Accusing him of 'bringing shame to the nation', the BJP on Wednesday targeted Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi for his comments on External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar's meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh said Jaishankar held the meeting with Xi to express the nation's 'concern over Pakistan-sponsored Pahalgam terrorist attack'. 'We all know how Rahul Gandhi used to hold secret meetings with the China officials for breakfast or whatever in Delhi without disclosing the agenda to the people of the nation,' said Chugh. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday took a jibe at Lok Sabha Leader Of Opposition Rahul Gandhi ahead of the Parliament's monsoon session and suggested him not to speak 'anti-national" or anything which goes against the country. Reiterating his attack of 'speaking language of Pakistan," Rijiju questioned Gandhi's intentions behind attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi over foreign policy, pointing out that 'opposition also has a role in doing good work for the country." '…Rahul Gandhi criticising the Prime Minister on the country's foreign policy won't help the nation. The Opposition also has a role to play in contributing to the nation's development. 'During the Congress government, we did not attack the prime minister separately on foreign policy. The way Rahul Gandhi tries to mislead people on foreign policy by speaking the language of Pakistan, it harms the country. We will suggest to him that as the leader of the opposition, he should not say anything anti-national," he added. Rijiju's comments came a day after Gandhi attacked External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar over his meeting with China's Xi Jinping, claiming that he was running a 'full-blown circus" aimed at destroying India's foreign policy. Other Congress leaders also took aim at Jaishankar, pointing out how China provided iron-clad support to Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. 'I guess the Chinese foreign minister will come and apprise (PM) Modi about recent developments in China-India ties. The EAM is now running a full-blown circus aimed at destroying India's foreign policy," Gandhi has posted on X. The BJP soon responded to the grand-old-party leader and accused him of being a 'habitual liar and offender" when it comes to disrespecting the armed forces. BJP national spokesperson Ajay Alok took a jibe at Gandhi saying he does not now 'F of foreign policy" but keeps raising questions. view comments First Published: July 16, 2025, 19:54 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. 'No anti-national statements': Kiren Rijiju's advice to Rahul Gandhi over his foreign policy remarks; reiterates 'Pakistani language' attack

File photo: PTI NEW DELHI: Parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju hit back at Rahul Gandhi with a suggestion that as "the leader of the opposition (in Lok Sabha), he should not say anything anti-national. " Reiterating his attack of "speaking language of Pakistan," Rijiju questioned Rahul's intentions behind attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi over foreign policy, pointing out that 'opposition also has a role in doing good work for the country." "Now you blame the prime minister for foreign policy, instead of uniting the country, you speak against the Prime Minister of the country. What does the country gain from this? Opposition does not mean abusing the country. The opposition also has a role in doing good work for the country. When it comes to foreign policy, we should not be divided," Rijiju said. During the Congress government, we did not attack the prime minister separately on foreign policy. The way Rahul Gandhi tries to mislead people on foreign policy by speaking the language of Pakistan, it harms the country. Whatever issue comes up in Parliament, we will listen to it. Yesterday I had a very good meeting with Kharge ji and Rahul ji. I keep having regular meetings with leaders of other opposition parties. Being a parliamentary minister, it is my responsibility to maintain coordination with everyone. But whatever the issue is, we can resolve it only by discussing. Nothing will be achieved by creating a ruckus," he said. Rahul Gandhi criticized external affairs minister S Jaishankar , saying that he is "running a full-blown circus aimed at destroying India's foreign policy". "I guess the Chinese foreign minister will come and apprise Modi about recent developments in China-India ties. The EAM is now running a full-blown circus aimed at destroying India's foreign policy," Gandhi had said. This came after Jaishankar appraised China over improved ties with India, especially in the past nine months. However, he had pressed upon the need to address remaining issues, including full de-escalation. He had also highlighted the importance of easing trade restrictions and boosting people-to-people exchanges.

Rahul does not know 'F' of foreign policy but keeps raising questions: BJP

The BJP on Wednesday (July 16, 2025) accused Rahul Gandhi of being a "habitual liar and offender" when it comes to disrespecting the armed forces. BJP national spokesperson Ajay Alok also hit back at the Congress leader for his "circus" jibe at the government's handling of the China issue after External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Chinese President Xi Jinping, saying he does not know "F of foreign policy" but keeps raising questions. Mr. Alok said, "When our Foreign Minister goes to China for the SCO meeting and if he does not meet his Chinese counterpart and the country's president, then who will he meet? Italy's prime minister?" Tagging a media report on Mr. Jaishankar calling on Mr. Xi and apprising him of the recent development in India-China ties, Mr. Gandhi said on Tuesday, the External Affairs Minister was "running a full-blown circus aimed at destroying India's foreign policy". "I guess the Chinese Foreign Minister will come and apprise Modi about recent developments in China-India ties. The EAM is now running a full-blown circus aimed at destroying India's foreign policy," Mr. Gandhi had said. Two days after a Lucknow court granted bail to Gandhi following his appearance in a defamation case filed over his remarks "against" the armed forces, Alok accused the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha of being a "habitual liar and offender". He said Mr. Gandhi has often made disparaging remarks against the armed forces, and cited his comments like "khoon ki dalali" and "Chinese are beating up our soldiers" to attack him. Amid the RSS' call to rethink the insertion of words 'secular' and 'socialist' in the Constitution's preamble during the Emergency, Alok said it must be debated in the country as the amendment was an "insult" to B R Ambedkar and was done when opposition leaders were in jail.
