Ironheart Head Writer Shares the Sweet, Real-Life Inspiration for Landon, the Kid With the Wagon
Marvel Television's Ironheart opened with a sequence that resulted in 'bad girl genius' Riri Williams' (Dominique Thorne) expulsion from MIT. As she flew home to Chicago — in her self-made supersuit — the school-assigned AI assistant glitched out, leading to a very bumpy landing. Helping Riri complete the final blocks of her trip home, by lugging the pieces of her busted suit in his wagon — in trade for an Andrew Jackson, mind you — was a local youth named Landon, played by Harper Anthony. Landon would resurface later in the six-episode season, as part of the team of friends and family that helps Riri re-re-rebuild her suit, in time for a pivotal face-off with The Hood. Save the Dates: Delayed Digman! Season 2, Eyes of Wakanda and More Marvel's Big TV Teases: Will Mephisto Go the Way of the Power Broker, Hulk's Son, Super Skrull G'iah...? When I hopped on my recent Zoom with Ironheart head writer Chinaka Hodge and fellow EP Ryan Coogler, I couldn't help but first acknowledge the series' young cast. Led by Thorne but also featuring great work by Lyric Ross (as N.A.T.A.L.I.E.) and scene stealer Regan Aliyha (as Zelma), the cast, I noted, was 'dynamite — down to the kid with the wagon!' Both Hodge and Coogler replied to my kudos with appreciative clapping, after which the former elaborated on the series' youngest character. 'Thank you for bringing up 'the kid with the wagon,'' she said. 'That's the one character that doesn't exist in publishing, and is the one character that came from my mind. And I love Landon the character and Harper the actor infinitely.' Hodge went on to explain Landon's origin. 'I stared writing this during the COVID/shelter in place era, and there was a kid who lived on my block named Landon,' she shared. 'He would come over and poke his nose in — 'What are you doing, Miss 'Naka, what are you writing? What's this show, what's this show? Can you put me in this show? Put me in this show!'' And when all was said and done, there a young boy named Landon is, helping out one of Marvel's newest heroes. 'So I'm very glad that Landon lives' as a character, 'and Harper makes him sing,' Hodge smiled. Want scoop on any Marvel TV show? Will There Be An ‘Ironheart' Season 2 On Disney+?
"Ironheart" Season 1 on Disney+. After releasing in two parts over the span of one week, all six episodes of Ironheart are now streaming. The explosive finale introduced a Thanos-level Marvel villain and left several characters with unresolved storylines. So, what's the latest news on Season 2? Or is this the last season on Disney+? Ironheart marks the return of Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne), who audiences first met in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2023). Now back in her hometown of Chicago, the MIT prodigy and armor-building genius is chasing her ambitions — while also getting entangled with the mysterious Parker Robbins (Anthony Ramos), a.k.a. The Hood. The action-packed Ironheart Season 1 finale ends with multiple loose ends, suggesting this may not be the last we see of the MCU series that officially closed out Phase 5. Here's what to know about the status of Ironheart Season 2 and the future of Thorne's character in the greater Marvel universe. Will There Be An Ironheart Season 2? "Ironheart" Season 1 on Disney+. As of early July, Ironheart has not yet been renewed for a second season. However, series creator Chinaka Hodge remains optimistic that the superhero show will continue on Disney+ for multiple seasons. "I'll keep it with you a buck, I'm hoping for all work in Hollywood right now," Hodge said in a recent interview with IGN. 'Yes, a second season, a third season, a fourth season. Yes!' When asked where Riri Williams could be headed next — maybe to Black Panther 3 in Wakanda — director Ryan Coogler admitted that he doesn't know anything yet. 