Ricky Hatton, Michael Watson and Barry Hearn to be awarded Freedom of the City of London at black-tie boxing event
Boxing legends Ricky Hatton, Michael Watson and Barry Hearn are set to receive one of the capital's oldest civic honours, the Freedom of the City of London, at a high-profile charity boxing night this October. The trio, recognised for their outstanding contributions to British boxing, will be honoured at a black-tie fundraiser at London's historic Guildhall on Wednesday 8 October 2025, alongside The Lord Mayor of London, Alderman Alastair King DL. The event, titled City Fight Night, will feature six bouts of white-collar boxing between members of the London Fire Brigade, selected by renowned amateur club Fitzroy Lodge, and their counterparts from the New York City Fire Department. Speaking ahead of the event, former world champion Hatton said: 'I'm absolutely chuffed to bits to be given the Freedom of the City of London. It's a real honour and something I never imagined happening to me... It'll be a great night for a great cause, and I can't wait to be part of it.' Hearn, the founder and president of Matchroom, called the honour a 'privilege' and said the evening 'promises to be a knockout event in every sense'. Watson, whose courage and resilience following a life-changing injury in the ring earned him widespread respect, will also be formally recognised on the night. Adding to the occasion, the Lord Mayor himself will step into the ring for a special exhibition bout against a mystery opponent from New York. 'Boxing is one of my passions and I cannot wait to venture into the ring myself,' he said. 'In fact, this will be the first time a Lord Mayor of London has seen active combat whilst in office since the Peasants' Revolt of 1381!' The event, hosted by actor and presenter Terry Stone, is being held in partnership with The Lord Mayor's Appeal and sponsored by Bloomberg. It aims to raise funds for charities that use boxing to steer young people away from crime, and for organisations supporting the mental and physical wellbeing of UK firefighters. All three honourees - Hatton, Watson and Hearn - will join an exclusive list of recipients of the Freedom of the City, a tradition that dates back to the 13th century.

Rock Icon, 78, Makes Rare Charity Appearance With Beautiful Wife, 47
Rock Icon, 78, Makes Rare Charity Appearance With Beautiful Wife, 47 originally appeared on Parade. Classic rock legend stepped out for a rare charity event appearance with his stunning wife to support the Tusk Trust Limited in London on July 16, and the iconic couple was all smiles during the outing. The Rolling Stones guitarist, 78, posed alongside his partner, 47, while standing next to a massive turtle sculpture that Wood designed specifically for the charity. The couple looked very stylish during the outing, with the musician opting for skinny black trousers, a black patterned shirt, and a grey jacket. He also included some chunky white sneakers and black sunglasses to finish off the look. As for his wife, she rocked a gorgeous red patterned long-sleeved dress, which she paired with a gold purse, gold shoes, and gold sunglasses—and needless to say, her outfit was on point. Wood is a Tusk ambassador, so it makes sense to see him lending his artistic talents to them for a good cause. Tusk is, according to their website, 'a dynamic and adaptable organisation with over 30 years' experience initiating and funding wildlife conservation programmes across Africa.' Their Wednesday event was the launch of their Tusk Turtle Trail throughout London, which is a trail that hosts 16 different turtle sculptures designed by friends of the charity that are set up near famous landmarks and sights. Alongside Wood, various English writers and artists designed turtles for the project, which will be on display across London until September. Famous English comic John Cleese (and his wife, Jen) is also among those who designed a turtle. Tusk will have a live auction for the turtles in October, but in the meantime hopes they 'invite passersby to pause, reflect and engage with urgent marine conservation issues.' Wood and his wife last appeared at a charity event when they were photographed at Tusk's Conservation Awards back in November 2024. LOOK: Steelers Stars Aaron Rodgers, DK Metcalf Together at Charity Event
LOOK: Steelers Stars Aaron Rodgers, DK Metcalf Together at Charity Event originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Pittsburgh Steelers' pursuit of quarterback Aaron Rodgers lasted three months and took various turns, from 'The Pat McAfee Show' to 'The Joe Rogan Experience' and a country club the passer hadn't joined. Advertisement After officially signing on Saturday, the Rodgers saga quickly returned to another golf course, where defensive end Cam Heyward's 'Irons for Impact' outing was underway. Pittsburgh's starting quarterback made a public appearance, and he wasn't alone. Photos of new Steelers stars Rodgers and DK Metcalf emerged on Monday, sending fans into an optimistic frenzy. Metcalf, whom Pittsburgh traded a second-round pick for in March, worked out with Rodgers during the offseason, setting off another news cycle worth of rumors. Even so, it still took the quarterback weeks to make his decision. He did so just in time for training camp. Advertisement Heyward seems happy to have the upgrade under center, although he wasn't going to beg for Rodgers to come to Western Pennsylvania. "Yes, it was misconstrued. From my point of view, I was asked the question of, 'Would you go to the lengths of going to a darkness retreat to recruit Aaron Rodgers?' I said, 'I'm not doing that,' " Heyward said on "Good Morning Football" in March. "The pitch is: If you wanna be a Steeler, be a Steeler. It wasn't meant that I don't like Rodgers or I'm against it. I think when I look at our team right now, it would be really cool to have a guy like Aaron Rodgers, but I can't be the guy who gets it over the finish line. I think he's got to make those decisions for himself." With Rodgers and Metcalf in the building, the Steelers' offense should be more consistent than in 2024. Russell Wilson exceeded expectations but struggled down the stretch, a victim of his own volatility. Receiver George Pickens, who Pittsburgh traded after the NFL Draft, fills the same role as Metcalf, but came with his own baggage. Finally, the pieces of the offensive puzzle have been put together. The Steelers are flawed, sure. But they are better now than they were in the days after the draft, and chemistry will soon begin to grow. Advertisement As Heyward noted earlier in the offseason, the goal in Pittsburgh is straightforward. Rodgers takes them a step closer to accomplishing it. 'I would just say, you know, if you come to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the goal is to win. You know, we haven't had the success we want, but the goal is still in mind to raise a Lombardi and bring that seventh one to Pittsburgh. We don't really care about the glitz and glam of New York, but the focus is on good hard football, competing every day, challenging each other, trying to go from there."
