Perpetual star KC Andrade joins powerhouse Cignal in Spikers' Turf

KC Andrade is taking his winning attitude to the next level as he joined a star-studded Cignal HD Spikers team in the 2025 Spikers' Turf competition. The former University of Perpetual Help System DALTA middle blocker is the latest addition to the HD Spikers alongside other recruits in opposite spiker Jayrack Dela Noche, outside hitter Vince Maglinao, and Filipino-Canadian libero Lhexen Rabit. Andrade is a proven winner in college, helping the ALTAs clinch a historic four-peat title run in NCAA Season 99, where he was named Best Middle Blocker together with Letran's Vince Himzon. In the previous Season 100, Andrade and the ALTAs finished joint fifth with an identical 10-8 record with San Beda University. 'We're looking to continue to build on the Cignal HD brand of excellence for men's volleyball,' said HD Spikers head coach Dexter Clamor. "Kami nga yung pinakamatagal na pro squad here sa Philippines and we're always looking for ways to improve. Hopefully, with these new additions, we'll be ready to defend our crown in the upcoming conferences." Photo courtesy of Cignal At Cignal, the 24-year-old Andrade will reunite with his former Perpetual teammate and ex-NCAA MVP Louie Ramirez as they look to continue Cignal's winning formula next season. Andrade, Dela Noche, Maglinao, and Rabit will bolster an already-stacked Cignal roster that features the likes of Bryan Bagunas, JP Bugaoan, Lloyd Josafat, Joshua Retamar, and Joshua Umandal. Cignal is coming off a third straight title in the Open Conference after outlasting rival Criss Cross last April. ?—Bea Micaller/JMB, GMA Integrated News

Creamline, Cignal off to 2-0 start in PVL On Tour

Creamline and Cignal made strong early impressions in the PVL On Tour, going unbeaten through two games after dispatching separate foes on Monday at the Chavit Coliseum in Ilocos Sur. The Cool Smashers recovered from a Set 2 loss en route to a 27-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-18 win over Akari behind an all-around outing from team captain Alyssa Valdez. The seasoned outside spiker dropped 16 points anchored on 13 attacks, two aces, and one block together with 18 receptions to help Creamline surge to a 2-0 start following their dominant three-set victory over Capital1 yesterday. "Syempre happy kami na kahit back-to-back 'yung games namin. Kasi first time na nangyari sa'min na magkasunod na araw, siguro marami pa kaming i-improve," Creamline head coach Sherwin Meneses said. "Sana magtuloy-tuloy 'yung maganda laro namin." Creamline flexed its muscle early in Set 4 in bid to close out the Chargers with Michele Gumabao unleashing back-to-back hammers from the right wing to give the Cool Smashers a 19-11 lead. Akari fought back with Eli Soyud and rookie Chenie Tagaod slicing the gap to five, 15-20. But a service error from Soyud and a Jema Galanza denial on a running attack from Ced Domingo saw Creamline taking a 23-16 cushion. Akari once again tried to mount a comeback with two straight points, including a drop ball hit from Grethcel Soltones, but the latter was then rejected by Pangs Panaga on the next play that allowed Creamline to clinch the match point at 24-18. A successful floor touch challenge, meanwhile, by Creamline sealed the four-set romp. Earlier, Cignal cruised to yet another sweep victory after blanking the struggling Capital1 side, 25-21, 25-22, 25-16, behind a total team effort. Erika Santos continued her fine performance with 11 points while middle blocker Roselyn Doria-Aquino churned out 10 markers as they improved to a 2-0 slate in Pool B. With their losses, Capital1 and Akari both slid to 0-2. —JMB, GMA Integrated News

Cignal launches 'Pilipinas Live Shorts'

Powered by Quickplay Shorts, Cignal is bringing exclusive short-form videos and UGC to its platform to enhance the fan experience TORONTO, April 29, 2025 /CNW/ - Quickplay today announced that Cignal's new Pilipinas Live Shorts service, available to millions of Pilipinas Live users, is utilizing its recently launched Quickplay Shorts product to support its launch. Strengthening its position as a leading destination for sports content, Pilipinas Live Shorts will use Quickplay Shorts to identify, clip and verticalize short-form video content from VOD and Live-to-VOD assets and to enable an infinite vertical scroll, social-like experience. The tool also enables influencers to create and post user-generated content (UGC) within that feed - all monitored by Quickplay's moderation tools. The recent Deloitte 2025 Digital Media Trends study found that Gen Z respondents spend 54% more time per day on social media platforms and watching UGC than the average consumer; and 26% less time than the average person watching TV and movies. And Quickplay's recent study, with Gen Z Insights, showed that nearly 71% of Gen Z consumers discover content through social platforms. The Quickplay Shorts tool brings new velocity to short-form content creation - a highly sought after capability for broadcasters exploring new reach and engagement strategies - for publication into owned and third party platforms. An "owned" experience, like that of Pilipinas Live Shorts, supported by Quickplay's plug-in SDK, allows consumers to discover new content in a social friendly, infinite scroll format, while providing Cignal more data to inform customer acquisition, engagement and retention strategies. With Pilipinas Live Shorts expansion into UGC, the platform is adding a layer of engagement that gives influencers and athletes the ability to record videos, add filters, emojis, text, etc. and publish with 'one-click;' offering fans more opportunities to engage with their favorite sports celebrity and community. "Cignal continues to lead the industry in driving innovative consumer experiences for their consumers and sports fans. Pilipinas Live Shorts will drive captivating highlights and social content that helps them build a daily habit with consumers with their apps and content ecosystem," said Paul Pastor, Co-Founder and Chief Business Officer, Quickplay. "All of this translates into better business outcomes with greater consumer affinity translating into better retention and monetization opportunities." "Delivering relevant, short-form content is a game-changer for us - especially when it comes to UGC. With Quickplay Shorts, we have the power to deliver quick, impactful moments—whether it's game highlights, exclusive behind-the-scenes access, or real-time reactions" says Gerard Milan, CRO, Cignal. "The launch of Pilipinas Live Shorts gives us more opportunities to keep fans connected to their sports icons anytime, anywhere, and we're excited to extend our partnership with Quickplay for this thrilling next chapter." As part of a comprehensive content strategy, Pilipinas Live Shorts leverages content from the top professional local leagues like the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP), and other major sporting events, making its library of sports streaming entertainment more broad and diverse than any other streamer in the region. By integrating interactive elements and fostering influencer-driven content (UGC), Pilipinas Live Shorts will empower athletes like Vanie Gandler, Fifi Sharma, and Pauline Lopez among other stars, and fans, to create and share content, driving deeper engagement within the sports community.
