Anne Hegerty reveals pay details for ITV's The Chase with Mark Labbett
The Chase star Anne Hegerty, also known as The Governess, has opened up about how much the popular chasers are paid and why she doesn't want a new one to join the team. Anne Hegerty has shed light on the payment structure for the Chasers on the hit quiz show, explaining that there's no fixed salary involved and their earnings are not guaranteed. Speaking to the Mirror at the TV Choice Awards last week, Anne, who boasts an estimated net worth of £3.2 million, shared that she and her fellow Chasers aren't too keen on the idea of a new addition to their group in the near future. The reason being that they're paid per episode, which means a new Chaser would mean the existing budget would have to be spread even thinner. The I'm A Celebrity star went into detail: "We are paid per show, so we're not on a salary. It's not as if they're going to up the budget and add a new salary, a new chaser would just mean the same number of shows shared between more people - so less money for everyone. So, hope not!" Despite the risk of decreased income with the arrival of a new Chaser, Anne expressed no ill feelings towards Darragh Ennis, who joined the team in 2020, ten years after Anne first appeared. "You know, Darragh has been a very good new addition, he's very popular, and that's worthwhile," she said. Anne also opened up about her off-screen camaraderie with her fellow quizzing giants. Despite their competitive nature during the show, Anne confirmed that they get along well behind the scenes, reports Bristol Live. She added: "We know each other, and certainly on Beat the Chasers we tend to hang out a lot, because we're all there at the same time," revealing the friendly dynamics among the cast. Despite not earning a regular wage from her appearances on The Chase, the financial triumph of her company, Frosty Knickers Ltd, is evident, with reports in August 2023 revealing a hefty £807,000 sitting in the bank. Yet Anne is not one to frivolously spend her earnings. In a discussion about her expenditure habits last year, she quipped: "I'm half Scottish. We don't spend money and, being a fat person, I can only buy from certain places." She added humorously. "I like my money sitting in my bank and representing a bit of security. I don't see the point in sloshing money around. I'm not frugal, I'd actually say I'm mean." Before finding fame on television, Anne faced challenging times as a journalist, recounting how she was "getting more and more swamped by admin and losing more work". Nevertheless, this thrifty individual does indulge in some luxuries, opting for first class and business flights, and allowing herself the pleasures of 'Club Med' during her travels.

ITV The Chase fans call for show to make major change after rival show axed
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info The Chase fans have voiced their concerns on social media after the Spanish version of the beloved quiz show faced cancellation earlier this year, raising fears for the UK version. Launched in 2009 with Bradley Walsh at the helm, The Chase has been a popular staple of the mid-evening schedule for over a decade and a half. Following the axing of the Spanish equivalent, El Cazador, which ended its run in April 2025 due to declining viewer numbers, devotees are proposing that the British series could benefit from an overhaul in certain areas. One Reddit user suggested: "The show isn't as fresh as it used to be and could do with them trying out new things to freshen up the formula." However, a die-hard fan countered: "I disagree. The format is good as is. Spain tried changing the format last year and now the show is being cancelled. (Image: ITV) "Australia also changed some things this year which I believe made the show worse and more complicated than it needs to be." The suggestion from viewers to revive interest include a revamp of the final chase round. One commentator argued that the current buzzer system hampers contestants, mentioning: "The guests having to press their buzzers and wait for their name, when the Chaser does not. That's like a solid 10-15 seconds bonus", reports the Express. One fan recently shared their perspective on taking part, commenting: "I fully agree - I still want to go on and give it a go. That's why winning money isn't the satisfying part, it's more about winning against some of the best at [memorising] facts." (Image: Getty) Another viewer suggested a format change to exclude asking teammates for advice on deal offers, saying: "The 'ask your team mates' part is laughably pointless. "For one, it has no influence on what the person is going to choose. Secondly, they all say the exact same thing. 'You could definitely do the higher offer, but stick with the middle and come home.'". Despite these criticisms, the hit quiz show remains a firm favourite among UK audiences. The most recent series, broadcast from January to March, boasted an impressive 3 million viewers, securing a 29.7% share of the audience and ranking as ITV1's third most popular game show of 2024 and leading the pack for shows not in primetime. Over in Australia, The Chase continues its reign, holding firm as Seven Network's top game show every week throughout 2024, marking a successful continuation of a five-year run at number one. However, soon they found themselves clawing it back thanks to a combination of wrong answers from Wallace and correct pushbacks, giving them the upper hand. In the dying seconds of the game, Shaun was asked: "Which ex formula one driver is a multiple Paralympic champion?" The Chaser didn't know, and then Rachel gave the incorrect answer as David Weir. The win meant Eden took home £75,000 – the single highest win on a daytime gameshow ever for a solo player. As Bradley Walsh congratulated him, Eden joked: "That's alright, innit!" with Darragh saying it was "brilliantly played". Eden said he was just going to "look at it in his bank account" rather than do anything with it. 7 Joe won the biggest single amount in a head-to-head, only to lose it moments later Credit: ITV 5. Biggest Head-to-Head Win - £201,000 Strictly star and YouTuber Joe Sugg made show history in 2023 when he managed to bag a In his head-to-head round against Paul Sinha, Joe took a massive gamble by going for the higher prize. It all came down to a one question shoot out which was: "Which of a hedgehog's senses is very poor?" The options were sight, hearing, smell. Joe managed to get the answer right, with Bradley hugging Joe at his impressive feat. But in a devastating blow, he later lost it in the final chase when Paul ultimately caught up to the team's score of 18 after a minor mistake. When asked who starred in Stepbrothers, Joe and his celebrity team-mates answered Will Ferrell - but mispronounced his name as Will Farrell, which Bradley could not accept. The team were instead awarded £1,000 each for their chosen charities. 