Takopi's Original Sin – Season 1 Episode 2 Recap & Review
Episode 2 Even though Shizuka is excelling at her classes, episode 2 of Takopi's Original Sin begins with word that, thanks to Takopi, Marina doesn't do anything to her. As Shizuka and the alien go for a walk with Chappy, the girl opens up about her parents' divorce. The dog was the last thing her father left to her, so there's another for her to love him so much. That's when Takopi realizes it's the sixth day he has been with Shizuka. Meaning, they're a few hours from her suicide. Then, everything starts coming together when Marina arrives and harasses the girl. She beats Shizuka up so much that Chappy bites Marina's hand to save her owner. However, that's exactly what she wanted. She screams that the dog is ferocious until the whole street listens, and the animal control ultimately takes him away. Takopi tries his best to turn back time and stop that, but he can't. No matter when or where they take a walk, Marina is there. He realizes the girl is searching for them, trying to get the dog to bite her. Although he doesn't understand, he still tries to make Shizuka happy. In one of his attempts, the dog is still taken away, but they go to the shelter to get him. However, they can't, and Shizuka's mother doesn't even care. She says the pet will stay with the girl's father, and then she goes away to work, ignoring her daughter's sadness. Takopi convinces Shizuka to go to school to distract her, but everyone in her class teases and scolds her. The only one who attempts to help her is Azuma. However, the girl ignores his help once again. After school, Marina finds Shizuka and takes her to the middle of the woods so they can talk about Chappy. She did that only to tell the girl that her dog is dead and that she doesn't have anything to live for. Filled with anger for the situation her family is going through, Marina beats up Shizuka and says the girl should die. Takopi is horrified by that. Everything bad that has ever happened to Shizuka flashes through his mind, giving him the courage to protect his friend… And he kills Marina. The alien smacks the kid in the head with the camera to stop her, but he's so strong that he kills her then and there. He can't believe what's happening, and worrying thoughts flood his head. Shockingly, Shizuka is having the opposite reaction. She's almost beaming with happiness. The girl didn't believe in magic, but she had always wanted Marina gone. Now, she feels that magic might exist, and she thanks Takopi. She smiles and cries at the sight, ready to move on with her life. Meanwhile, Takopi still doesn't understand what he has done and what he should do. After using the camera to hit the girl, it doesn't work anymore. So, he can't use it to travel back in time. That's the beginning of Takopi's story and his sin. The Episode Review Another shocking episode right off the bat. Takopi's Original Sin now ups the stakes for the main characters, putting them in a situation with probably no potential good ending. It's a great reversal to have Takopi be the sad and worried one at the end, while Shizuka is ecstatic and believing in magic. Honestly, the middle portion of the episode is a bit underwhelming. Every character being awful to Shizuka and not even the teachers helping her feels like a bit too much. It's as if the story is trying too hard to make her suffer (which is true in a way). So, having Azuma be kind to her is a breath of fresh air that helps with that. But still it isn't enough. That's why the twist at the end is so good. These girls are dealing with problems they don't have enough maturity to understand, and the same goes for Takopi. He wants to help, but he's way out of his depth. It's nerve-wracking seeing every bad memory flashing through his mind, and you can feel his desire to help. However, he possibly made everything worse. Takopi's Original Sin just gave us a bigger plot twist than last time, showing it doesn't have any limits to what the characters might do or where the story will go. Mystic Aquarium releases rehabilitated seals in Rhode Island
MYSTIC, Conn. (WWLP) – Mystic Aquarium released six gray seals back into their natural habitat in Westerly, Rhode Island, Tuesday morning following weeks of rehabilitation care. Aquarium officials stated that these seals were rescued on Block Island between late March and early April when they were found entangled in fishing gear and marine debris. Mystic Aquarium's animal care professionals gave each gray seal individualized treatment within the Animal Rescue Program across the following six to eight weeks. Second Chance Animal Services seek foster families for pregnant pets Now fully rehabilitated, the seals were brought to Wuskenau Town Beach to be released into the Atlantic Ocean. Mystic Aquarium staff invited staff and volunteers from the Block Island Maritime Institute, as well as New Haven police officers who helped rescue Chappy the seal back in February, to open the kennels and guide the seals into the ocean. 