Ferryhill Athletic FC was awarded £450 through Ferryhill Town Council's Members Initiative Fund, which supports community groups and projects. Advertisement Councillor Joe Quinn, who presented the cheque, said: "I am only too pleased to be able to support Ferryhill Athletic FC. "It is great to see the team playing back in Ferryhill at their old ground, and I would like to wish them every success for the future." The funding will be used to purchase tracksuits for the team, helping to create a stronger sense of identity for the players. Chris Orton and Paul Gillham accepted the cheque on behalf of the club. Ferryhill Athletic FC was originally formed in 1921 and played in both the Northern League and Wearside League for more than 60 years before folding in 2006. The Members Initiative Fund was launched in April 2022 and has since contributed a total of £23,400 to various community projects. Funding is still available through the scheme.
