Scots food reviewer left 'depressed' after visiting 'one of worst rated' McDonald's

Charlie Roscoe regularly visits establishments in Edinburgh and shares the experience on social media. A popular food reviewer paid a visit to one of the lowest-rated McDonald's in Scotland, which he said left him "depressed". Edinburgh-based Charlie Roscoe has amassed 25,000 followers on TikTok after he began visiting unsuspecting local eateries in his quest to find hidden gems. ‌ He recently ventured out of the capital to Midlothian, to try what he claimed was the country's worst branch of McDonald's. The modern outlet at Hardengreen has a TripAdvisor rating of just 1.6. ‌ Its Google rating is three stars from almost 1,300 reviews. Located between Bonnyrigg and Dalkeith, it is situated opposite a Tesco supermarket and newly-built Greggs and Starbucks, Edinburgh Live reports. In his video, Charlie read out some of the negative reviews the restaurant has been hit with, including complaints about the presentation of burgers and claims they were selling mouldy chicken nuggets. Not expecting much when he entered, he said he was "unpleasantly" surprised after watching a staff member wiping down tables, adding that it was "sparkling" inside. He said: "First impressions - the 'worst McDonald's in the country' was looking in good shape. It is one of few fancy modern McDonald's. I placed my order on the fancy kiosk trying to buy items people say they get wrong. "I then took myself upstairs where everything was clean. I even saw someone wiping down the tables in the flesh. Shoutout to this guy because the place was absolutely sparkling. ‌ "I'm already unpleasantly surprised at how normal this maccies is. The place is spotless, it's clean. I wanted to sit down and have rats crawling all over me but let's wait and see what the food is like." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Charlie ordered a Big Mac meal, a Mayo Chicken and nine Chicken McNuggets and was immediately impressed with how warm the fries were and how well-presented his Big Mac was, which had previously attracted a slew of bad reviews. ‌ He admitted he expected 'a swarm of locusts' to fly out when he opened his Big Mac box, but again was surprised at how it looked and tasted overall. He continued: "I opened the nuggets next, expecting there to be one missing as a lot of people who left reviews said they forgot a nugget. But inside were nine, super crunchy, warm nuggies. "And by the way this McDonald's gave me a receipt and had working sauce dispensers, making it a lot better than most McDonald's I've been to. The Big Mac was next and I just straightened it up a little before eating instead of writing a huge review about it. "Honestly I was a bit depressed after this meal as I wanted it to be bad but honestly this was one of the better McDonald's I think I've ever been to. I think they must have upped their game after being announced as the worst in Scotland."

Edinburgh TikToker finds the 'best roll he has ever had' at unassuming takeaway

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info A TikToker has shared another of Edinburgh's hidden gems on his quest to find some of the best scran in the city. Charlie Roscoe believes he has found the best roll he's ever had in the city from an unassuming eatery in Granton after he received great food and service from the Waterfront Takeaway. The Edinburgh foodie wanted to share a takeaway that none of his followers would know, and decided that the Granton Square restaurant was the perfect one to highlight. Not only was he blown away by the "basic but bold" Lorne sausage and egg roll, he also praised the service he received. Reviewing his experience, Charlie said: "This thing smelled insane, something about the bread was genuinely opening my lungs up! Like, I could get addicted to this. "The bread was also warm which is a small touch but it makes all the difference. The egg, sauce and butter were good and sloppy while the sausage was steamy. "Rest assured, this is the best roll i've had in this city. I don't know how and I don't know why but something deep within just tells me so." He went on to proclaim the roll "perfect" giving it a rating of 10 out of 10. (Image: Google Maps) In the comments, fans of the unsuspecting establishment gushed over the food and service. One person said: "Best wee cafe with the best staff. Love this place." While another added: "This is one of my favs! The haggis is incredible there!" And a third said: "That's only the best roll in the world!"
