And Just Like That star admits to NEVER watching an episode of Sex and the City before audition

And Just Like That star Cathy Ang never watched an episode of Sex and the City before she was cast as Kristin Davis ' onscreen daughter Lily York Goldenblatt in 2021. Outraged, the 60-year-old Emmy nominee asked the 29-year-old NYU grad on her podcast Are You a Charlotte on Tuesday if she told her or the other executive producers about that at the time. 'Am I gonna make you cry already?' Cathy asked Kristin. 'I kind of grew up in a more conservative environment where, like, my parents would not have been comfortable with me watching the show, of course. I really wish my mom had watched this show. You know, there's so many things that I feel like, actually, I think my mom is a Charlotte, you know, and there's many ways where I feel like she could have found, like, more freedom in her life.' Ang continued: 'Anyway, it doesn't matter, but I didn't get to watch the show. And then watching the show, actually, after already being cast, I was like, "Holy guacamole!" But just like so kind of taken aback by the world that I was about to enter. And that probably would have freaked me out [at a younger age].' The Chinese-Filipino-American actress-singer previously told Cosmopolitan in 2021 that she actually first watched the movies Sex and the City (2008) and Sex and the City 2 (2010), and once she got the role she 'binged the show in like a week.' 'I think if I had watched it as a teen, I wouldn't have understood as many of the problems they ran into, because I was just a little bit unaware,' Cathy admitted. 'So I appreciated that I waited because it would have felt more foreign to me before, but now I could relate to these characters.' Davis told Ang that her self-taped audition during the COVID-19 pandemic was 'super brilliant' because of her prowess on the piano, which 'impressed' showrunner Michael Patrick King. The Iowa-born, Cali-raised brunette's character Lily should technically be 21 years old considering Charlotte and Harry (Evan Handler) adopted her as a baby in 2004 following the emotional Sex and the City series finale. The art dealer and divorce attorney's biological, non-binary child Rose aka 'Rock' (played by 15-year-old Alexa Swinton) should technically be 17 years older considering she was born in 2008 during the first SATC film. There are fan theories that the hot-tempered teen is secretly the franchise's villain considering she stole Carrie Bradshaw's (Sarah Jessica Parker) cell phone before she was stood up at the altar by Mr. Big (Chris Noth), who was desperately trying to call her. And Lily's piano recital in the And Just Like That series premiere kept Carrie from Big on the night he suffered a fatal heart attack on a Peloton bike at their lavish Manhattan apartment. 'The show has opened up like so many opportunities for me,' Cathy gushed. 'It was also strange that like I would ever be recognized. I went to a Bachelorette party in Texas and I gotta say I got recognized like three times down one street and it was really exciting to be a part of something that brings so many people joy.' Dating Fatigue Is Real, But Is Going Back To An Ex Okay?

Charlotte York, the ever-prim and proper fictional character from Sex and the City, is relatable for many reasons. She's poised, smart, beautiful, and chasing her prince charming in the chaos of a metro city like New York. And while New Delhi is no New York, dating in any city is tough-no matter how different the dating scene might be. So, after multiple failed first dates, when she had a mental breakdown and said, "I've been dating since I was fifteen. I am exhausted, where is he?", many people related to the character. In today's world, where finding a match is just a swipe away, dating can be tiring. You can get multiple matches, talking stages, and hundreds of "what's your favourite colour?" questions later, if you're still not able to find the person you want to spend the rest of your life with, it can get exhausting. We can all have breakdowns like Charlotte. Gen Z Too A 2024 data set shows that 79% of Gen Z faces dating app burnout. But if that's the case, should you take your phone out and dial that person from the trash can? I mean, your block list? Tempting, isn't it? If you're here, chances are that you might be thinking about it too. We all might have different answers to it. Some might say that the person is your ex for a reason, while others might not agree that much. So, if you too watched Materialists, and right before the ending you wondered if you should also call up your ex or hope to 'accidentally' bump into them (hopefully not Joe Goldberg from You style), you're not alone. Spoilers Ahead: When Lucy (played by Dakota Johnson) picked John (Chris Evans) in the end, many of us couldn't help but wonder - in a world where dating is becoming so hard and settling down seems to be what most people are doing, is it really time to consider whether you still have some leftover flames with your ex? Is there a right time to revisit old love? Or, more importantly, should you? 