Police begin extradition process for Dubai-based accused in minor sisters' murder

Agra: A day after a special SC/ST court sentenced two men to death for the murder of two minor sisters in Hathras, police have begun the process of extraditing the third accused, Sone Lal, who has been living in Dubai for several years. Police said Sone Lal, the victims' cousin, is believed to have orchestrated the killings over a property dispute. He paid the convicts Rs 2 lakh—Rs 20,000 of it in advance—to eliminate the girls and take control of the family's property. Hathras SSP Chiranjeev Nath Sinha said higher authorities are being contacted, and a formal request has been sent to the ministry of external affairs with case details and supporting evidence to initiate legal action against him. According to police, Vikas Singh, a truck driver from Fatehpur and relative of the victims, and his accomplice Lalu Pal, had dinner with the family at their home in Ashirvad Dham Colony on Jan 23. Around 1:30 am, while the family was asleep, the duo used a sharp weapon to slit the throats of six-year-old Vidhi, a Class 2 student, and her twelve-year-old sister Srishti, a Class 7 student. Their parents—Chhote Lal, a 40-year-old lecturer, and his wife Virangana, 35—sustained serious injuries while trying to save them. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Neighbours rushed in on hearing their screams, but the attackers escaped before help arrived. Inter-state child trafficking gang targeting IVF patients busted in UP; 5 held, 4-year-old rescued

Representational image AGRA: An inter-state child trafficking gang that catered to childless couples desperate for a baby after failed IVF (in vitro fertilisation) treatments was busted by Uttar Pradesh Police . Five accused, including kingpin Mallika Arjun and two women, have been arrested. A four-year-old boy, lifted from Hathras district recently, was rescued from Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh. The gang has 12 members across the country, and would obtain details of couples undergoing IVF treatments from fertility centres, said police on Friday. The gang would then approach those whose procedures had failed and were emotionally vulnerable, offering them a child for Rs 3-5 lakh. Once a deal was made, the gang members would begin looking for a 'suitable' child. 'The gang primarily targeted poor families in dire financial need. If the parents agreed to sell the child, the transaction was done secretly. If not, the child would be abducted and later sold to the childless couple,' said Hathras SSP Chiranjeev Nath Sinha. 'This gang first selects a target and then rents a house near the child's location and gets close to the child's family. Once they have gained trust, they take photographs of the child and send it across for approval by the prospective buyers (childless families). by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like What Happened To The Baywatch Cast Over The Years CleverClassic Undo The gang abducts the child only after getting the go ahead,' SSP Sinha said. The racket came to light after a four-year-old boy, Kavish Kumar, was abducted from Hathras on May 9. Five special police teams were formed and over 500 CCTV footages were scanned. The child was rescued from Vijayawada. 'So far, nine children sold through this syndicate have been identified. We are now working to track the remaining children. Roles of IVF clinics are also being probed,' said DSP Hathras Yogendra Krishna Narayan. The arrested accused are Monu Pathak from Hathras and his wife from Ghaziabad. Those from Andhra Pradesh include Meddipatla Raghevendra and his mother from Kadapa district, and kingpin Mallika Arjun from Paderu. Police have registered a case under BNS 143-(3) (5) (human trafficking), said Hathras Nagar Kotwali SHO Girish Chandra.

Hathras college rape case: Principal held for criminal intimidation

Nearly a month after a 54-year-old professor of a government –aided college in Hathras was arrested for raping and sexually exploiting several woman students, police on Wednesday arrest the college principal on charges of criminal intimidation and dereliction of duty. Speaking to The Indian Express, Superintendent of Police (Hathras) Chiranjeev Nath Sinha said the investigators found that several complaints of sexual exploitation by the professor were made to the principal by women students. 'But he (the college principal) threatened them, accusing them of trying to defame the college. He also threatened the students of ruining their career. He not only scolded the victims, but also drove them out of his office,' the SP said. 'No action was taken by the principal even when he was informed about the videos the accused professor shot with the students and continued to promote him. When this matter first came to light in 2023 through an application, he disregarded the UGC rules and regulations on preventing sexual harassment and made a junior lecturer from the accused professor's department the chairman of the investigation committee. So, effectively, no action could be taken against the accused professor,' the SP said. 'Despite knowing about the sexual exploitation of the victims, the accused professor was made the chief proctor so that the accused could sexually harass the girls by putting mental pressure on them and the victims could not complain to any competent authority,' read an official statement issued by Hathras police. The accused professor was arrested from Prayagraj on March 19. He was booked for rape, and under the provision of the Information Technology Act. Hathras District Magistrate Rahul Pandey had earlier said that a committee comprising the Basic Sikhsha Adhikari, the Circle Officer, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate and a woman tehsildar has been formed to probe the matter. 'They are finalizing the report and the report will be submitted soon,' Pandey told The Indian Express. 'The committee members went to college and spoke to students. When we received the complaint this time, it was along with evidence and indisputable,' he added.
