LIV Golf is coming to South Africa in 2026

LIV Golf's 2026 season is shaping up to be one of the most internationally focused yet, with a schedule that includes nine tournaments outside of the United States. According to sources who have seen the preliminary schedule, LIV Golf's 2026 season will kick off with six straight international events, a significant increase compared to the four in the opening weeks of 2025. While the schedule has yet to be confirmed, reports are that these locations are '100 percent' confirmed, with the only expected changes being dates. Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – February 5-7 – February 5-7 Adelaide, Australia – February 12-14 – February 12-14 Hong Kong – March 6-8 – March 6-8 Singapore – March 13-15 – March 13-15 South Africa – March 20-22 (first ever LIV event in South Africa) – March 20-22 Mexico City – April 17-19 – April 17-19 Washington DC/Virginia – May 15-17 – May 15-17 South Korea – May 29-31 – May 29-31 Spain – June 5-7 – June 5-7 New Orleans – June 26-28 – June 26-28 UK – July 24-26 – July 24-26 Chicago – August 7-9 – August 7-9 Indianapolis – August 21-23 – August 21-23 Michigan – August 28-30 South African tournament The 2026 schedule marks the first-ever LIV Golf event in South Africa. This highly anticipated addition is a win for the Stinger GC, the all-South African team consisting of Louis Oosthuizen, Charl Schwartzel, Dean Burmester, and Branden Grace, all of whom have long pushed for a tournament on their home soil. The venue remains unconfirmed, but the event will be a landmark moment for the tour. No Japan Event A previously rumoured Japan event looks to have been delayed, with the 2026 schedule not including a stop. Instead, Hong Kong and Singapore will see action in March. International focus early in the season The 2026 season would begin with six consecutive international tournaments in February and March, including notable locations like Saudi Arabia, Australia, Hong Kong, and Singapore. This marks a shift toward a truly global LIV Golf tour and presents significant international opportunities for players and sponsors alike. US leg starts late in the season The first LIV event in the United States will not come until May 15-17 in DC/Virginia, just a week before the PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club near Philadelphia. This marks a strategic move for LIV to avoid overlapping with the traditional PGA Tour schedule. No LIV Miami or Dallas In a notable omission, the LIV Golf Miami and LIV Golf Dallas events are absent from the 2026 calendar, despite the popularity of these locations in previous seasons. Instead, the tour continues its trend of visiting new cities and countries, suggesting that LIV Golf will continue to prioritise global expansion over returning to established US venues. If this schedule holds, LIV Golf will maintain its aggressive push to grow the sport globally, especially in emerging markets such as South Africa, South Korea, and Mexico. The addition of a South African event will undoubtedly be a significant moment for the country's golf scene, as well as a response to the growing call for more international representation on the tour. For LIV players, the extended international schedule provides more opportunities for travel, promotion, and securing sponsorships in regions where the tour is looking to make a lasting impact. With high-profile locations like Riyadh and Hong Kong, LIV continues to solidify its commitment to broadening the scope of professional golf. As the schedule remains unfinalised, LIV Golf fans and players alike are eagerly awaiting official confirmation, likely to come in the next few weeks. ‘It means the world': Potgieter makes history with dramatic playoff win at Rocket Classic

In a week where sporting headlines were dominated by experience, youth had the final word. South Africa's Aldrich Potgieter, barely out of his teens, made history at the Rocket Mortgage Classic on Sunday, outlasting a nervy three-man playoff to clinch his maiden PGA Tour title at the Detroit Golf Club. His victory, sealed with an 18-foot birdie on the fifth playoff hole, marked him as the youngest South African ever to win on the Tour and one of the youngest winners globally in the past four decades. Fans in the UAE, where South African golfers like three-time Dubai Desert Classic Champion Ernie Els, two-time U.S. Open sensation Retief Goosen and 2011 Masters Champion Charl Schwartzel, have long been crowd favourites, will recognize Potgieter as a name to watch. And now, he's no longer just a big hitter with promise, but a history-maker. Potgieter, a youngster with an Afrikaans name, finished regulation tied at 22-under-par 266 alongside American duo Max Greyserman and Chris Kirk. While Kirk bowed out after a bogey on the second playoff hole, Potgieter and Greyserman continued to trade punches, pars and pressure before the South African struck the decisive putt on the par-3 15th. Patience Pays Off Late 'I struggled to get the pace right all day, left a lot of putts short,' Potgieter said, speaking like a man who knows he'll have many more Sundays under the spotlight. 'Finally got one to the hole.' It was a nerveless finish to a nervy round. Potgieter had opened the tournament with a blistering 62 on Thursday and held or shared the lead heading into Sunday. A closing 69 wasn't flawless, but it was enough to earn him a place in the playoff, and eventually the trophy. 'Big thanks to my family, friends, coaches, everyone who has been involved to get me to this point,' he said. 'It means the world.' For Greyserman, it was a familiar taste of disappointment. Ranked 48th in the world heading into the week, he played a bogey-free final round of 67 and had a 12-foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole to win outright, but couldn't convert. Close, But Not Enough 'I thought I hit a lot of good shots down the stretch. Very pleased with how I handled myself,' Greyserman said. 'But unfortunately, I didn't get the job done.' Chris Kirk, the third man in the playoff, came closest on the first extra hole with a 9-foot birdie chance that slid past. A three-putt bogey on the second extra hole ended his hopes. Potgieter's win doesn't just earn him a trophy, it has opened doors to bigger events, more sponsor attention, and invites to golf's top tables. It also continues a proud legacy of South African success on the PGA Tour, following in the footsteps of legends like Gary Player, Ernie Els, and Louis Oosthuizen.