'The Microwave Love' Getting back with an ex isn't as rare as we'd like to think. Love, after all, has a strange pull-memories, comfort, familiarity. Sometimes, the past feels easier than the uncertain present. A four-year-old Reddit thread asked, "Has anyone gotten back with an ex-and how's it going?" The replies were a mix of happily-ever-afters and cautionary tales. Some rekindled romances ended in weddings, while others proved that not all stories deserve sequels. Let's have a look at some of them: Radhika Mohta, a matchmaker and relationship coach from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, says it is pretty human for people to want to go back to their ex. "This happens for various reasons, especially when people are on the verge of finding someone new, and they feel vulnerable-they end up running back to their exes," she adds. She also says that during events of happiness or sadness, like a birthday or New Year's, she has seen couples getting back together. Getting back with the ex is a phenomenon that's fairly common across all generations, but it is more often observed in younger generations in India-like Gen Z and millennials, especially Gen Z-who have a tendency to fall into microwave love: a reference to romantic relationships that heat up quickly and cool down just as fast. Unlike traditional relationships, these breakups aren't seen as a definitive ending but rather as part of a continuous cycle. Even though we don't have specific data for India, a study published in Medical News Today in 2023 shows that 60% of young adults in the US admitted to having at least one on-off relationship. When Can You Get Back With Your Ex? "The ex is the ex for a reason," Radhika says. According to her, getting back with an ex is usually a bad idea. However, one can consider it seriously if they believe that the person has truly changed and evolved for the better-and that the problems that caused the breakup are actually resolvable. She does believe that such changes are very rare, and humans, generally, don't change their nature drastically. "There's a very little chance that people change so much that the root cause of their breakups is resolved. However, there are chances that people might actually evolve-then you can think of getting back with your ex," she adds. Experts also suggest that if one of the main reasons for the breakup was timing or life circumstances-like getting a big promotion and not having time to dedicate to a relationship, or having to move far for work or study-and you're both now in a better position to prioritise your relationship, then it's okay to give your relationship another chance. Sometimes you meet the right person at the wrong time. And if both of you are now ready to work it through, seriously and honestly, there's a good chance it might work this time. On the flip side, if the breakup involved cheating, emotional abuse, or persistent disrespect, it's a major red flag. In such cases, you might want to reconsider your reconsideration. And, the best way to cut off a relationship? Actually cut it off. Block, delete, mute, disappear. Radhika says people often make timelines in their heads for relationships, like, "If he doesn't call me till my birthday, I'll move on." But when breakups happen, the only real way to move on is to cut people completely out of your life, as much as possible-otherwise, there's a strong chance you'll end up right back with your ex, according to Radhika. But Can We Just Be Friends? Well, we get it. Dating your ex again can be complicated, and in some cases, it's a road to a dead end. But is becoming friends a better idea? As self-destructive as it might sound, sometimes you have to be friends with your ex-maybe because you share a close friend group, have co-parenting responsibilities, or something else entirely. Whether that's a healthy idea or not depends on the situation, says Mumbai-based counselling psychologist Absy Sam. "As a psychologist, I believe it's possible, but only under specific conditions. Both parties must be free of romantic or sexual tension and have no lingering hope of rekindling the relationship. Mutual respect for each other's boundaries is essential," she says. However, she adds that maintaining a friendship can be problematic if it's just a facade to hold on to the past or avoid grieving the end of the relationship. In collectivistic societies, she says, such friendships may also invite societal judgement or gossip, adding further complications. How To Be Friends With An Ex According to experts, like Absy, if both parties genuinely want to maintain a friendship, here's how to try it: Examine your motives: Reflect on why you want to stay friends. Is it a genuine friendship, or are you avoiding letting go? Avoid "friends with benefits" or vague emotional attachments with unspoken expectations. Set clear boundarie s: Define what is and isn't acceptable in the friendship. Respect each other's space and autonomy to keep it healthy. Accept that it may not work: Not every ex is meant to stay in your life as a friend-and that's okay. Some relationships are better left in the past. Grieving and moving on may be more healing than forcing a friendship. So, the next time you think about texting your ex at 1 am while three glasses of wine down - maybe just write it in Notes instead. Or better yet, rewatch Sex and the City and let Charlotte and her friends speak your truth.

Sex And The City fans spot another Easter egg in And Just Like That... season three premiere as familiar face returns - but did you recognise them?

