Amazon Prime Day breaks records with 18,000 orders per minute in India

Amazon's latest Prime Day sale event broke records with over 18,000 orders per minute—a 50 per cent jump from 2024. Seventy per cent of new memberships came from smaller Indian cities. The e-commerce giant delivered thousands of items within four hours in major metros, with same-day delivery doubling year-over-year and two-day delivery to smaller cities rising by 80 per cent. 'Prime members purchased more items than any previous Prime Day shopping event, while we created new records on speed with the highest number of same-day deliveries,' said Akshay Sahi, Head of Amazon Prime, Delivery, and Returns Experiences, India and Emerging Markets. 'Thanks to our recent investment of ₹2,000 crore in the well-being of our associates and the scaling up of our operations, we were able to deliver even faster and safer this year.' Prime members shopped from thousands of new products launched by over 400 Indian and global brands, including Intel, Samsung, OnePlus, Bajaj, HP, BoAt, Puma, and Adidas. Purchases spanned smartphones, TVs, appliances, fashion, groceries, and home essentials. Compared to last year's Prime Day, smartphones saw high double-digit growth as Indians upgraded to flagship devices, driving up average selling prices across all city tiers. AI-enabled laptops, premium tablets, and health-focused wearables emerged as customer favourites, while premium audio segments achieved strong double-digit growth in Tier 2 cities. The home, kitchen, and outdoor category delivered its biggest Prime Day ever with 1.2X growth, supported by over 80 marquee brand launches. Fitness equipment sales surged 1.5X, with treadmill sales doubling, while furniture saw explosive growth with chairs and recliners achieving 10X increases. 'We also had a blockbuster Prime Day launch with our water purifiers, and it was a massive success,' said Arindam Paul, Founding Member and Chief Business Officer at Atomberg. Two-wheeler sales grew 1.9X across more than 500 cities, highlighting the expanding reach of online vehicle purchases beyond major metros. Eric Vas, President (Urbanite Business) at Bajaj Auto Ltd, said the company's latest offering, Chetak 3001, received an overwhelming response, becoming the No.1 best-selling electric scooter during Prime Day 2025. Beauty categories experienced exceptional growth, with skincare and colour cosmetics seeing 2X increases. Professional beauty services witnessed up to 3X growth, while Korean beauty brands saw up to 7X growth. Health-focused products gained momentum with whey protein sales increasing by over 80 per cent and coffee consumption growing 1.3X nationally, outpacing tea and growing 2X in Tier 2 cities. Shashi Kumar, the Chief Executive of Akshayakalpa Organic, reported significant gains, noting the company saw a remarkable 50 per cent growth in sales during Prime Day. Financing Fuels Premium Shift This surge reflects a broader trend where Amazon's financing options and exclusive content are enabling smaller Indian cities to drive premium consumption. For instance, 1 out of 4 spends this Prime Day were on EMI (equated monthly instalment), and 9 out of 10 EMI purchases were driven by No Cost EMI. The Premium Smartphone segment (priced higher than ₹30,000) witnessed over 60 per cent growth in value. Nearly 70 per cent of this growth came from Tier 2 and beyond cities. Amazon Fresh recorded its highest order volumes, with Tier 2+ cities leading 90 per cent growth, while daily essentials saw over 70 per cent of new customers coming from Tier 2 and 3 cities. This demonstrates Prime Day's expanding geographic reach. The Tier-2/3 city boom extended beyond consumers to sellers, with small and medium businesses seeing record participation. Notably, 68 per cent of these sellers were based in Tier 2 and 3 cities and beyond, while Amazon Business witnessed a 3X spike in new customer registrations during Prime Day, with 7X growth in Prime sign-ups.

Suzuki e Access vs Bajaj Chetak 3001: Which electric scooter should you buy?