7 6. Biggest group take down - £116,000 It's rare that all four contestants make it to the final chase, so Jenny 'The Vixen' Ryan had her work cut out from her at the start. In this celebrity special, Tony Maudsley, Bryony Page, Kerry Godilman and Alexander Armstrong all made it through to the last round, with £116,000 in their prize pot for charity. Racking up an impressive 23 points for The Vixen to beat, Jenny gave it her all but found herself suffering pushbacks when she got questions wrong. In the final moments, she was asked: "What was the full name of the first Duke of Wellington?" The Vixen knew her history, but it wasn't enough to catch the players. Maybe it was the Christmas spirit, but the team managed to take home the win – and more importantly £116,000 (29,000 each) for good causes, mainly children's charities. Rather than be annoyed, Jenny looked tearfully proud at the group for their achievement. The answers! Owner Tries To Teach German Shepherd Puppy the Word 'No'—Doesn't Go To Plan
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A German shepherd puppy named Milo has captured hearts on social media, after a video of him categorically refusing to learn the word "no" went viral. The hilarious clip, shared on TikTok on Wednesday, under the username @ shows Milo's owner attempting to teach him the meaning of the word "no," unsuccessfully. "The game continues, I definitely think I'm winning," reads the caption, as the owner keeps saying "no" to the puppy, even pointing his finger at him. However, the young canine refuses to learn the new command, and instead responds by pawing his owner and playfully nibbling on his hand. While the stubborn puppy just flat out refuses to learn the new word, most dogs can actually understand between 15 and 200 words, with a well-trained dog recognizing about 165 words, just like a 2-year old toddler. Moreover, the experts at VCA Animal Hospitals say that dogs don't just react to sounds; they actually associate words with objects, actions and outcomes. With the right training, canines can learn even more words. Military and police dogs often learn over 250 words, crucial for their job. Some incredibly intelligent breeds, such as Border collies, German shepherds and poodles, are known for regularly hitting 1,000-word milestones. A Border collie named Chaser holds the record for knowing the most words a dog has ever been able to learn. After three years of intense training, Chaser learned about 1,022 words. The most-popular words that dogs can learn include cues such as "off," "fetch," "shake," and "go get your …"; items such as "collar," "ball," "crate," and "vacuum"; and people, including the vet, neighbors, friends, and family members. Canines can also learn "peanut butter," "carrot," "dinner," "treat," and other foods; as well as a variety of other phrases classified as games, such as "I love you," "thank you," and "what a sweetie." One user, Cardocrap, commented: "Tbh [to be honest] if someone waved their finger in my face I wouldn't like it either." Another user, Shay, added: "The chomps! maybe you should try yes." The Chase's Shaun Wallace makes cheeky confession about co-star Bradley Walsh
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Shaun Wallace shared a hilarious spin on what he thinks of his "mad" fellow co-star Bradley Walsh. The Chase, which first aired on ITV back in 2009, has been a huge hit among many viewers across the UK. Shaun first hit TV screens in 2004 when he appeared and won Mastermind before establishing himself as one of the Chasers. Now having worked with presenter Bradley on the show for many years, he poked fun at his co-star in a light-hearted video online. He can be seen standing among trees in a wooded area while wearing a neon lime green top and jeans. He told his 98,100 followers: "There's no great genius without some touch of madness. Now, some people may say Bradley Walsh is a genius - I just think he's mad.' He then gave the camera a thumbs up and added: 'Cheers, Brad.' In the caption accompanying the clip, Shaun penned: 'Let's face it, Brad's no genius apart from at corpsing." Corpsing is a common term in film, television and theatre and is used to describe the moment an actor breaks character by laughing. The term is believed to have originated and become popular as a result of actors who kept laughing while their character was supposed to be a corpse. Bradley is famous for erupting into fits of laughter at certain questions on The Chase, typically delighting the contestants and even the usually composed Chasers, as well as viewers at home. Shaun's video racked up hundreds of likes, with many fans wishing him well in the comments section. The Chase is a popular quiz show which is known and loved up and down the country. It first hit screens in June 2009, with both Bradley and Shaun appearing in the first ever episode. It's quite a simple premise which sees a team of strangers work together in a bid to build a lucrative cash jackpot. Each contestant first has to tackle a solo cash builder round where host Bradley asks them a string of rapid general knowledge questions. Each correct answer results in £1,000 being added to their potential jackpot fund. After this, they then face one of the eponymous Chasers - each one a quizzing expert - in a head-to-head. This round sees them playing to keep the sum they earned in their cash builder round, or accepting one of the Chaser's offers of a much higher cash prize - at a cost of having to answer another question - or slashing their money by accepting a lower offer, which results in one less question to answer. All players who are successful against the Chaser in their head-to-head make it to the 'Final Chase', where they can work together to try and answer as many questions correctly in just two minutes to try and win the accumulated prize fund. This round is similar to the cash builder, only this time, each correct answer adds to the number of questions the Chaser must answer in the same amount of time. For example, if a team answers 20 questions correctly in their allotted time, the Chaser has 20 questions to answer successfully to prevent them taking home the money.
