Upgraded road and flyover inaugurated in Namakkal district
The Malliyakarai – Rasipuram – Tiruchengode – Erode Road, upgraded into a four-lane highway along with a two-lane elevated flyover at Pallipalayam, at a total cost of ₹424.38 crore, was inaugurated by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin through video conference on Thursday.
The road, designated as State Highway 79, is part of the Chennai–Kanyakumari Industrial Corridor Project and was implemented with financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank. The stretch has been upgraded into a four-lane highway, while a 3.40-km two-lane elevated flyover has been constructed to ease traffic congestion in Pallipalayam town along the same route.
Participating in the function, Minister for Adi Dravidar Welfare M. Mathiventhan said the upgraded infrastructure was expected to significantly benefit students commuting to schools and colleges in Namakkal district, provide a vital link between Namakkal and Erode districts, support industrial development in the region, and improve connectivity to nearby urban areas. To enhance road safety, street lights and surveillance cameras had been installed. Additionally, the project included a seven-year performance-based maintenance contract, he added.
At a function held in Pallipalayam, District Collector S. Uma, Erode MP K.E. Prakash, Namakkal MP V.S. Matheswaran, and officials were present.