'Releasing these six seals back into their natural habitat in the Atlantic Ocean following nearly two months of rehabilitation is a true testament to Mystic Aquarium's care and compassion for these animals,' said Sarah Callan, Animal Rescue Program Manager at Mystic Aquarium. 'As entanglement cases continue to increase in line with upticks in seal populations, our team cherishes the opportunity to help these animals and strengthen marine ecosystems up and down the East Coast.' To date in 2025, Mystic's Animal Rescue Program has rescued and rehabilitated 24 seals so far. This program costs $600,000 annually, with expenses such as supplies, medications, salt water for rehab pools, transportation, and other essentials. Due to recent funding cuts, only two of the seals released on Wednesday were able to be fitted with satellite tags–the last two in the aquarium's current inventory. New Haven students have animals in mind during Lighthouse Point beach cleanup
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — If you are heading to the beach on this sunny Wednesday, the sand at Lighthouse Point in New Haven is now a lot cleaner. Students at a local magnet school spent their morning picking up garbage, but they were doing so to benefit the animals, not humans. Bit by bit, the beach Lighthouse Point got a lot cleaner thanks to the students of Benjamin Jepson Magnet School. For weeks, they've been learning about marine animals and the challenges facing them. Sea turtle at Mystic Aquarium gets prosthetic harness to help him swim 'I don't want them to die just because of plastic, so we decided to help Mystic Aquarium a lot of money so they could help out,' Jepson seventh-grader Domenica Leon said. The school raised $3,800 for the animal rehabilitation program at Mystic Aquarium. 'Cleaning up our beaches, getting that marine debris off the beaches is one of the things that is really going to help animals that are in Long Island Sound,' Shelagh Smith, a program specialist at Mystic Aquarium, said. Cleaning up a beach is always good work, but there's also a good reason this school chose to learn about marine wildlife and their environment. A high-profile visitor to New Haven earlier this year really sealed the deal. Chappy, a seal found on a New Haven street, dies at Mystic Aquarium In the middle of February, a baby seal ended up in the middle of Chapel Street. They named him Chappy and took him to Mystic Aquarium. Unfortunately, he was sick and didn't last long, but he had a big impact on the Elm City. 'Since Chappy the seal came up here, we were very confused by that and we wanted to research why that was happening,' eighth-grader Zaria Reyes said. 'So, every year we do a Jepson day of justice, and we pick a cause that we'd like to learn about and raise money for,' explained Jepson Magnet Resource Teacher Barbara Wickwire. 'We were definitely inspired by the story of Chappy because he was basically in the backyard of our school.' Chappy was just one of many and many kinds of animals that Mystic tries to nurse back to health. 'A lot of work at trying to get those animals healthy again and re-released back out into their natural habitat, and while we do that, we can collect amazing information,' Smith said. Cop delivers pizza after delivery driver finds 8-foot alligator hiding under customer's car
A police officer ended up delivering a pizza to a customer in Florida after the delivery driver discovered an 8-foot alligator hiding under a car near the front door of the home, police said. The incident occurred on Sunday in Bradenton, Florida, when police were responding to a report of an 8-foot alligator wandering through the River Isles neighborhood, according to a statement from the Bradenton Police Department. Officer Tolson of the Bradenton Police Department arrived moments later and the delivery driver, wanting nothing to do with the alligator, asked the officer to deliver the pizza instead. Man caught attempting to smuggle living turtle through airport security down the front of his pants
A Pennsylvania man attempting to go through airport security was discovered to have been hiding a living turtle in his pants as he tried to sneak it onto the plane, authorities said. The incident took place last Friday at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey when a man from Pennsylvania was going through a body scan in the security area when an alarm was triggered "in the area of the man's groin," according to a statement from the Transportation Security Administration on Tuesday. "When asked if there was something hidden in his pants, the man, a resident of East Stroudsburg, Pa., reached down the front of his pants and pulled out a live turtle that was wrapped in a small blue towel." The turtle was estimated to be approximately five inches in length and identified to be a red-ear slider turtle – one of the most popular breeds of pet turtle in the United States - by the man once he was caught by airport security. "We have seen travelers try to conceal knives and other weapons on their person, in their shoes and in their luggage, however I believe this is the first time we have come across someone who was concealing a live animal down the front of his pants.