Sex And The City fans have spotted yet another Easter Egg as the show returned for it's third season, in what fans have claimed is finally now living up to the original. Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte York Goldenblatt (Kristin Davis) were back on fine form as they explored their tangled lives in New York City. The latest drama saw Charlotte struggle with her pet pooch Richard Burton after he accused of attacking an elderly lady's Chihuahua in Central Park. Taking to Instagram one eagle eyed face spotted that the actress playing the woman also appeared in the 2008 Sex And The City movie. In her previous role she was once again clasping a dog to play an animal rights activist and screamed murderer at Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) who was doused in red paint for wearing fur. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the Daily Mail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Taking to Instagram they wrote: 'Only the most deranged Sex and the City fans realised that the architect of Richard Burton's cancellation is the same woman who screamed "murder" at Samantha in the first Sex and the City film'. Cattrall, 68 infamously did not return for the spin-off amid a feud with co-star Parker, before reprising her iconic role for a one off shock cameo last season. It was explained in the series premiere that Samantha had moved to London, with the Season 1 premiere finding Carrie reaching out to Samantha via text, making plans to meet in person and reconcile. Cattrall had previously refused to ever reprise her fan-favourite role as the man-hungry publicist - having last played the character in much derided 2010 film, Sex and the City 2. Even SJP has claimed she does not want Kim back - when asked by Variety in a 2022 interview if she would be 'OK' if Cattrall was able to come back to the show if some 'miracle were to happen,' after their very public feud exploded back in 2018. The season opener, titled Outlook Good, also saw Carrie navigate her long-distance relationship with Aidan Shaw (John Corbett), and Miranda enjoy a dalliance with a virgin nun Mary (Rosie O'Donnell). Yet there was a sense of familiarity for SATC fans as the episode featured several references to the original season. Taking to X/ Twitter during the show, viewers were quick to make comparisons to the iconic Nineties series - so how many did you spot? Taking to Instagram one eagle eyed face spotted that the actress playing the woman (L) also appeared in the 2008 Sex And The City movie (R) Are postcards the new post its? The episode opened with Carrie lovingly making out a postcard for Aidan - who is staying in Virginia while he sorts through his family problems. Yet while she gazes down adoringly at the card, she doesn't write a word, instead just drawing a large heart. It's later explained in the episode that it's a private joke between the couple, with Carrie sending postcards of New York signed with a heart, while Aidan sends blank ones from Virginia. Yet the impersonal message brought back memories of Carrie's dealings with Jack Berger, who famously walked out on her in the middle of the night, dumping her via a Post-it note that read: 'I'm sorry. I can't. Don't hate me.' The episode opened with Carrie lovingly making out a postcard for Aidan - who is staying in Virginia while he sorts through his family problems. The two hit it off at a bar, with Mary proceeding to flirt with Miranda, telling her, 'You are so pretty' before brazenly letting her know that she has a 'hotel room.' However, the morning after their passionate night, Mary revealed that until then she had been a virgin, the reason being, she was also a nun. Fans noticed the episode harked back to season three, when Miranda discovered her new housekeeper Magda (Lynn Cohen) had replaced her sex toy with a statue of the Virgin Mary in her room. It's also not the first time a religious figure has been lusted over. In the season four opener, Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) famously fancied an attractive monk, branding him: 'Friar F**k' and attempting to seduce him. She wasted no time calling Miranda for help, admitting: 'I've fallen and I can't get up.' Fans noticed how the moment was a rework of season four when Miranda throws her neck out and gets stuck in her shower. She called Carrie for assistance, but Carrie instead sent Aiden in her place, resulting in him having to scoop a naked Miranda off her bathroom floor. While watching And Just Like That... a viewer noted: 'Carrie immediately calling Miranda post-fall is very ironic. 'And she gets kudos for actually showing up for her, although Carrie didn't do the same for her back in the day. #AndJustLikeThat'. While she has changed apartments since the original series, the scene was still an iconic throwback to all the shots of her typing away through the window of her rent-controlled brownstone. Fans rejoiced at the scene, writing on X: 'the episode ending with carrie writing on her laptop looking out her window im sorry but we're soooo back #AndJustLikeThat'. Carrie herself let go of the 'expectations,' particularly concerning her rekindled romance with Aidan, who put their relationship on an unexpected five-year pause and explained he needed to focus on raising his son, Wyatt. The latest episode starts out with Carrie sending Aiden a postcard to Virginia, with just a heart scribbled on it. Afterwards, she meets with Miranda and Charlotte at a bar. She tells them that Aiden