Douglas James-Taylor bags first Bohemians goal in cruise over Galway United – though concern over injured ace
BOHEMIANS climbed to second thanks to their biggest home win in 20 months. Douglas James-Taylor's first goal for the club - on Although they had twice won 3-0 on the road since, it was their largest margin of victory in Phibsborough since defeating Cork City 4-0 on the final day of the 2023 season. They are now eight points behind leaders Shamrock Rovers, with a game in hand, although Derry City can leapfrog them if they beat Sligo Rovers. The next league game for Alan Reynolds' side is away to the Candystripes on Friday week with both sides looking to establish their credentials as the Hoops' main challengers. For Galway, it is about trying to stop the rot. They have won just two of their last 12 games. Read More On Irish Football They had taken three points here in March but that was thanks to two goals by Moses Dyer who had since left. His effective replacement Malcom Shaw was handful here but is not as clinical. This was his fifth appearance and he has yet to score. He went close with a bicycle kick from Jeannot Esua's cross. And his physical presence did give Galway an outlet in the first half at least. Esua was involved in Galway's only real other opportunity of the first half when his path deflected nicely into the path of Ed McCarthy. Most read in Football Kacper Chorazka was alert to the danger and raced off his line to block. The ball came to David Hurley but his chipped effort went wide. But Bohs had the bulk of the ball and more chances. From Chorazka's goal kick following Hurley's shot, Greg Cunningham misdirected a defensive header. Inside Lamine Yamal's epic summer including holiday to Sicily with model 11 years his senior & meeting Neymar in Brazil That allowed James Clarke to nick the ball, he shifted the ball on to his left, and then back on to his right and tried to curl one into the far corner but Evan Watts made a good save. There was nothing he could do when James-Taylor stroked the ball across his goal but a deflection off Esua helped it onto the post and the danger passed. Earlier, Rob Slevin had headed behind when Dayle Rooney thumped the ball into the ground from Adam McDonnell's cross when he would have hoped to have made a cleaner connection. But perhaps a bigger concern than not getting a goal in the opening 45 minutes was the departure of Rob Cornwall - who missed the rest of last season after tearing his ACL on the opening night - through injury. 1 It was a comfortable 3-0 win for the home side His replacement Leigh Kavanagh was the unlikely source of an assist for the opening goal in the 47th minute. After Walsh had failed to trouble Chorazka, Kavanagh was allowed to carry the ball over the halfway line without anyone making an effort to dispossess him. The centre-half played it into James-Taylor who had his back to goal. Again, Galway stood off, giving the striker the time and space to swivel and rifle the ball into the bottom corner. He almost turned provider in the 55th minute when he won the ball ahead of Galway debutant Aaron Bolger. He prodded the ball forward with Clarke getting ahead of Cunningham whom he left trailing in his wake. The shot which followed was good but, again, Watts thwarted the Meath man. Clarke then teed up McDonnell in front of goal but, as he moved to pull the trigger, Slevin made a block. But Bohs doubled their advantage in the 62nd minute when it was a case of third time lucky for Clarke who scored with a tap-in after good work by McDonnell and Dawson Devoy. It was 3-0 10 minutes later. Devoy carried the ball forward before slipping in Clarke who cut inside one of the substitutes Garry Buckley before letting fly into the far corner. Cillian Tollett went close to a consolation goal after coming on but his header struck the bar. Seán Grehan the hero as Bohs fight back to beat Galway
Seán Grehan was the two-goal second-half hero as Bohemians came back to defeat Galway United 2-1 at a sun-swept Eamonn Deacy Park. In the opening stages of proceedings, Patrick Hickey had the first sight of goal, but he could not manufacture any meaningful contact on his effort, before, at the other end of the pitch, Brendan Clarke had to be sharp to keep out Dawson Devoy's long-range shot. Shortly after, Hickey found space in the box once again as he cannoned a close-range volley goal-bound, only for a white jersey to deflect the effort away from the net. United attacker Cillian Tollett, who made his first competitive start in a maroon jersey, applied himself well in his 45-minute cameo, while the in-form Moses Dyer was a handful for the Bohemians defence. Halfway through the first period, the Tribesmen went very close to taking the lead when David Hurley tested Kacper Chorazka from a tight angle, but the Polish shot-stopper did just enough to send it behind for a corner. Alan Reynolds' team, who were defeated by Waterford last time out, produced some slick play in attack, but the end product was lacking at times to truly create a clear-cut opening in