Dive Brief: Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire FC has shared renderings and construction details of the team's $650 million stadium in the city's downtown, according to a news release. The new structure, designed by San Francisco-based architect Gensler and announced in early June, will seat approximately 22,000 fans, according to the news release. Around the stadium are riverfront views and open public plazas, alongside a variety of hospitality spaces and amenities. The stadium will be the catalyst for the first phase of The 78, a 62-acre master plan development for a walkable, pedestrian-oriented mixed-use campus designed by Gensler, according to the news release. Dive Insight: The 78 will feature a 24/7 district with new residential and commercial buildings, a half-mile riverwalk and a network of interconnected community spaces that support year-round programming. The initial phase will include restaurants, storefronts and a range of complementary spaces. The stadium will be entirely privately financed by the club's owner, Joe Mansueto, who is the executive chairman of Chicago-based financial services firm Morningstar. Seating options include 50 suites, more than 500 loge seats and 3,500 club seats, according to the franchise, including some with access to exclusive clubs-within-clubs. The seating bowl will be covered by an exposed steel canopy that the team claims will enhance the home-field advantage of Fire matches by directing light and crowd noise back to the pitch. Additionally, a dedicated supporter section will be built at the core of the stadium, per the release. The section is purpose-built to be loud with room for approximately 2,000 fans on safe-standing bleachers. The venue will also be designed to host international soccer matches, rugby matches, concerts, festivals and live performances, the club said in the release. Construction at The 78 is anticipated to begin by the beginning of 2026, and the new stadium is expected to open in 2028, according to the Chicago Fire. A contractor has not been announced.

Magical moments have become regular for FC Cincinnati's Evander

Chicago Fire FC should have known better. After wingback Luca Orellano switched play on a ball to Evander, the midfielder controlled it and charged at their back line. As the Fire failed to apply pressure, the 27-year-old eventually found himself within striking distance just outside the box. Advertisement From there, Evander curled the ball past goalkeeper Jeffrey Gal to deliver FC Cincinnati an unlikely 1-0 lead in the 19th minute of their 2-1 victory over the Fire on Saturday, July 5. Goals like those are uncommon for many players, but for Evander they have become regular. According to Sportec Solutions via FC Cincinnati, he leads MLS in goals outside of the box, now seven, and goals outside the penalty area since 2023, now 15. The next closest for the latter statistic, Lionel Messi and Charles Gil, each have just eight scores from such distance. "He's a talented player," coach Pat Noonan said of Evander. "He's not one-dimensional. There are games where he is productive on certain areas of the field for certain reasons depending on how teams play and structures defensively. He's able to adjust." For FC Cincinnati's second goal, Evander curled a pass onto Kévin Denkey's feet for a tap-in finish to log his eighth assist to go along with his tied for team-leading 12 goals this season. Evander, here dribbling up field during FC Cincinnati's 2-1 victory over Chicago Fire FC Saturday, has specialized in goals outside the penalty area. He has produced 15 such goals since 2023, best in MLS. Evander has delivered in big moments for FC Cincinnati The Orange and Blue have relied on Evander, who joined the club as the largest cash-for-player trade in league history, in critical moments this season, and he has produced special moments. Advertisement Just last week, he scored four goals on statistically just 0.9 expected goals in wins against CF Montréal and Orlando City SC. He also had an assist. In March, Evander scored an equalizing free kick, which he also leads the league in with three, in a 2-1 win over Nashville SC. And also that month, he finished a free kick to draw level with Atlanta United FC in an eventual 2-2 draw. "There's a lot of influences as to why he's been so impactful recently," Noonan said. "His teammates understand how and where to find him (and) the movement off the ball." Describing Evander earlier this week, Noonan praised the All-Star's soccer IQ and progression throughout the season. He said the Brazilian has impacted matches closer to goal and done hard work defensively. Advertisement Regarding those magical moments, Noonan said they happen in training. But he added the Brazilian's best abilities often occur in-game, as seen Saturday. 'Typically you just look at whoever's closest to you on the training field, and just (say), 'did we just see that,'' Noonan said. Evander will be able to show his talents in two high-profile home matches coming up, against Columbus Crew July 12 and Inter Miami CF on July 16. FC Cincinnati, in the thick of the Supporters' Shield race, could continue to rely on the talents of their leading scorer when they play their rivals, the Columbus Crew, on July 12 and Lionel Messi-led Inter Miami CF on July 16. But Noonan said Evander could produce even more. "There's more moments out there for him to have an impact," he said. Gutman healthy and happy to be contributing to high-scoring Chicago Fire FC

