Legendary's Live-Action ‘Street Fighter' Movie Has Found Its Chun-Li

Legendary Pictures' live-action Street Fighter movie has tapped a relative industry newcomer, Callina Liang, to portray the fighting game icon Chun-Li. As reported by Deadline, the 25-year-old actress has signed on to star as the film's female lead. Liang made her television debut in 2022, playing Mei in the first series of ITVX's teen drama Tell Me Everything , then going on to star in two 2024 films: J.C. Lee's Thai directorial debut Bad Genius and Steven Soderbergh's supernatural thriller Presence . Callina Liang in Presence (2024) Liang joins the film's recently-reported stars Jason Momoa ( Aquaman ), Andrew Koji ( Bullet Train ), Roman Reigns ( Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw ) and Noah Centineo ( Warfare ), with Bad Trip's Kitao Sakurai as its director. Even though the film's plot remains under wraps, it will most likely follow the same premise as its 1987 Capcom fighting game source material, which centres around a global fighting tournament organised by M. Bison, the leader of the evil organisation Shadaloo. Chun-Li, one of the most recognisable icons in the gaming space, is an Interpol officer and skilled martial artist who made her debut in 1991's Street Fighter II , and is famous for her muscular legs and kick-based movesets, appearing in nearly all subsequent instalments of the series, leading up to 2023's Street Fighter 6 . Capcom and Legendary embarked on the latest attempt to bring the iconic Street Fighter series to life in April 2023, tapping into Talk to Me's Danny and Michael Philippou as its director duo at the time. However, these plans would fall apart a year later, with the brothers exiting the project due to scheduling conflicts. Legendary has since found a new director in Kitao Sakurai, known for The Eric Andre Show , Bad Trip and Twisted Metal . The Street Fighter film was originally slated to debut on 20 March 2026, but has since been pulled from Sony's 2026 release calendar, with no news on its updated release window. Kevin is a reformed PC Master Race gamer with a penchant for franchise 'duds' like Darksiders III and Dead Space 3 . He has made it his life-long mission to play every single major game release – lest his wallet dies trying. Callina Liang Capcom Chun-Li Legendary Pictures Street Fighter

Callina Liang Cast as Chun-Li in Legendary's Live-Action STREET FIGHTER Movie — GeekTyrant

Callina Liang is stepping into one of the most iconic roles in fighting game history. According to Deadline, the rising star of Steven Soderbergh's supernatural thriller Presence has been cast as Chun-Li in Legendary's upcoming live-action Street Fighter film. Chun-Li made her debut back in Street Fighter II in 1991, and quickly became a fan-favorite for her speed, combat style, and her story as an Interpol agent on a mission to take down M. Bison's criminal empire. Liang's addition brings a strong dramatic background to the role. She also appeared in the Apple TV+ series Foundation and the thriller Bad Genius from J.C. Lee. She joins a cast that already includes Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, Jason Momoa, Roman Reigns, Walton Goggins, and Orville Peck. Bad Trip director Kitao Sakurai is set to helm the project. There are still no details on the story that the film will tell, but as a longtime fan of the fighting game, it's hard not to be curious and excited about how this might turn out. I'm hoping for the best!

‘Fortnite' Is Bringing Back Its Famous Chun-Li Skin After Almost Three Years

Fortnite With as many skins as Fortnite has amassed since its inception, it can often take years for some to rotate back through the item shop, even with how much it's expanded over time. Now, one of the most coveted skins in Fortnite is returning, Chun-Li, of Street Fighter fame (as well as other fighters Ryu, Blanka, Guile, Sakura and Cammy). It has been almost three years since the original Street Fighter skins introduction, as we last saw the early additions like Chun-Li in August of 2022, making it almost three full years since they've been back in the shop. Now, she and the other skins will be back tonight at shop reset, which takes place at 8 PM EST. Why is the Fortnite community so passionate about Chun-Li specifically? Well, she's just an icon, of course! She's arguably the most famous face of a storied franchise, Street Fighter, even passing up Ryu in popularity. She's got a great, kick-based fighting style that's a lot of fun to play. It's humorous watching her shoot an assault rifle when normally she's a hand-to-hand fighter. There may even be some fans of the film version of the character, where she was played by Ming-Na Wen in the 1994 movie. There's another upcoming Street Fighter movie being made soon, but we don't know who will play Chun-Li there. Fortnite There's just a lot of love for Chun-Li, and fans are celebrating her return. It's heartwarming, really, and if you missed her three years ago, now's the time to scoop her up and pair her with whatever emotes you might think would be funny to use with her. It's not just the amount of skins, as there are often issues with rights and such among licensed skins that have to be worked out. Deals may have been made for these skins to run for a set period of time, but getting them back in the store may require another such deal, which may or may not be worth it to other parties. But it seems like Epic and Capcom worked something out here, which is good news for Street Fighter fans and Chun-Li lovers everywhere. Get out that wallet and be ready to shell out for her tonight.
