Police investigate after body found in the Spanish River

The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the Manitoulin OPP crime unit, the OPP Forensic Identification Services and the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Police lay second-degree murder charge in northwestern Ont.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), in partnership with the Treaty Three Police Service (T3PS), have charged a suspect with second-degree murder following a homicide in a remote Indigenous northwestern Ontario community. The charges were made in connection to a death in Wabaseemoong First Nation on Thursday afternoon. At about 3:30 on May 2, police and emergency medical personnel responded to an incident at a local residence. 'One individual was pronounced deceased,' the OPP said in a news release Friday. As a result of the investigation, a 34-year-old resident of the First Nation has been charged with second-degree murder. T3PS and the OPP said their investigation into the death is continuing with assistance from the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. 'The public can expect to see a large number of police in the area as a result of the investigation,' said police. 'There is no threat to public safety at this time.' The accused has been remanded into custody and will appear in court at a later date. None of the accusations has been proven in court.

Ontario Provincial Police are investigating after a body was found floating in the Upper Sturgeon River in West Nipissing last week. The discovery was made around 5:30 p.m. on June 26, the OPP said in a news release Wednesday. 'The investigation is in its early stages and the OPP reminds all members of the public to be aware of their personal safety at all times,' police said. The Nipissing West OPP crime unit is working in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service to determine the cause of death. 'Further updates will be provided when they become available,' police said.

Pedestrian struck, killed on Hwy. 401 near Mallorytown: OPP

(Supplied) A person has died after they were struck by a vehicle on westbound Highway 401 early Tuesday morning, according to Ontario Provincial Police. Police say they received reports at approximately 5:30 a.m. that a person who had exited their parked vehicle on the shoulder between Mallorytown and Lansdowne was struck by a moving vehicle. The victim will not be identified to safeguard the privacy of their family, police said in a news release. The OPP's Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Unit (TIME) and a collision reconstructionist attended the scene. The investigation continues with the Office of the Chief Coroner. The highway remained closed for several hours and has since reopened.
