Steelers LS calls Mike Tomlin 'literally ruthless' despite being a player's coach

Many love to criticize Steelers HC Mike Tomlin for being a player's coach — but LS Christian Kuntz believes everyone has the wrong idea. On Thursday's Kaboly + Mack podcast, Kuntz argued that Tomlin is just as 'ruthless' as he is motivational: 'Everything that's said in the public, and the way he acts, is truly the way he acts in the locker room in front of us,' Kuntz said. 'Motivating, you know, he's gonna get it out of you. People call him a player's coach, and yeah, obviously he's a player's coach, 'cause you see how many guys want to come play with him. A player's coach, yes, but he's gonna get on your a--. He is gonna let you know about every single finer detail; he is going to call you out. If you're not doing your job, you're being held accountable.' Recently, Steelers legend James Harrison also weighed in on Tomlin's player's coach mentality — considering it both his best and worst quality. How Tomlin's ruthlessness will mesh with the Aaron Rodgers-led offense remains a mystery — but the Steelers are hopeful this union will finally end their postseason misfortune. Steelers countdown to kickoff — No. 46: a history of the number and who wore it best

The Steelers countdown to kickoff is here — and we're at 46 days until Pittsburgh faces off against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. In the spirit of the countdown, we're taking a look at the history of No. 46 and the players who wore it best. Current Steelers No. 46 wearer: LS Christian Kuntz Long snapper Christian Kuntz is the current No. 46 wearer on the Steelers. A vital part of the special teams unit, Kuntz has played in 68 games over his four-year NFL career in Pittsburgh and signed a three-year extension in March 2024. Last five Steelers to wear No. 46: Best No. 46 in Steelers history: RB Reggie Harrison No. 46 doesn't have the storied Steelers history of other historic jersey numbers — but the best to ever wear it was without a doubt RB Reggie Harrison. During his time in Pittsburgh from 1974 to 1977, Harrison played in 44 games over four seasons with the Steelers — winning two Super Bowls along the way. One of his greatest contributions came in Super Bowl X, when he blocked a punt against the Cowboys — resulting in a safety that cut the Cowboys' lead to 10–9. The Steelers would go on to win 21–17, thanks in part to that game-changing play. Harrison's career 631 rushing yards and eight touchdowns don't jump off the stat page — but it doesn't change the impact he's made for the Steel City-brand of football. 5 position battles to watch at Steelers training camp

With just a few days until the Steelers report to training camp on July 23, fans have several positional battles across offense, defense, and special teams to look forward to. Here are the five biggest starting roles up for grabs in Latrobe this summer. Long snapper Although not the flashiest position in the NFL, Steelers starting LS Christian Kuntz will attempt to fend off journeyman LS Tucker Addington — who signed with Pittsburgh in June. Free safety While all signs point to FS Juan Thornhill as the go-to replacement for ex-Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, an undrafted rookie could push the two-time Super Bowl champion for the starting role — none other than standout Iowa Hawkeye DB Sebastian Castro. Fullback Hybrid player Connor Heyward may have hinted at a full-time switch to fullback this offseason — but he first needs to beat out undrafted rookie FB DJ Thomas-Jones, a sleeper to make the 53-man roster. Punter After Steelers starting punter Cameron Johnston suffered a season-ending knee injury last season, Corliss Waitman stepped up in a big way for Pittsburgh. Only one punter will remain in the Steel City — but whether it's the now-healthy Johnston or the talented Waitman who takes the role remains to be seen. Running back Jaylen Warren's time to shine as the Steelers' lead rusher could be in jeopardy — as Pittsburgh drafted one of 2024's best college running backs in Kaleb Johnson. Training camp will serve as the first of many battles to decide whether or not Warren can fend off the rookie third-rounder — and a strong outing in Latrobe could decide the fate of the starting running back position. Report: Steelers expected to sign veteran LS Tucker Addington

The Steelers are expected to sign former Texans long snapper Tucker Addington — who was just released by Houston a few days ago — as reported by Aaron Wilson of KPRC. Since entering the NFL in 2022, Addington has played four games with the Patriots, three with the Commanders, and three with the Dolphins — potentially bringing just enough experience to compete with current Steelers LS Christian Kuntz for a roster spot. Advertisement Back in March, the Steelers brought in three long snappers for workouts: Peter Bowden, Matt Hembrough, and Sean Wracher. Since signing with the Steelers in 2021, Kuntz has served as the team's primary long snapper in every game Pittsburgh has played. Fans have another positional battle to watch at July's training camp, as 27-year-old Addington holds the age advantage over Kuntz — who just turned 31 — while the veteran Steelers long snapper clearly has the edge in experience.