the first 45 minutes. Jeannot Esua was next to hit the target, as Chorazka was well placed, while Robert Slevin could not get enough purchase on a lobbed effort a few minutes later. Just before the break, Slevin, who made his 80th United appearance, became the provider this time around as his cross was superbly met by Dyer to give John Caulfield's side the lead in the 43rd minute. The New Zealand striker demonstrated sharpness to get himself in the right place at the right time to make a sufficient connection on his volley to net his eighth goal of the campaign, and his third of the season against Bohs. In the early stages of the second half, Chorazka was quick off his line to stop Dyer scoring his second, while United keeper Brendan Clarke had to be just as sharp to deny Bohs' James Clarke after some neat build-up play by the away outfit. Bohemians continued to push for the equaliser as the momentum started to sway towards Bohs. Brendan Clarke was forced into producing a stretched one-handed save to prevent a certain own goal, before the United number one had to palm Jordan Flores' effort over the bar in the following play. The pressure paid off with half an hour to go in the game. Devoy set up Dayle Rooney down the right, who dinked the ball to the back post, which was emphatically met by the head of Grehan to send the ball past Brendan Clarke and bring the sides level in the 59th minute. Following the equaliser, both teams went for a winner - Bohs' James Clarke hit the top of the crossbar with a fine swerved effort, while Hickey almost bundled home at the other end, but the ball just about stayed out. In the last 15 minutes, Dyer tested Chorazka with a volley, while Stephen Walsh had to be brave to block a Colm Whelan strike. Rooney also went close in added time. The winner arrived in the 97th minute. Grehan met Rooney's left-footed delivery to glance a header into the bottom corner to send the Bohs fans into jubilation and earn his team a crucial three points away from home. Galway United: Clarke; Slevin, Brouder, Dyer, Hurley; Hickey, Burns (Donelon 65), Horgan (Kerrigan 65), McCormack, Tollett (Walsh 45); Esua. Bohemians: Chorazka; Morahan, Flores (Buckley 70), Rooney, Devoy; McManus (Whelan 65), Clarke, McDonnell, Mountney (Cornwall 45), Tierney (Brennan 83); Grehan.

Grehan finds late, late winner for Bohs in breathless contest with Galway
SSE Airtricity Premier Division: Galway United 1 Bohemians 2 Last-minute winners have not lost their lustre for Bohemians if these scenes were anything to go by. Sean Grehan's second of the night, and second injury-time winner in 10 days sparked pandemonium on the pitch, in the dugout and in the stands. It was a fitting end to an absorbing contest. The visitors played some lovely stuff at times and started fluidly. They were comfortable on the ball and interchanged often, something possible for a team where nine of the outfield players could be said to be most at home in midfield. Dawson Devoy tested Brendan Clarke from the edge of the box after some neat interplay. Patrick Hickey was close from a set-piece at the other end. The template was established, and it favoured United for most of the first half. They created chances more easily and often overpowered a physically lighter opposition. There were moments of quality too, not least from David Hurley, who plucked a ball from the sky, put it under his spell, drove down the left and shot violently at the near post. Kacper Chorazka kept it out well. Moses Dyer had a penalty shout in the 26th minute. Kevin O'Sullivan commanded the first half well enough to have earned the benefit of the doubt when he waved it away. The Kiwi persevered and had his eighth of the season before half-time, reacting quickest to a cross from Rob Slevin and finding the bottom corner with a clever finish. A passage early in the second half encapsulated the game. Bohs passed sharply on the right, creating space for Ross Tierney who found James Clarke. The header was tame and easily gathered by his namesake who launched it downfield, putting Dyer straight through. The striker's toe poke was well smothered by Chorazka. James had a couple of better chances not long after, but the outcome was the same: two saves for Brendan. The pressure eventually told however, and Sean Grehan forced one over the line with an impressive header after Dayle Rooney stood a cross up to the back post. Hickey won his own tussle at the other end shortly after but was denied by the post. He was winning everything and headed a Brouder cross over minutes after that. Dyer too was denied again by Chorazka in a breathless contest. Bohs got to double digits in their corner count late on. Grehan and Rooney were both close before Grehan did his thing. GALWAY UNITED: Clarke; Esua, Horgan (Donelon 65), Brouder, Slevin, Burns (Kerrigan 65); McCormack, Hickey, Hurley; Tollett (Walsh 45), Dyer BOHEMIANS: Chorazka; Morahan, Mountney (Cornwall 45), Grehan, Flores (Buckley 70); Tierney (Brennan 82), McManus (Whelan 65), Devoy, McDonnell, Rooney; Clarke Referee: K O' Sullivan
