Ritavi police host Sports Against Crime near Tzaneen
LIMPOPO – The Ritavi police, in collaboration with the Provincial Social Crime Prevention Office, hosted a Sports Against Crime event at Charles Mathonsi High School's sports field near Tzaneen.
The initiative was supported by the Crime Prevention Forum (CPF), the departments of Education, Health, and Social Development, Sports, Arts and Culture, as well as the police's youth crime prevention units.
The event aimed to promote unity, healthy living, and social cohesion among learners from high schools in the Ritavi policing area, where issues like gangsterism, substance abuse, and bullying are common.
Participating schools included Charles Mathonsi, Magoza, Hudson Ntsanwisi, Bankuna, DZJ Mthebule, Zivuko, Matlharhi, Matimu, and Mpumulani.
The day featured a variety of sporting activities, including a 5km fun run, board games, aerobics, and matches in women's soccer, men's soccer, and netball.
During the event, acting station commander Lieutenant Colonel GT Maluleke delivered the keynote address, stressing the importance of collaboration among departments and stakeholders to ensure learner safety.
CPF chairperson Shingange Nicholas explained the purpose of the initiative, followed by messages of support from the Nkowankowa circuit manager and representatives from the Departments of Social Development and Sports, Arts and Culture.
In the sporting results, DZJ Mthebule High School won first place in netball, followed by Matimu and Charles Mathonsi. Zivuko High School claimed the top spot in women's soccer, with Charles Mathonsi in second. Matlharhi High School won the men's soccer tournament, with Magoza and Bankuna in second and third, respectively.
Winners in board games were also awarded medals across three categories: ludo, morabaraba, and chess. A friendly match between SAPS Ritavi and PGN Legends ended with PGN winning 2-1.
The event concluded with an address from Captain Ngobeni RJ, Vispol Commander, who thanked all departments, stakeholders, and community members for their efforts in making the event a success and supporting the fight against substance abuse, bullying, and gangsterism in schools.
