Thailand should join CPTPP pact, says CP Group senior chairman

(Photo by Yuji Murakami) KENYA AKAMA TOKYO -- As the U.S. government's tariff policy shakes the global trading system, Thailand should join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) to benefit from cooperation with other economies, the senior chairman of one of Southeast Asia's biggest conglomerates said. "Thailand should immediately join it. There is no reason not to join," Dhanin Chearavanont of Thailand's Charoen Pokphand (CP) Group told Nikkei Asia in an exclusive interview in late May.

Seven & i founding family seeks investment from Thailand's Charoen Pokphand in MBO, NHK says
TOKYO (Reuters) - The founding family of Seven & i is asking Thailand's Charoen Pokphand (CP) Group to invest in a managed buyout of the Japanese retailing giant, NHK reported on Thursday. The founding family is in talks to take Seven & i private through a management buyout to fend off a $47 billion takeover from Canada's Alimentation Couche-Tard. The investment would be in the order of hundreds of billions of yen, Japan's national broadcaster said. Seven & i declined to comment on the report. A representative for CP Group said they do not comment on speculation.