'I don't know jack sh*t," he told Variety. Coogler continued, 'I'm here for whatever Chinaka's got coming at us next; whatever Kevin's got coming at us next, you know what I'm saying. I think the audience is going to take to that ending and I can't wait to see those characters again.' Warning: Spoilers ahead for Ironheart Season 1. What Does The Ironheart Season 1 Ending Mean For Season 2? "Ironheart" Season 1 on Disney+. In the Ironheart Season 1 finale, Williams goes head-to-head with Parker Robbins (a.k.a. The Hood), pitting her brilliant armor against his magical cloak, powered by Dormammu, the interdimensional entity introduced in Doctor Strange. She defeats Ezekiel Stane and eventually Parker, taking his hood and leaving him powerless. The explosive final episode also features the long-anticipated arrival of Marvel villain Mephisto (Sacha Baron Cohen), who is revealed to be the mysterious figure that originally gave Parker the hood. Even after defeating Parker, Williams finds herself in a difficult position. She lacks the funds to build more tech — and her holographic A.I. best friend, N.A.T.A.L.I.E., disappears again after using magic to supercharge Riri's armor. (The real Natalie died earlier in the season in a drive-by shooting that also claimed the life of Williams' stepdad, Gary.) Desperate, Williams strikes a deal with Mephisto to bring N.A.T.A.L.I.E. back. Instead, he resurrects the real Natalie, which could have serious consequences down the line. When Williams hugs her friend, dark scars begin to form on Riri's arm (the same kind Parker had after wearing Mephisto's cloak). Could she become futher entangled with Mephisto and go down a darker path in the future? Then, in the mid-credits scene, Parker visits the candy/magic shop Stanton's in search of help from Zelma Stanton. 'I know you don't know me, at least not yet. But if you're up for it, how about a little abracadabra?' Parker says, leaving his story also open-ended for a potential Season 2. What Has Dominique Thorne Said About Her Character's Future In Ironheart And The MCU? "Ironheart" Season 1 on Disney+. In an interview with The Direct, Thorne teased what she'd like to see for her character if Ironheart is renewed for another season. 'Actually don't think I can even say that without spoiling everything... I would like to see her explore the full range of other options presented to her in season 1.,' she explained. 'I think this time around, once again, her mind is opened about what actually exists in the world, realising that it's so much bigger than what she thought even in her hometown, that things are so much bigger and there's a lot more going on than she ever cared to know or to understand.' She continued, "So now that she does know what's out there, what does she choose? And, when she makes a choice, we know that she'll commit. And so what does that look like for her to lean into the total left-field option of what we would expect from her? I think that would be pretty cool." As for whether Riri will appear in Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars, she didn't give a direct answer. 'Oh, you know, what can I say? The odds might be in our favor. Who knows? We'll see. We'll see," she told the site. Stay tuned to learn updates about a potential Ironheart Season 2. Ironheart Season 1 is streaming on Disney+. Watch the official trailer below.

Marvel Entertainment on Monday (June 9) unveiled a new trailer for its upcoming superhero series, Ironheart. Starring Dominique Thorne as the titular superhero, the series is set to premiere with its first three episodes on June 24 on Disney+. In the trailer, we see Riri Williams (Thorne), the prodigy inventor introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, attempt to refine her suit with the help of magic. However, trouble finds its way. 'Her unique take on building iron suits is brilliant, but in pursuit of her ambitions, she finds herself wrapped up with the mysterious yet charming Parker Robbins aka 'The Hood' (Anthony Ramos),' reads the logline of the series. Fascinatingly, the final moments of the trailer also glimpse at N.A.T.A.L.I.E., Riri's personal assistant, akin to Jarvis, who takes the form of Natalie Washington (Lyric Ross), Riri's best friend. Directed by Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes, Ironheart also features Alden Ehrenreich, Regan Aliyah, Manny Montana, Matthew Elam, and Anji White. Written and created by Chinaka Hodge, the six-episode series is executive produced by Ryan Coogler, the acclaimed filmmaker known for helming titles like Black Panther and Sinners. Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Zoie Nagelhout, Chinaka Hodge, Sev Ohanian, and Zinzi Coogler also executive produce.
