Glenn Ouelette among 30 candidates in the running for alderman, school board in 2025 Manchester municipal election

Three more people filed papers Tuesday to run for office in the 2025 Manchester municipal election, including someone well-known to anyone who follows Queen City politics. Glenn Ouellette, a former perennial mayoral candidate who often voices his opinion during public comment portions of aldermen meetings and serenades the aldermanic chambers around the holidays with a microphone and portable karaoke machine, is running for Ward 3 alderman. The two-week window for candidates to file papers to run for office in the 2025 Manchester municipal election opened Monday at 8 a.m. Declarations of candidacy will be accepted at the City Clerk's Office at City Hall during regular business hours until the filing period ends at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 25. Voters in each ward will select a mayor, two aldermen at-large, two school committee members at-large, one alderman, one school committee member and various ward officials, including a moderator, a ward clerk and three selectmen. A total of 30 candidates for aldermen and school board seats have now filed paperwork during the first day of the filing period. The municipal primary election will be held on Sept. 16 with the general election being held on Nov. 4. The previous surface at he Centre for Sporting Excellence in Ystrad Mynach had reached the end of its lifespan. The investment in the new facility is part of Caerphilly County Borough Council's Sport and Active Recreation Strategy. The renewed pitch enhances the overall quality of the site and strengthens its position as a Level 3 strategic facility for both club and community use. Chris Morgan, cabinet member for leisure, said: 'The improved pitch ensures we continue to provide the best possible environment for local clubs, schools and professional teams to thrive. "It shows how serious we are about delivering high quality, sustainable facilities across the county borough.' The centre is used by local sports clubs, school teams and college learners. Coleg y Cymoedd students regularly use it as part of their sporting and educational development, and Dragons RFC has renewed its long-term commitment to the site as its primary training base. Located at Risca School and Leisure Centre, the facility will serve both Risca Community Comprehensive School students during the day and the wider community in the evenings and on weekends. Advertisement Councillor Chris Morgan, cabinet member for leisure, said: "This development reflects our commitment to providing high-quality, accessible facilities that support both education and lifelong participation in sport. "The 3G pitch enhances our ability to deliver the aims of the sport and active recreation strategy, ensuring that more people can enjoy the benefits of physical activity close to home." The floodlit pitch replaces the previous AstroTurf surface and is designed to accommodate both football and rugby. Its durable artificial surface allows for year-round use by schools, clubs, and community groups. Advertisement The project supports Caerphilly County Borough Council's Sport and Active Recreation Strategy 2019–2029 and forms part of the authority's wider Place Shaping programme. Councillor Carol Andrews, cabinet member for education and communities, said: "This facility is an excellent example of how we can maximise the use of school sites for the benefit of both learners and the wider community. "It is a clear demonstration of our Place Shaping principles in action, creating shared spaces that improve education, health, and community wellbeing." The pitch was funded through the Welsh Government's Community Focused Schools capital grant programme. New all-weather sports pitch officially opened in Caerphilly

The 3G artificial turf facility is located at St Cenydd Leisure Centre and will be used by both St Cenydd Community School and the wider community. Funded through the UK Government's Shared Prosperity Fund, the £1 million development is part of Caerphilly County Borough Council's Sport and Active Recreation Strategy and Place Shaping programme. Councillor Chris Morgan, cabinet member for leisure, said: "This new dual-use facility represents a significant investment in local sport and physical activity. "It will provide a safe, modern and accessible environment for school pupils, sports clubs and the wider community to enjoy all year round. "The project reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting healthier, more active lifestyles through the Sport and Active Recreation Strategy." The pitch meets World Rugby and FIFA standards, allowing year-round use by schools, clubs, and residents. Bookings follow the council's established sports pitch allocation criteria.