The Indian electric two-wheeler market is buzzing with activity, and the latest addition to the space is the Bajaj Chetak 3001. Priced at ₹ 99,990 (ex-showroom), the Chetak 3001 is now the most affordable variant in the Chetak lineup. Designed specifically for cost-conscious urban commuters, this model balances functionality and affordability while maintaining the brand's signature retro-modern appeal. Meanwhile, Suzuki Motorcycle India is preparing to enter the electric mobility space with the upcoming Suzuki e Access. Although the scooter is yet to be launched officially, it has already sparked interest among enthusiasts and EV buyers. Once introduced, it will go up against well-established electric scooters like the Honda Activa e:, Ola S1 X+, and notably, the newly launched Chetak 3001. When it comes to pricing, the Bajaj Chetak 3001 holds a significant advantage. With its sub- ₹ 1 lakh price tag, it undercuts most of its direct rivals. In contrast, while Suzuki hasn't announced the final price of the e Access, industry insiders estimate it to fall between ₹ 1.10 lakh to ₹ 1.25 lakh (ex-showroom). If priced on the higher end, Suzuki may find it difficult to woo budget-conscious customers already drawn to Bajaj's more accessible offering. Under the hood, the Bajaj Chetak 3001 is powered by a 3 kWh battery, offering a claimed range of 127 km and a top speed of 63 kmph. It charges from 0 to 80% in about 3 hours and 50 minutes using a standard 750W charger, although it lacks fast-charging capabilities. The Suzuki e Access, while also featuring a 3 kWh battery, delivers a shorter range of 95 km. This is due to its less energy-dense LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery cells, which prioritize safety and longevity over range. However, the e Access compensates with fast charging support, enabling a full charge in 2 hours and 45 minutes, while a standard charge takes approximately 6 hours and 42 minutes. Additionally, it edges out the Chetak 3001 slightly in terms of top speed, clocking in at 71 kmph. The Bajaj Chetak 3001 appears to be a smart choice for riders seeking affordability and reliable range without the need for fast charging. On the other hand, the Suzuki e Access, though more expensive, brings in faster charging and a higher top speed — appealing to those prioritizing performance and charging convenience. Ultimately, both scooters serve different customer needs, and the final choice will depend on individual preferences, commute patterns, and budget considerations. As competition heats up in the EV segment, Indian buyers are the real winners with more choices and better tech on offer.

Bajaj Chetak 3001 vs rivals: Can it beat TVS iQube, Vida V2 Plus, Ather Rizta

The Bajaj Chetak 3001 has been recently introduced as a lower-cost version of the popular electric scooter. Starting at ₹99,990, ex-showroom, the model becomes the new starting point in the Chetak range and will find favor with budget-conscious urban buyers. With its launch, Bajaj is taking on better-established brands like TVS, Ather, Vida, Honda and soon-to-be-launched Japanese player the Suzuki e-Access in an extremely competitive segment. Here's a comparison of how the Chetak 3001 stacks up against competition in terms of battery capacity, range, charging time, features, and price. ₹ 1.1 - 1.49 Lakhs Offers Expiring soon ₹ 94,434 - 1.59 Lakhs Offers Expiring soon ₹ 74,000 - 1.2 Lakhs Offers Expiring soon ₹ 99,990 - 1.46 Lakhs Offers Expiring soon ₹ 1.49 - 1.79 Lakhs Offers Expiring soon ₹ 1.7 - 1.74 Lakhs Offers Expiring soon The Bajaj Chetak 3001 is equipped with a 3kWh battery pack, placing it between the base 2.2kWh model of the TVS iQube and the bigger 3.5kWh models. It has a claimed IDC range of 127 km, just behind the Ather Rizta S's 123km-claimed range for its 2.9 kWh battery pack and ahead of the Vida V2 Plus with 143km and TVS iQube 3.5 with 145 km claimed range. Against the next Suzuki e-Access, which boasts a 3kWh battery but provides just 95km of range using lower energy-density LFP cells, the Chetak comes out better. The Honda QC1, with its minuscule 1.5kWh battery and 80km claimed range, languishes far behind, although at a lower cost. The Chetak 3001 was equipped with a 750W charger, which allows it to charge from 0–80 per cent in 3 hours and 50 minutes. It may not be fast-charge capable, but its charge time is faster than most of the entry-level options. For example, the Ather Rizta S, which is positioned higher, takes 6 hours and 30 minutes to hit 80 per cent charge with its standard charger. However, both the Ather and Vida models use the Ather Grid to make fast-charge compatible, which is fantastic for quick top-ups when commuting is urgent. The TVS iQube 2.2kWh has the fastest standard charge time at 2 hours and 45 minutes. Its 3.5kWh sibling and the Suzuki e-Access need approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes, but Suzuki is claiming just 1 hour and 12 minutes charging on its fast charger, which could give it an advantage down the road. At ₹99,990, the Bajaj Chetak 3001 is fairly priced, undercutting some rivals and offering better value than others. Though the Vida V2 Plus leads with a highly discounted ₹85,300 price point, this is probably valid only for a short while. The Honda QC1, at ₹90,000, is reasonably priced but lacks in range and battery size. On the pricier side, the TVS iQube 3.5 is priced at ₹1.31 lakh, and the Ather Rizta S at ₹1.10 lakh—apart from another ₹14,000 for Ather's Pro Pack, which activates core features. The TVS iQube 2.2 is priced at ₹1 lakh, positioning it almost on the same price point as the Chetak.
