Chicopee Police offer safe solution to prevent Facebook Marketplace schemes

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Facebook marketplace scams are on the rise as recent cases are targeting homeowners. According to Chicopee Police, those impacted often share their address online when it comes to selling items. They say just last week, a resident in Chicopee tried selling a dirt bike but the buyer did not end up following through with the purchase. That evening, the dirt bike was stolen from the homeowner's property. Law enforcement is reminding people to complete any sales in public places…And never give out your address. Travis Odiorne with the Chicopee Police Department told 22News, 'For online transactions, we do have that parking space in front of the police station. You come and it's monitored by a camera right up in the corner of the building. It's very simple you know, bringing a truck with a trailer or a dirt bike or something, stop in the station, and say 'Hey I'm doing a transaction out here in the corner if you don't mind just keeping an eye on it.' That parking space is monitored by an officer. Footage from the camera can be accessed by law enforcement.
