TN schools to ring water bells, circular soon
KRISHNAGIRI: The School Education Department in Tamil Nadu will soon send circulars to schools asking to commence the 'water bell' programme, announced Minister of School Education Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi on Friday. The water bell initiative, which is followed in a few southern states and Puducherry, aims to promote timely intake of drinking water by students to avoid dehydration. "The Kerala government has been carrying out the water bell initiative for the past two years. In Tamil Nadu, our teachers have been verbally instructing the students to drink more water. Considering the well-being of the children, we have been the first to launch the "Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme". Soon we will send circulars instructing schools to commence the water bell initiative," said Minister of School Education Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi at a press meet. Prior to the press meet, the minister participated in the inauguration of the 'STEM Innovation and Learning Centre' in eight schools in Krishnagiri. "Sixteen STEM innovation centres and learning centres have been opened in Krishnagiri district at a cost of Rs 4.44 crore. Out of the 83 STEM innovation centres in the country, Tamil Nadu has 33, and of these, 16 are in Hosur. Students would learn through practical hands-on learning in fields of science, engineering, IT, and other sectors," the minister said. The minster also participated in a conference organised by teachers of the Tamil Nadu Urdu Primary and Middle School. "Urdu is not a foreign language. It is an Indian language with beautiful literature. As per the 2001 survey, over 6% of the population, roughly around 52 million people, speak Urdu in India," Anbil Mahesh noted. Later, the minister also participated in the State Level Achievement Survey (SLAS) events at Mookandapalli, Hosur and Adhiyamankottai in Dharmapuri. "The SLAS aims to improve the performance of teachers and schools for the betterment of students' education," the minister stated. The minister also announced that over 2,346 vacancies for teachers would be filled soon.

Dravidian model govt. focuses on development of all sectors, districts, sections of society: T.N. CM Stalin
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Wednesday (May 7, 2025) said his government focuses on the development of all sectors, districts, and sections of society, implementing schemes that aim not only to provide monetary benefits but also to achieve social benefits that enhance the quality of life. He also expressed confidence that the DMK will win the 2026 Assembly elections. 'I never said I have done everything in these four years. I still have duties left and schemes to implement, and there is still one more year left in this term. After that, with the support of the people, we will win the next Assembly elections, and the Dravidian model government will continue,' Mr. Stalin said at a function organised to mark the completion of four years of the DMK government led by him. 'I am happy that the people of Tamil Nadu are satisfied that the State stands tall under our Dravidian model government. People are also happy that their grievances are being heard and promptly addressed by this government. Four years ago, on this day [May 7, 2021], I took office as the Chief Minister. Now, I can proudly say I have remained true to the trust that the people of Tamil Nadu placed in me,' he said. 'If we were to list all the achievements of our Dravidian model government, we could make a list of accomplishments. But if I were to list what is absent in our government, it is poverty, famine, inflation, major caste conflicts, religious riots and violence. When this government was formed, we called it a dawn. Because, after being pushed to the margins for 10 years, Tamil Nadu had to be revived. We made a firm resolve to provide a dawn of hope to Tamil Nadu and Tamils. I am saying this with confidence that today, we have ensured the progress of Tamil Nadu many times,' he said. The Chief Minister also listed out several aspects of the DMK government's flagship initiatives, such as Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam, Magalir Vidiyal Payanam, Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme, Pudhumai Penn, and Tamil Pudhalvan. 'Several statistics released by the Union government have put Tamil Nadu at the forefront. Our State has been receiving several awards from the Centre. These are not awards for Stalin; these are accolades for the people of Tamil Nadu,' he added.

Opposition formed opportunistic alliance out of frustration of repeated failures: DMK president Stalin
Those who are forming an opportunistic alliance by betraying Tamil Nadu, along with their covert partners, are frustrated by repeated failures and have been wondering whether the DMK could be defeated in the 2026 Assembly elections. But people of Tamil Nadu will prove how flawed their political calculations are, said DMK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday (May 6, 2025). In a letter to DMK party cadre, Mr. Stalin said 'As of May 7, our Dravida model government completes four years and is stepping into its fifth year. People of Tamil Nadu trusted us and we have been delivering good-governance and people-centric schemes, driven by the goal of 'everything for everyone.' In the last four years, Tamil Nadu has become a leading State. Those who are ideologically opposed to us, ruling other States, have also begun to follow our initiatives. The people's sentiment shows that this good governance will continue for another five years.' The DMK ruled the State on six occasions and ensured socio-economic progress by implementing schemes that benefited every household and building a modern Tamil Nadu. It will once again be the DMK that will secure a grand victory in the 2026 Assembly elections and form the government for the seventh time, Mr. Stalin said. 'To uphold the trust people have placed in us, we must work tirelessly on the ground. Since our political opponents were unable to find fault in our governance, they resort to spreading slander. They misuse institutions to launch politically motivated attacks. But we are not a submissive party to be scared by such tactics. The DMK will continue to fight for Tamil Nadu's rights. Most of the 505 promises that we made in our 2021 election manifesto have been fulfilled. Further, many successful schemes not mentioned in the manifesto have also been implemented to benefit people. I neither deny nor forget that there are few other poll promises yet to be fulfilled. I remain committed to fulfilling them,' Mr. Stalin said. 'For the next one year, our focus should be on election-related work. The party headquarters has developed action plans and communicated them to the district secretaries. The party's activities on ground should align with the action plan. Elaborate election strategies will be discussed during the party's general council meeting scheduled to be held in Madurai on June 1,' he said. He also urged the booth agents and party cadres to actively engage on social media platforms and promptly take forward messages from party headquarters to the people. Party speakers addressing public meetings across State should clearly and concisely present the achievements of four years of our Dravida model government and explain with statistics to people about the benefits of some of our flagship schemes such as Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam, free bus travel for women, Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme, Naan Mudhalvan, Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam, Pudhumai Penn and Tamil Pudhalvan, he added.
