Oklahoma Sooners future nonconference schedules

Schedules have been a major talking point over the last few weeks as the Power Four conferences have met for their annual media days. The SEC has discussed moving to nine conference games, but head coaches and school administrators don't seem all that interested. Greg Sankey spoke last week in Atlanta about the potential to move to nine conference games, but has argued it doesn't make sense with the SEC's strength of schedule. The Big Ten began politicking on Tuesday as Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti took a shot at the SEC for only playing eight league games. The Hoosiers dropped a nonconference matchup with Virginia, leaving the 2024 Cinderella with a nonconference slate that features Old Dominion, Kennesaw State, and FCS Indiana State. The three teams combined for an 11-25 record in 2024, buoyed by Indiana State's 5-7 record last year. This year, Indiana plays just three teams that had a winning record in 2024. Schedules aren't always going to be equitable, and that's why it's important to take into account strength of schedule metrics. Are they perfect? Nope. But short of a 64-team playoff (once proposed by the great Mike Leach), you're going to have a hard time finding the right mix of teams for the College Football Playoff. But with nonconference schedules top of mind, I thought it would be fun to take a look at Oklahoma's future nonconference matchups. 2025 - Michigan comes to Norman The headliner this year is the Michigan game. Facing the Wolverines in Norman is the biggest nonconference game inside Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium since Ohio State came to Norman back in 2016. 2026 - Oklahoma to The Big House Oklahoma makes the return trip to Michigan to complete its home-and-home series in what will be one of the biggest games of the nonconference schedule. With the SEC unlikely to move to a nine-game conference schedule, Oklahoma will need to add another game for 2026 to get to 12 games. 2027 - Pac-12 returns to Norman When these games were scheduled, all three of these teams were in different conferences. SMU has joined the ACC and Utah State and San Diego State have joined the Pac-12. This isn't your dad's or even your older brother's Pac-12 as it has been comprised of former Mountain West teams. SMU was a playoff participant in 2024. Their name, image, and likeness game will surely have Rhett Lashlee and the Mustangs a threat moving forward. The Mustangs fulfill the SEC's requirement of playing a Power Four opponent. 2028 - Facing Keisean Henderson On the surface, there doesn't look to be a marquee matchup here, but don't sleep on what Houston's building under Willie Fritz. They landed five-star quarterback Keisean Henderson in the 2026 recruiting class. He's the No. 2 player in the cycle and will provide a test for the Oklahoma defense. 2029 - Big 8 Rivalry Renewed The Oklahoma Sooners trip to San Diego would likely open the season, which would be a refreshing road trip to face the Aztecs. The last time Oklahoma made the trip to San Diego, they lost 51-31 to the Aztecs. That will certainly be a big talking point in the build up to the game. Oklahoma will welcome Nebraska back to town for the first leg of a home-and-home series vs. their old Big 8 and Big 12 rival. The Sooners won both meetings of their last home-and-home, with Spencer Rattler and Dillon Gabriel picking up wins over the Cornhuskers. Notable is that the Oklahoma State Cowboys only have two nonconference games scheduled in 2029. Could Bedlam return for good starting this season? 2030 - Returning to Memorial Stadium The last time the Oklahoma Sooners made the trip to Memorial Stadium to take on the Cornhuskers, OU dominated in a 49-14 rout. Eric Gray ran for over 100 yards and two touchdowns and Dillon Gabriel totaled 285 yards and three touchdowns in the win. 2031 - Aztecs come to Norman Sept. 6 vs. San Diego State Though Oklahoma's 1-1 all-time against San Diego State, the Sooners defended their home field in 1995 with a 38-22 win over San Diego State. This is the first season that the Oklahoma Sooners don't have a Power Four opponent on the schedule. You know it'll be someone good. 2032 - Nothing Scheduled Every decade or so, the college football landscape goes through a major shift. Could this see another realignment that changes college football once again? 2033 - In-State Matchup Sept. 3 vs. Tulsa Tulsa always makes for a nice nonconference opponent. It's not a stretch travel wise for either club and it generates a little in-state buzz — certainly not as much as if Oklahoma were playing the Cowboys. 2034 - Nothing Scheduled This year feels ripe for another historic nonconference matchup between Oklahoma and a power team. Maybe Bedlam? 2035 - Facing the Tigers What's interesting about this matchup is all of the Clemson ties Oklahoma has. But a decade out, there's no telling what the two coaching staffs will look like. Here's hoping it's a Brent Venables vs. Dabo Swinney matchup because that means things go pretty well for the Sooners over the next 10 years. Making the trip to Death Valley will be a lot of fun regardless of what the coaching staffs look like. 2036 - Dabo comes to town? If Dabo Swinney is still coaching, welcoming him to Norman would feel a lot like legendary Nebraska head coach Tom Osborne coming to town. The best women's sneakers for wide feet, according to podiatrists

