with the BJP eyeing Christian votes, Chandrashekhar has included three from the community in his team: a general secretary, a vice president and a secretary. Of the total 24 office bearers, seven belong to OBC communities, three are from Scheduled Castes and one is from a Scheduled Tribe. With the national leadership urging Chandrasekhar to infuse fresh energy, he has also appointed seven youngsters and one four women. Uniform Rule Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora has asked his officers to be in uniform whenever they speak to reporters. The directive came after he found several officers addressing the media in civilian clothing. He said police credibility is significantly enhanced when they are seen in uniform.

Oxford India Forum: Students should not see AI as challenge but as opportunity, says Rajeev Chandrasekhar
As the world enters the era of generative AI, with tools like ChatGPT and Gemini taking over the world, there is a real fear that these technologies will undermine the future of young students who are currently in colleges or are just coming out of their professional courses. As the Oxford India Forum held a panel discussion on AI and its role in the society, the conversation also addressed these concerns. advertisementThe panel discussion was attended by Rajeev Chandrashekhar, former IT Minister, Sameer Chauhan, Director UNICC, and Vikram Doraiswami, who is the High Commissioner of India in the UK. One of the key questions during the discussion, which was moderated by Prachetas Bhatnagar, who is Head of Strategy and Operations, Policy and Politics at Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, revolved around the anxiety among college students regarding the impact of AI on their careers. Replying to a question, Chandrashekhar said that AI would definitely bring big changes. 'AI is going to change the landscape of what we see as work. AI is changing the landscape of what we understand as innovation. (Earlier) I think search in many, many ways changed the dynamics and landscape of talent and who did well and who did not do so well at work,' he said. Then he elaborated that this would mean stark changes at workplaces. 'AI is going to take (change) to the next level. It's going to be an extremely deep change in the workflows. And the concept of talent and skills at work is going to be reimagined in ways that we cannot today understand,' he said. Yet, within the change there is the opportunity. 'I always tell students, don't underestimate the power of AI or how you will work and how you will succeed or fail,' said Chandrashekhar. 'And don't overestimate the hyperbole of AI and get threatened by it and see this as a challenge rather than an opportunity.'The discussion around AI was not just limited to its impact on careers or on workplaces. In the same discussion, the panelists also discussed the way forward for India as far as deep tech and AI is concerned, the concept of tech sovereignty and the social impact of AI, particularly around misinformation. 'If you think misinformation in the world of social media is a problem, that is going to look like a walk in the park when you see what's going to happen down the road with AI,' said Chandrashekhar.- Ends

Delhi HC dismisses plea by actor Jacqueline Fernandez to quash money-laundering case against her
The Delhi High Court on Thursday dismissed Hindi film actor Jacqueline Fernandez's petition seeking to quash a Rs 200 crore money laundering case linked to conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar, Live Law reported. The actor had moved court seeking to quash the Enforcement Directorate's case against her, along with a second supplementary chargesheet that names her as the tenth accused. In her plea, Fernandez claimed that she was a victim of Chandrasekhar's 'maliciously targeted attack'. 'There is absolutely no indication she had any involvement whatsoever in aiding him to launder his purportedly ill-gotten wealth,' the legal news outlet quoted the plea as saying. The petition said that in view of this, she could not be prosecuted for alleged money laundering. Fernandez's plea also stated that the Enforcement Directorate had acknowledged that Tihar Jail officials gave Chandrasekhar unrestricted access to mobile phones and other technology, which he allegedly used to deceive the original complainant and several film artists, including herself. The plea further argued that since the agency had already recorded her statement as a prosecution witness in the original fraud case, continuing proceedings against her in the money laundering case was unjustified. In the money laundering case, Chandrashekhar is accused of extorting around Rs 215 crore from Shivinder Singh, a former promoter of pharmaceutical giant Ranbaxy, and his wife Aditi Singh. Chandrashekhar had allegedly impersonated the Union home secretary, law secretary and an officer in the prime minister's office while speaking to them. On August 7, 2022, Chandrashekhar was arrested by the Delhi Police. The Enforcement Directorate is also investigating the allegations that Chandrashekhar used funds gained by cheating and extorting high-profile individuals to buy gifts for Fernandez. The agency had named the actor in a supplementary chargesheet in the case. The supplementary chargesheet alleged that Chandrashekhar gave gifts worth Rs 5.71 crore to Fernandez from the proceeds of crime generated by criminal activities, including extortion. The investigating agency also claimed that Fernandez was aware that the gifts given to her were the proceeds of crime.