wanted no communication while he handles family issues back home, but that they've been sending each other post cards. Miranda asks Carrie if she's sending him postcards to 'remind him you're getting old in New York.' Carrie explains she is simply trying to 'let him know I'm here, I love him.' Carrie then reminds her girlfriends that she has a busy life away from Aiden, explaining, 'I'm a big girl in a big city with a big house to furnish. I've got plenty to do up here while he figures stuff out down there.' The latest episode starts out with Carrie meeting with Miranda and Charlotte at a bar Later, in the middle of the night, Carrie gets a call from Aiden. He tells her he misses her and that he's sitting in the back of the house in his truck drinking beer Carrie and Charlotte then leave Miranda, as they think she is being hit on by another woman. However, when Miranda approaches her, she introduces herself as Miranda's son Brady's former babysitter, Cassandra Walsh. Miranda then awkwardly tells her about her divorce from her ex Steve Brady (David Eigenberg). Nicole Ari Parker and Sarita Choudhury returned as the group's new besties Lisa and Seema. Seema has an accident after lighting up a cigarette in bed, causing the mattress and her hair to light on fire, with a fireman later chastising her for smoking in bed. Carrie and Seema are then seen strolling through a park, with Carrie rocking a giant eye-catching hat on her head. Later on Carrie returns home and proceeds to slip and fall while running to turn off her house alarm. Miranda comes over to help her, and reveals her sexual encounter with Mary. Seema later breaks up with boyfriend Ravi Gordy, after feeling ignored by him They then proceed to have phone sex, but it's interrupted when he accidentally honks the horn with his knee. Aiden then proceeds to go on but Carrie can't, after noticing her cat watching her. However she continues to fake it, before later telling her girlfriends that she feels 'dishonest' about it. Meanwhile Seema breaks up with boyfriend Ravi Gordy, after feeling ignored by him. The scene then switched to Miranda, who tells Carrie that the nun is 'in love' with her, and continues to text her trying to meet up. Miranda says she feels 'mean' for not texting back, but eventually goes to meet Mary in Times Square. Mary then invites Miranda to 'spend the night.' Miranda tries to get out it, as Mary proceeds to sing a verse from Wicked to her. Carrie calls Aiden later in the night, and tells her she faked their phone sex the night prior. She then attempts to start it up again, but he tells her his son is sleeping next to him. Embarrassed, she awkwardly apologizes and hangs up. There will be 12 episodes in And Just Like That… season 3, with the last on August 14 Unable to go to sleep after he house alarm goes off again, Carrie gets up and opens her laptop, beginning to write. 'The woman wondered what she had gotten herself into,' Carrie wrote, before the episode came to an end. The show picks up 11 years after the events of the 2010 film Sex and the City 2, and follows three of the four original main characters. Following the success of Kim Cattrall 's cameo in the second season, it's been widely reported Samantha will return for at least part of the third season. Sara Ramirez will not be returning as controversial non-binary comedian Che Diaz (there's some disagreement as to whether this was because of their political posts, because of the end of the character's relationship with Miranda, or because viewers just found them so annoying). Karen Pittman also won't return as Columbia law professor Nya Wallace because of scheduling conflicts. Meanwhile The OC's Logan Marshall-Green and the one and only Patti LuPone will all make appearances in the new series. The original Sex and the City ran for six seasons, airing on HBO from 1998 until 2004; Cynthia, Kristin, Sarah and Kim pictured in a promotional photo from 1999 Since starting in December 2021, the Sex And The City spin-off has seen Carrie, Samantha and Charlotte grapple with sexuality, gender identity, death, grief, divorce, drug use, and pretty much every other hot issue in Western society. The original Sex and the City ran for six seasons, airing on HBO from 1998 until 2004. The story continued with two feature films: Sex and the City (2008) and Sex and the City 2 (2010). The first season of And Just Like That... premiered in 2021. There will be 12 episodes in And Just Like That… season 3, with the last premiering on August 14. The season 3 premiere comes after Sarah revealed Mr. Big's death on the show was 'really hard' for her to film. The actress addressed the shocking moment in the show where Carrie's husband Mr. Big (Chris Noth) died of a heart attack after working out on his Pelaton bike. Mr. Big had been a staple character of Sex And The City and Carrie's main love interest so it was a risk for writers to kill him off. Speaking on The E! News Sitdown with Bruce Bozzi, Sarah gave her thoughts on the storyline. She said: 'Big dying was really, really hard to do both professionally and personally. That's not just a thread. It's one of the main arteries that you would struggle to do without.' 'It was really sad to say goodbye to that. It's not like I needed it for my own health or wellbeing. But that was a hugely wonderful story to tell for a lot of years.' Since Big's death, Carrie has rekindled her romance with old flame Aidan, who she was involved with in seasons three and four of Sex And The City.

