Raphael Saadiq adds S.F. date to extended run of solo shows
Just a month after finishing his sold-out tour with back-to-back hometown performances in Oakland, Raphael Saadiq is ready to hit the road again — this time with 22 more cities on the itinerary. The East Bay R&B legend brought his 'No Bandwidth: One Man, One Night, Three Decades of Hits' to only four cities this spring. A departure from his full-band concerts, the shows were story-driven affairs that took audiences back to his days as a boy at Elmhurst Middle School as well as behind-the-scenes as a hitmaker for award-winning artists like Kendrick Lamar and Beyoncé — all between performances of fan favorites like the Toni! Tony! Toné! classic 'Anniversary' and Lucy Pearls' 'Dance Tonight.' Saadiq's newly announced set of shows is expected to maintain that same conversational tone. Beginning on Sept. 7 at Sacramento's Channel 24, with a concert at San Francisco's Davies Symphony Hall to follow on Sept. 8, the tour concludes on Oct. 14 at the Laura Turner Concert Hall in the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville. Ticket presales begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, while the general sale starts at 10 a.m. Friday, July 11. His upcoming performance in San Francisco will mark Saadiq's third Bay Area appearance this year. He was also a special musical guest at the 2025 NBA All-Star Game at Chase Center in February. 'My sound has been shaped by the Bay from day one,' Saadiq told the Chronicle ahead of his televised performance at the game. 'Growing up in East Oakland, when I walked outside, there was always somebody in their garage playing. It just informed me to perform at levels of excellence.' A landmark year for the artist, Saadiq received his third Grammy Award that same month for his contributions to Beyoncé's ' Cowboy Carter,' which won album of the year. He also helped to pen the track 'I Lied To You,' featured in fellow Oakland native Ryan Coogler 's hit film ' Sinners,' which hit streaming service Max last week.

Netanyahu, Syria's president to meet in Washington: reports
Hebrew media reported Tuesday that a high-level meeting is expected to take place between 'Israeli' Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa in Washington, potentially marking a historic step toward normalization. According to Hebrew sources, the meeting could occur before the United Nations General Assembly convenes in September. Channel 24 reported that the anticipated meeting at the White House would include the signing of a security agreement between Netanyahu and Al-Sharaa, under the sponsorship of US President Donald Trump. The report emphasized that this agreement could serve as the first step toward a broader peace and normalization deal between the two. US mediation in final stages Israel Hayom cited sources close to the White House confirming that a US envoy was recently sent to Damascus to finalize the agreement. The deal would reportedly be guaranteed by the United States. The outlet also reported that President Trump is pushing for this 'Israel-Syria' agreement in exchange for Netanyahu's approval of a ceasefire deal in Gaza to end the ongoing war.

Zelenskyy says Ukrainian troops pushing back Russian forces in Sumy
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy speaks during a joint press conference with German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius (not pictured) after talks, amid Russia's attack on Ukraine, in Kyiv, Ukraine June 12, 2025. REUTERS/Thomas Peter Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Thursday that Ukrainian forces were gradually pushing Russian forces out of the border Sumy region, where Moscow has established a foothold in recent weeks. Russian forces have been moving into Sumy region since April when Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin called for the creation of a buffer zone after he said all Ukrainian troops had been evicted from a months-long incursion into Russia's western Kursk region. Both Russian and Ukrainian reports indicate that Russian forces have seized a series of villages in the region, which has for many months also come under heavy Russian air attacks. And Russian reports said Moscow's troops were advancing in the area. "Our units in Sumy region are gradually pushing back the occupiers," Zelenskyy said in his nightly video address. "I thank you! Thanks to every soldier, sergeant and officer for this result." The Ukrainian president provided no further details and offered no proof of Ukrainian advances in the area. Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak said there had been a concentration of Russian men and equipment in Sumy region because of months of military operations across the border in Kursk region. He advised caution to establish details of the situation on the ground. "I think (Ukraine's) military has the situation under control and I think we shall see a different picture in the coming days," Podolyak told Ukrainian TV Channel 24. The popular Ukrainian military blog DeepState, which charts the position of Russian troops using open-source materials, reported Russian gains in recent days around villages inside the border. Other Ukrainian bloggers said on Thursday that Russian forces had advanced to within 20 km (12 miles) of the city of Sumy and were likely to move southward on villages to secure high ground outside the city. Russian media reported similar advances through the region. One military site "Voyennoe Obozrenie" said Russian forces had made "significant progress" and were now positioned south of a major highway. © Thomson Reuters 2025.
