Officials identify suspect in Kentucky shootings at church and airport
The gunman officials say killed two women and wounded a state trooper in Kentucky on Sunday has been identified as 47-year-old Guy House, according to the Lexington Police Department. Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers said House shot a Kentucky State Police trooper on a terminal road at Blue Grass Airport at 11:36 a.m. The trooper pulled him over after receiving a license plate reader alert in the area. The trooper is receiving treatment, Weathers said. House then allegedly fled the area, and law enforcement caught up with him at Richmond Road Baptist Church about 16 miles away. There, House allegedly also opened fire and hit four people, Weathers said. Beverly Gumm, 72, and her daughter, Christina Combs, 32, were pronounced dead on the scene, according to Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn. Gumm was married to the church's pastor, public records indicate. Officers fatally shot House at the church, Weathers confirmed. Weathers said that preliminary information indicates House "may have had a connection to the individuals at the church." A motivation for the shootings remains unclear. The man accused of a shooting rampage Sunday at a rural Kentucky church after wounding a state trooper had been expected in court Monday for a domestic violence hearing, a local official said. Police say Guy House, 47, shot the trooper during a traffic stop near Lexington's airport, fled in a carjacked vehicle then opened fire at Richmond Road Baptist Church, killing two women and wounding two men before officers fatally shot him. House went to the church looking for the mother of his children but his domestic violence hearing did not involve her, the Lexington Heald-Leader reported, citing a sister of the woman, Rachael Barnes. Matt Ball, a deputy clerk for family court in Fayette County, confirmed to The Associated Press that House had been scheduled for the domestic violence hearing on Monday. Police say Beverly Gumm, 72, and Christina Combs, 34, were killed in the shooting. One of the wounded men was being treated for critical injuries and the other was in stable condition, police said. The trooper was in stable condition, police said. 'Preliminary information indicates that the suspect may have had a connection to the individuals at the church,' Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers said at a news conference Sunday. State Attorney General Russell Coleman said detectives with his office were ready to support local and state agencies. 'Today, violence invaded the Lord's House,' Coleman said in a statement. 2 women killed in Kentucky church shooting after gunman shot trooper, officials say
Two women were shot and killed at a Kentucky church after a suspect who shot and wounded a state trooper fled there, officials said Sunday. The two people who were killed were identified as Beverly Gum, 72, and Christina Combs, 32, the coroner said at a news conference. The suspect was also killed, Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers said. The suspect was later identified by the coroner as 47-year-old Guy House, who died from a gunshot wound at the church, CBS affiliate WKYT reported. Two others, both men, were wounded by the gunman, Weathers said. "One victim was reported to have sustained critical injuries, and the other was reported in stable condition," said Weathers. The state trooper was in stable condition, Lexington police said in a statement. Weathers said the shooter may have had a connection to the victims at the church. The police chief said the shooting began after the trooper pulled over a vehicle near the Blue Grass Airport in Lexington. After shooting the trooper before noon on Sunday, the suspect carjacked another vehicle and ended up at Richmond Road Baptist Church in southwest Lexington, state police said. No injuries were reported during the carjacking. The shooting spree ended when Lexington police shot and killed the suspect, authorities said. The trooper and two people who were wounded were being treated at a nearby hospital, the governor said.
