Will Smith Admits Painful Regret Over Turning Down ‘Inception' Role
Will Smith's batting average when it comes to selecting his movie roles is certainly nothing to turn your nose up at. However, just like any actor, Smith has a few movies that disappointed, and others that he turned down that wound up being major hits. While Smith has previously admitted to other noteworthy films he passed on, his comments while speaking on radio station KISS XTRA make it apparent he still feels the sting of one or two specifically. As HuffPost detailed, Smith admitted to KISS XTRA that writer and director Chris Nolan pitched the movie Inception to him, but he turned it down. The Bad Boys star explained that he "didn't get" the idea behind the film. "I don't think I've ever even said it publicly before..." Smith said. "...Chris Nolan brought me Inception first, and I didn't get it." "And now that I think about it, it's those movies that go into those alternate realities; they don't pitch well." Smith also called his decision to pass on The Matrix, a role in which Keanu Reeves ultimately thrived, one of his "beautiful scars." At the end of the conversation, Smith admitted he's "hurt by those two," referencing passing on Inception and The Matrix. Leonardo DiCaprio ultimately starred in Inception, and it became one of his biggest hits. The movie grossed $828 million worldwide on a reported budget of $160 million and pulled in 102 awards overall, including four Smith Admits Painful Regret Over Turning Down 'Inception' Role first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 16, 2025

Original BLADE Trilogy Writer David S. Goyer Says He Doesn't Understand Why The Reboot Hasn't Happened - "I'm Baffled" — GeekTyrant
David S. Goyer is no stranger to the comic book genre, having written the original Blade trilogy, Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance , Man of Steel, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice , among others, and he's excited for what's happening in the world of comic book films, but he's also confused about some hold ups. During a recent interview with Josh Horowitz for Batman Begins ' 20th anniversary (via CBM), Goyer addressed the online fans who believe he's the right person to make Marvel Studios' Blade reboot a reality. Goyer explained: "I'm pretty much still not in a comic book I go back and forth. All the time on social media, I see, 'Oh, they should have Goyer do the new Blade.' Part of me thinks it would be fun, but part of me thinks I did, so far, the definitive Blade, and [it would be] a mistake. I remember Chris [Nolan] advising me not to work on the Affleck Batman because it's confusing. We did one, just stick with that." Horowitz expressed his confusion with Marvel Studios' apparent inability to get cameras rolling on Blade , and Goyer responded, "I don't either, because in my mind, I think Blade is a relatively simple story. It's not complicated. 'I always think when you embark on a movie like this, you have to distil down what the promise of the movie [is]. The promise of a new Blade is that it should have insane ass kicking, it should be pretty scary, might be R-Rated, and it should not be complicated. 'It should be a simple story. So, I don't know why it's been so hard. I have no idea why. I'm baffled. Mahershala Ali is an amazing actor. I don't know why." Goyer later shared his belief that although Snipes' return as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine was cool, and welcomed by fans, it might have been a misstep, especially with so many fans now eager to see him hunting vampires again. "I thought that was cool too," he acknowledged, "but it's confusing also if you're trying to do another one." He quickly added that he has nothing to do with the next Blade movie, so he's unaware of what Marvel Studios might be plotting. It's hard to say whether Marvel is keeping a lid on things, or they're just rudderless at the moment when it comes to the character of Blade. I guess we will just have to wait and see, and as always, we will keep you updated.

Here's why Will Smith rejected Christopher Nolan's 'Inception'?
If you think Will Smith's biggest regrets include turning down The Matrix and Django Unchained, then here's another shocker. The actor was offered Christopher Nolan's Inception first, reported Variety. In a recent interview with radio station Kiss Xtra, Smith turned down the movie because he didn't understand its plot. After Smith's rejection, Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio headlined the film and ended up with one of his biggest hits. "I don't think I've ever said it publicly, but I am going to say it because we're opening up to one another. Chris Nolan brought me Inception first, and I didn't get it. I've never said that out loud. Now that I think about it, it's those movies that go into those alternate realities... they don't pitch well. But I am hurt by those, too," Smith said. Smith also rejected The Matrix because he didn't connect to the Wachowski siblings movie pitch, which he said was more about their intended directing style than the actual story. Smith posted a YouTube video in 2019 in which the actor retold the pitch that was narrated to him by the Matrix makers. "We're thinking like... imagine you're in a fight. You, like, jump. Imagine if you could stop jumping in the middle of the jump. But then, people could see around you 360 degrees while you stop jumping. We're going to invent these cameras, and then people can see the whole jump when you stop in the middle of the jump," Smith was quoted as saying by Variety. As for Django Unchained, which is another painful addition to the actor's rejected movie list, Smith said that he turned down the movie because he didn't want to "make a slavery film about vengeance". "It was about the creative direction of the story. To me, it's as perfect a story as you could ever want: a guy that learns how to kill to retrieve his wife that has been taken as a slave. That idea is perfect. And it was just that Quentin and I couldn't see [eye to eye]," Smith was quoted as saying by The Hollywood Reporter. "I wanted to make that movie so badly, but I felt the only way was, it had to be a love story, not a vengeance story." The Men in Black and Wild Wild West actor recently released his first full-length solo music project in 20 years, titled Based on a True Story.

