Club World Cup side confirm they want to sign £40m Chelsea outcast

Borussia Dortmund's sporting director says the club want to sign a Chelsea star this summer following the transfer of Jamie Gittens. Chelsea have been very busy this transfer window, spending £210million on seven new signings, including Gittens, Joao Pedro and Liam Delap. There could be even more incomings but the Blues also have many players they need to sell, some of whom they failed to offload last season. One of those is Carney Chukwuemeka who only moved to Stamford Bridge from Aston Villa three years ago in a deal worth around £15m. While it initially looked like he had a big future in west London, Enzo Maresca made it clear that the midfielder was not in his plans, playing him just five times and only once from the start. The 21-year-old was loaned out to Dortmund in January and has made 17 appearances for the German giants, albeit only two starts, scoring one goal. Chukwuemeka's loan came to an end over the weekend after Dortmund were knocked out of the Club World Cup by Real Madrid, who will now play PSG for a place in the final against either Chelsea or Fluminense. But despite his limited minutes, Dortmund like what they see in the young Englishman and the club's sporting director Sebastian Kehl has now stated their intention to re-sign him: 'Carney's loan ends today. 'That was what we agreed with Chelsea. Now, let's see. We will definitely have some more discussions in the next few days about his situation. 'I think it was a good move from Carney to join us. Now let's see how we manage everything. 'It won't be easy, but for sure we will try to keep him because he's a very good player. This topic is something for the future, and right now I don't know what will happen.' Chukwuemeka still has three years left on his contract and it is said Chelsea will not sell for below his £40m release clause. More Trending That may prove too step for the Bundesliga side who may offer to take the player back on loan first, potentially with an option or obligation to buy, and it is reported that talks over a transfer actually began back in May. Kehl has also explained why the transfer for Gittens was delayed, a blow for Chelsea as they wanted to sign him in time to play at the Club World Cup. 'We held many discussions with Chelsea in recent weeks. We refused an offer on June 10, but now we have found an agreement,' he added. 'Jamie wanted to make that next step, and Chelsea will get a very professional and highly motivated young player, who still has lots of potential. We built him for five years here at Dortmund. He's a great kid, and we wish him all the best.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Follow Metro Sport for the latest news on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Dortmund want to keep Chelsea's Chukwuemeka

Borussia Dortmund want to re-sign Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka next season, says sporting director Sebastian Kehl. Chukwuemeka, 21, came on for the last 15 minutes of Dortmund's dramatic 3-2 defeat by Real Madrid in the Club World Cup quarter-finals. Advertisement With his loan spell - which began in February - now over, Chukwuemeka will return to Stamford Bridge. "We will definitely have some more discussions in the next few days about his situation," said Kehl. "I think it was a good move from Carney to join us. Now let's see how we manage everything. It won't be easy, but we will try to keep him because he's a very good player." Chelsea are understood to want about £40m for a player they signed from Aston Villa in 2022. "It's always easier to loan a player than to buy one, especially within Carney's [price] range," said Kehl. Advertisement "But let's see. We are not that far advanced [in talks] at the moment, but I can tell you that we are pretty close to the player, and he loves Dortmund. "Everything else will be decided between Chelsea and us. That won't be tomorrow. That won't be on Tuesday. I think it will take some more days." Kehl also wished winger Jamie Gittens well after his £48.5m move to Chelsea. "We held many discussions with Chelsea in recent weeks," he said. "We refused an offer on June 10, but now we have found an agreement. Jamie wanted to make that next step, and Chelsea will get a very professional and highly motivated young player, who still has lots of potential. "We built him for five years here at Dortmund. He's a great kid, and we wish him all the best."

Dortmund's stance on loanee Chukwuemeka revealed

Loanee Carney Chukwuemeka missed Dortmund's 2-1 win over Monterrey on Tuesday night through illness but has Chelsea's permission to extend his loan until the end of the Club World Cup. The Blues will allow the midfielder to remain with the German giants, who next face Real Madrid in New Jersey's MetLife Stadium on Saturday. However, Chukwuemeka, who moved for £20m from Aston Villa in 2022, remains surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea prefer to sell, rather than loan out the 21-year-old in the longer term. Dortmund would happily keep Chukwuemeka beyond the Club World Cup but are reluctant to pay Chelsea's £40m asking price. They will wait to see if Chelsea's demand changes or whether it might be possible to re-sign Chukwuemeka on loan later in the likely means Chukwuemeka will return to Chelsea for at least a few weeks following this Club World Cup campaign.

Borussia Dortmund ‘confident' they can keep Carney Chukwuemeka

Borussia Dortmund secured their place in the last 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup with a 1-0 win against Ulsan HD on Wednesday night. Speaking after their narrow victory, Sebastian Kehl remains confident that they can keep Chelsea loanee Carney Chukwuemeka until the end of the tournament. The 21-year-old's loan deal at Dortmund expires at the end of the month and while it would be financially unfeasible for the Bundesliga side to sign Chukwuemeka on a permanent basis, BVB want to keep the English midfielder on loan for the duration of the Club World Cup. Advertisement 'I'm very confident we can do it,' BVB sporting director Kehl told reporters. 'We don't want to get any worse. That's why we'd like to keep him. Chelsea know that too.' Chukwuemeka has featured in all three games at the Club World Cup for Dortmund. According to FussballTransfers, a short-term loan agreement could be a part of the agreement that would see Jamie Gittens join Chelsea. GGFN | Daniel Pinder