The Chicago Fire FC have been playing solid soccer most of this season, led by a scoring attack that has them ranked second in all of Major League Soccer in goals scored with 35. Defender Andrew Gutman has chipped in two of those goals, along with six assists. After a long journey back from injuries, the Hinsdale native is happy to be contributing to his hometown team After making only 11 appearances last season due to injuries, Gutman came into this year fully healthy and confident. "[Head coach Gregg Berhalter] and I had a lot of conversations in preseason, and he really told me that he really believed in me and really saw my quality. So then it was just focusing on where I could get better," he said. Gutman is having a breakout season, notching a career high in assists, with six in 16 matches. "You know, I've learned so much from different teams, and I don't think I was the player I am now at those teams, and I feel like all those experiences has really come together at the perfect time playing for my hometown club," he said. Gutman joined the Chicago Fire Academy – Chicago Fire FC's youth soccer club – at 15 years old, and went on to play four stellar seasons at Indiana University before his pro career began in 2019. After suiting up for six different teams, he returned to where strong roots were planted. "Oh, I think it's shaped it a lot. I think Chicago is a really hard-nosed working-class city, and for me that's kind of my view on how my play is. I don't feel like I'm the most skillful player, but I do feel like I will give 110 percent every single time I'm on the field," he said. The attacking fullback has done a little bit of everything on the field throughout his career, something up to 50 family members now get to see at every home game at Soldier Field. "It is sometimes a little bit difficult, because my uncles are all over the place, and they'll text me 24 hours before the game saying, 'Hey, I need five tickets,' and you can make it work. Looking back at my career, I'll really enjoy to be able to say that the majority of my family was able to see my play pro soccer consistently," Gutman said. Gutman's second season with the Fire is off to being one of the best of his career, and it's one he hopes is in Chicago for a long time. "I'm not quiet about it. I'd love to be here the rest of my career. So, hopefully if I continue to do well that can happen," he said. Gutman feels a lot will be happening in an organization that has made moves on and off field. "With the whole new facility coming in and the whole new staff coming in, there's definitely some growing pains, some ups and downs, but I think as season progressed we've started to hit our stride a little bit," he said. "For me, coming back to the club, taking my experience from other teams in MLS, I'm really trying to help get this team back to winning trophies, winning championships, and being one of the best teams in MLS." That starts with trying to help the Fire make their first playoff appearance in seven seasons.

First Look: Chicago Fire FC's new South Loop stadium plans

The Chicago Fire FC is wasting no time imagining the future of its proposed stadium in the South Loop. The big picture: Earlier this month, Fire FC owner Joe Mansueto announced he would privately fund a $650 million stadium in the South Loop as part of "The 78" mega development. State of play:"The 78" must have a full-time rendering department, because the in the past we've seen plans for a casino, a research institute and a White Sox stadium. Yes, but: This privately funded soccer stadium may actually become a reality. Here are new renderings released by the club and developer Related Midwest: Zoom in: This rendering shows what the stadium would look like after the rest of "The 78" is built, complete with towers and condo buildings filling out the remaining 62 acres along the south branch of the Chicago River. The intrigue: The final rendering shows the stadium being used for a non-soccer event. The proposed stadium would seat 22,000, big enough to compete for events held at the nearby Wintrust Arena or even the United Center.

Fire release renderings for $650M downtown Chicago stadium

Ammon News - The Chicago Fire FC released renderings on Monday for the club's privately financed $650 million soccer-specific stadium in downtown Chicago that is expected to open in 2028. The project was first announced earlier this month and is part of the first phase of a 62-acre master plan known as The 78, after Related Midwest's vision of creating Chicago's 78th neighborhood. Construction is slated to begin early in 2026, with the approximately 22,000-seat stadium planned as the anchor of The 78. The stadium will be entirely financed by Fire FC owner and chairman, Joe Mansueto, and will include riverfront views along with open public plazas. "I love this city and its architecture," Mansueto said in a statement. "This stadium is adding to Chicago's iconic skyline, so I want it to look timeless. It will look like it's always belonged here, but with the modern innovations required for a world-class soccer club." Stadium plans call for 50 suites and a purpose-built supporter section with room for approximately 2,000 fans in bleacher seating. "We are creating a fortress for our team and a home for our fans," said Dave Baldwin, Chicago Fire FC president of business pperations. "The open-air stadium with grass playing surface and intimate environment is intentional to give our team an edge and bring our supporters even closer to the team they love." Reuters