Carlow demolish Kerry to continue winning run in Joe McDonagh Cup
Kerry 0-17 Carlow 3-27 Carlow continued their winning ways in the Joe McDonagh Cup with a nineteen point victory over this young Kerry side at the Austin Stack Park. And in truth, it was never a contest. Carlow built up an unassailable half time lead and despite a better performance from the home side in the second period, Carlow cruised to victory. This was not unexpected as Carlow's trajectory has been on the up over the last three years with Kerry heading in the opposite direction. So it is not surprising that Kerry struggled for long periods in containing a rampant Carlow side who dominated from the very outset as they raced 0-4 to no score in front after just six minutes thanks to points from Chris Nolan, Marty Kavanagh (2) and Conor Kehoe with a fine effort from play. Kerry opened their account with a Dylan Moriarty free in the eight minute, and despite using Darragh Conway as a sweeper, they were being overrun as Carlow, who competed in Division 1B of the league, proved far too slick for this young Kerry side. Carlow added 1-3 without reply over the next four minutes, with the goal coming from Conor Kehoe after a super pass from Marty Kavanagh. Kerry, after Luke Crowley was fouled, saw Dylan Moriarty convert another free, but Carlow were relentless with Kavanagh adding points from a free and from play. Then in the sixteenth minute, Carlow struck for another goal, this time it was Paddy Boland who finished to the Kerry net. Paudie O'Connor got Kerry's first point from play in the sixteenth minute, but Kavanagh replied with two more fine efforts from play and despite another Moriarty free, Kerry were listing badly as they trailed 2-12 to 0-4 after twenty minutes. Two more Dylan Moriarty frees and a fine point from Oisin Maunsell was as much as Kerry could muster in the opening half, while Carlow continued to admire their handy work with a brace from Chris Nolan and a beauty from Paddy Boland. Carlow led 2-15 to 0-7 at half time and containment was probably their focus for the second half. The second saw Kerry fare better with the wind but Carlow remained in control with Chris Nolan adding another goal while Louis Dee denied them two more with superb saves from Chris Nolan and Ted Joyce. Kerry claimed three more points from the impressive Luke Crowley and substitute Shane Nolan, but the gulf in class was obvious and the Kingdom will be looking towards their final two games away to Down and at home to Westmeath to secure their Joe McDonagh status. Carlow make light work of Kerry in Tralee
A sobering afternoon for the Kerry hurlers as Carlow heaped a 19-point defeat on them and made it back to back wins for the Leinster county in this Joe McDonagh Cup at Austin Stack Park on Sunday afternoon. Carlow had opened their campaign with a 21-point win over Down, while Kerry had struggled to a one-point win away to Kildare, so there was an expectation that this might be a bridge too far for the Kingdom and so it transpired. Carlow had this contest very much put to bed by half time – playing with a stiff breeze – with goals from Conor Kehoe and Paddy Boland helping the visitors to a 14-point lead at the interval, 2-15 to 0-07. Chris Nolan got Carlow off the mark with a third minute point, and they were four ahead by the sixth minute before Dylan Moriarty's 20-metre free raised Kerry's first flag. A Carlow goal inevitably arrived when Martin Kavanagh's solo run split the Kerry defence, and he offloaded to his club mate, Kehoe, who shot low across Louis Dee's goal to make it 1-5 to 0-01. A second goal from Boland in the 16th minute made it 2-09 to 0-02, before Kerry scored their first point from play from midfielder Paudie O'Connor. Kavanagh converted a brace of points from play, and Moriarty brought his total for the half to five points (all from frees), while Chris Nolan (2) and Boland notched Carlow points to leave them 14 ahead at the break. The second half played out to its inevitable conclusion, with Carlow throttling back on their intensity but still able to win the second period by five points, helped by a third goal – scored by Chris Nolan in the 51st minute. Carlow scored three of the first four second half points, which put paid to any faint glimmer of a Kerry comeback, and Nolan's green flag made it 3-20 to 0-11 with 20 minutes to play. Kerry's silver linings came from three points apiece from play from Luke Crowley and sub Shane Nolan, while goalkeeper Dee denied the visitors another two goals with super saves on James Doyle and Ted Joyce. Carlow played the last minute with 14 men after Kavanagh was dismissed on a second yellow card, but they move on with two wins from two games, with Kildare next to visit Dr Cullen Park. Kerry's route doesn't get any easier as they are away to Laois in the third round.