And Just Like That there is a second Swinton on the scene with young Alexa storming the screen

The young cousin of Oscar-winning star Tilda Swinton is making a return to the small screen this week in the third season of the spin-off from US drama Sex and the City. Alexa Swinton bagged the role as the daughter of Charlotte York, played by Kristin Davis, and joined the HBO Max show And Just Like That as a 12-year-old in 2021. New York-born Alexa has Canadian, Scottish and Russian-Jewish heritage and is a distant cousin of Scots actress Tilda, known for her multiple roles including the White Witch in The Chronicles of Narnia. Despite her young age, 15-year-old Alexa has been active in the film scene for more than a decade – she made her first appearance as a three-year-old in the operatic, experimental movie River of Fundament. In the original Sex and the City series, Charlotte York had two daughters, Lily and Rose, with Alexa cast as the latter when the spin-off first hit the screens four years ago. In the latest instalment, her role has evolved into playing the part of a nonbinary teen, Rock. Last year, as she and her onscreen mother filmed in New York, Ms Davis posted a snap, captioned: 'A family affair #andjustlikethat.' The series has also seen the return of Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw and Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes.

Is Trey coming back? Sex and the City star Kristin Davis hints her character Charlotte could be 'running into' her ex-husband on And Just Like That

Kristin Davis has revealed that there's a possibility that one of Sex and the City's most beloved ex-husbands could be making a comeback. The 60-year-old was quizzed on what characters she'd like to see appear on the spin off of the iconic 1990s and noughties series, And Just Like That, by Stellar Magazine this week. The actress was quick to name Kyle MacLachlan, who played Trey MacDougal, the husband - and later ex-husband - of her character, Charlotte York. MacLachlan, 66, appeared on Sex And The City between 2000 and 2002. 'I feel like there could be many scenarios where [Trey's return] could work' Kristin explained. 'I feel like in New York, you do run into people from your past pretty frequently.' She added: 'It would totally make sense that Trey and Charlotte would be at the same events or at the same restaurants. 'I don't know if that would be enough for them to explore their relationship but it would be fun to do it, if we could'. Trey and Charlotte had an unhappy marriage, leading to a tense divorce - but through that process, Charlotte met her soulmate, lawyer Harry Goldenblatt, played by Evan Handler, who became her second husband. Handler continues to appear in the spin off And Just Like That as well as starring in both Sex And The City films. The is however one storyline from Sex and the City that Kristen couldn't stand - and even tried to get out of filming it. Davis recalled the plotline during a recent episode of her podcast Are You a Charlotte? She explained that during the sixth season of the show, the script called for York and her on screen husband Handler to come down with a bout of bad food poisoning. The pair were supposed to be out at a fancy dinner, enjoying dishes like French cheese, only for the both of them to then get hit with food poisoning and end up on the toilet. 'I just hated that storyline so much,' Davis admitted on the podcast. Davis disliked it so much that she even went to the episode's writers, Elisa Zuritsky and Julia Rottenberg, and questioned why they had to do this. 'They were like, "It's so funny"' Davis remembered. 'I think it was based on a story where someone went to France and had a similar experience with their decadent cheeses, which we're not used to here,' she continued. 'I didn't like that. I didn't want to lay on the floor of the bathroom with Evan in stained T-shirts. Ick.' However, the two ended up acting out the scene, and it made the cut on the 14th episode of season six. Sex and The City ended that season in 2004, but was revived in 2021 as the ladies returned for a spinoff, called And Just Like That, about life in their 50s. The spinoff stars Sarah Jessica Parker Parker as Carrie Bradshaw, Kristin Davis as Charlotte York, and Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes. Samantha Jones, who was played by Kim Cattrall in the original series, did not participate in the revival. However, it looks like there will be some new characters for fans to look forward to meeting this year, as And Just Like That is set to premiere its third season on HBO sometime this year. During an on-stage talk at the Red Sea Film Festival in Saudi Arabia late last year, Parker teased some new additions to the cast. 'There is growth with new faces,' Parker said, per Variety. 'Carrie has a wonderful storyline,' she continued. 'The story takes some big swings and we fold some big ideas into those big swings. Some of the male characters are back, and there are some new men.' She also shared that the third season took over seven months to shoot and involved 'crazy long hours.' 'It feels really big, really robust and exciting,' Parker shared.
