Patriots Super Bowl legend inducted into second Hall of Fame

New England Patriots legend Rodney Harrison can now say he belongs in two separate Hall of Fames. The Patriots inducted the two-time Super Bowl champion into the Patriots Hall of Fame in 2019. On social media, the Los Angeles Chargers revealed they will be inducting Harrison into the Chargers Hall of Fame as well in a halftime ceremony slated for Thursday, October 23. Advertisement Harrison played 15 years in the NFL, including nine with the Chargers. He appeared in 123 games and started in 97. He had 760 combined tackles and 21.5 sacks throughout those nine seasons. He eventually landed with the Patriots as a free agent in 2003 and instantly became one of the core leaders of the defense under coach Bill Belichick. Overall, Harrison had 1,206 combined tackles and 30.5 sacks throughout 15 seasons. "Rodney personified an era of Chargers football defined by physicality, emotion, relentless effort, toughness and grit," said President of Football Operations John Spanos, via "For nearly a decade, he gave everything he had to the Chargers, establishing a standard of accountability and setting the bar for competitive greatness. Some would argue that Harrison's career is worthy of a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Advertisement He was one of the most physical and dominant safeties of his era. The Patriots named him to their All-2000s Team and All-Dynasty Team. Both are worthy honors for one of the best defensive backs to ever wear a Patriots uniform. "Why aren't I playing more?'' Harrison inquired years ago. The scribes weren't sure and they didn't have to ponder the question long. Harrison, a fifth-round pick in 1994 soon shed his status as a special-teams player to become an All-Pro safety in a career which has landed him into the Chargers Hall of Fame. Harrison, who'll be inducted at halftime of Los Angeles' game against the Minnesota Vikings on Oct. 23. The upbeat Harrison had a sensational run of delivering hard-nosed, in-your-face, football that made him one of the most feared defenders of his generation. His style came with a price as he was fined more than $200,000 for questionable hits, a dose of regular discipline that often came with suspensions. Harrison, though, shrugged while noting that he was doing his part to prove the worth of safeties. Harrison, a long-time member of NBC's 'Sunday Night Football' telecast, has a resume that screams Pro Football Hall of Fame. Over his 15 seasons, with the first nine coming in San Diego and the final six with the New England Patriots where he won two Super Bowls, Harrison was named All-Pro and Pro Bowler twice and became the first player to record 30 interceptions and 30 sacks in a career.