Schwartzel, Bezuidenhout, Lawrence struggle at the Masters: Can they make the cut?

The three South Africans in the Masters field face a struggle to make the cut after poor first rounds and the expected windy condition in round two. Johannesburg-born Englishman Justin Rose is the clubhouse leader after shooting a magnificent seven-under-par 65 on Thursday to take the first-round lead, three strokes clear of defending champion Scottie Scheffler, Corey Conners and Ludvig Aberg. However, none of the South Africans could manage under-par rounds. Charl Schwartzel finished with a two-over-par 74, while Christiaan Bezuidenhout shot a four-over-par 76. Thriston Lawrence, who had a top 2024, had a nightmare first ever round at Augusta National when he came in with a seven-over-par 79. The projected cut is likely to be a round three- or four-over-par, which means that Schwartzel and Bezuidenhout, especially, will likely have to shoot under-par on Friday to make the cut.

SA star Charl Schwartzel eyes second Masters Green Jacket at Augusta: ‘I am feeling good about it'

Photo: AFP Image:/AFP Former Masters champion Charl Schwartzel will go into Thursday's first round at Augusta National full of confidence that he can repeat his winner's exploits of 2011. He will be one of three South Africans at golf's first major of the year, and the 40-year-old has set his sights on a second Green Jacket in 2025. After a strong performance in his last tournament at the LIV Golf Miami event, where he came second, Schwartzel feels a consistent performance could aid his challenge for a second win. Rory McIlroy reflects on what this week means. #themasters — The Masters (@TheMasters) April 8, 2025 For the first time in a couple of years, he arrived at Augusta with clarity on what lies ahead. 'I am feeling good about it, to be honest,' he said about his Masters chances. 'There were a lot of good signs for me at the beginning of this year. I've worked hard, I've gotten a lot fitter, and have lost a lot of kilogrammes. I am feeling good in general, so we will see. I am quite content. 'I am very privileged to play Augusta, and we'll keep it at that.' Schwartzel, who is grouped with Denny McCarthy of America and amateur Singaporean Hiroshi Tai, will tee off at 5.49pm (SA time) and will be the final South African in the field. Ahead of him, Christiaan Bezuidenhout (5.38pm) play alongside US duo Tom Hoge and Matt McCarty. Debutant Thriston Lawrence (5.10pm) will be the first SA player to grace the course alongside Spaniard José María Olazábal and Brian Campbell from the US. Schwartzel described Augusta as a second-shot golf course where you must be accurate with your irons. He says there's still a bit of leeway when you drive off the tee box, and those who do well on the course are good iron players. He remembers the 16th hole fondly, although No 12 and No 13, with the blooming azaleas, are the most beautiful holes on the course. 'The more you play the greens, the more you understand how to putt,' Schwartzel said. 'As opposed to someone who plays here for the first time, they struggle because there is so much more break in a normal putt. 'It doesn't get easier when you play there often, but you, in a way, get more used to the breaks on the greens (and how fast it runs). 'I could never forget 16 because of the year that I won (in 2011), the eruption that happened there when I made the putt... it always stands out. 'But I would say the most beautiful part is 12 and 13 with the azaleas, but 16 will always stand out for me.' Ludvig Åberg stormed onto the professional golf scene. In his second Masters, he plans to cement his place in the game. #themasters — The Masters (@TheMasters) April 8, 2025