If you have wide feet, you are likely no stranger to the feeling of tightness and pinching that comes from a new pair of shoes.. But having wide feet shouldn't stop you from having your Cinderella moment. You may just need to focus on sneakers that have a wide width to find the perfect running or walking shoe. 'The right shoe will feel comfortable, provide adequate space for your toes to move freely, and support your foot's natural shape and alignment,' says Dr. Isaac Tabari, a board-certified foot and ankle doctor and owner of the NYC Podiatry Center of Excellence. Thankfully, there are plenty of sneaker brands — like New Balance, Hoka and Brooks — that make shoes specifically for people with wide feet. I interviewed podiatrists and included their picks along with highly-rated options and NBC Select staff recommendations that come in wide widths. Want more from NBC Select? Sign up for our newsletter, The Selection, and shop smarter. How I picked the best sneakers for women with wide feet 'A wide width shoe offers more room throughout the entire shoe — including the toe box, midsole and heel,' says Tabari. But with so many wide width sneakers on the market, it can be tough to know what to focus on when shopping. Here are the things podiatrists suggest paying close attention to: Support: The whole point of getting shoes wide enough for your feet is to make sure they're comfortable. So along with width look for shoes with arch support and a cushioned sole, says Tabari. You can also keep an eye out on whether or not the shoes are wide enough to accommodate orthotic inserts or insoles should you need them. 'These features can help prevent injuries such as plantar fasciitis or stress fractures,' says Tabari. Materials: Since the material of the shoes can impact your comfort, look for options with a flexible upper like knit or mesh. This will provide more room for wide feet to move and will prevent you from feeling restricted in your sneakers. Toe box: Some sneakers have more of a pointed toe. Podiatrists recommend avoiding these if you have wide feet, as they may pinch around your toes. Instead, look for shoes with a round, square or wide toe box. This will allow you the space you need for your toes to splay and spread without rubbing against the side of your sneakers and potentially causing blisters, says Dr. Alissa Kuizinas, a board-certified podiatrist in Boston. To recommend the best women's wide sneakers for running and/or walking, I asked podiatrists to share their favorites and included NBC Select staff favorites that come in wide width, along with a few highly rated options. I have wide feet and these are my go-to sneakers — I've run multiple half marathons and they have never felt tight or constrictive. Hoka is known for its shock-absorbing soles and supportive uppers. The toe box is nearly as wide as the rest of the shoe, so your toes have plenty of room to splay out. The shoe's bottom has a rocker shape for smoother heel-to-toe transitions and the upper is made from breathable mesh, according to the brand. This shoe is also available in a version for men. Featured in our roundup of the best walking shoes, this style from Ryka comes in a wide width and is an NBC Select staff favorite. 'I've never had dedicated walking shoes before, and this pair from Ryka showed me just how much of a difference they can make,' says Sadhana Daruvuri, former NBC Select social editor. She wears them while walking her dog, in the park or around New York City to run errands. 'Even when I'm in them for hours, my feet still feel cushioned and comfortable.' The lace-up sneakers are specifically designed around the shape of women's feet, so the brand gave them a narrower heel, a roomy toe box and soft cushioning in the midsole. They also have a grippy rubber outsole, arch support built into the insole and extra cushioning in the forefoot and heel. At under $100, these sneakers are an affordable wide width option. They have a breathable mesh upper and gel technology in the heel to provide extra cushioning and comfort, according to the brand. The shoe, which has a 4.4-star average rating from over 400 reviews on Amazon, also has deep treads, making it a good running shoe for various environments — like parks, streets and trails. Skechers' slip-on walking sneakers are one of the more affordable options on my list and have a 4.5-star average rating from nearly 100,000 reviews on Amazon. They have a mesh upper so your feet don't get sweaty, lightweight cushioning and come in narrow, medium and wide widths. The sneakers also have flexible, grippy outsoles and memory foam insoles. Though these sneakers don't technically come in a wide width, NBC Select SEO editor Nikki Brown vouches for the fact that they work on wider feet. 'My feet are very flat and wide and these shoes leave lots of room for my toes,' she says. 'I love how sturdy they feel for workouts and casual walks and the fact that they're also stylish is a major plus.' The molded heel offers support and the breathable upper is lightweight, according to Nike. Like the running shoes from New Balance on my list, these walking sneakers come in wide and extra wide widths. They have a stylish vintage look, in my opinion, but deliver on comfort, too. They have a padded footbed and rubber sole for traction. They are also reinforced around the ankle for extra support as you walk, according to the brand. Best for overpronators Another pick from our best walking shoes roundup, these shoes are a supportive stability shoe that help people who overpronate. The sneaker has a light, springy feel, according to the brand, a cushioned insole and a rubber outsole. Not only does this shoe come in wide widths, it is available in an extra wide width, too. The shoe also has a leather upper that looks crisp and is highly durable, according to Saucony. Tabari likes New Balance sneakers for those with wide feet because they offer both a wide width and an extra wide width. These sneakers have the brand's Fresh Foam X midsole to provide extra cushioning without increasing the weight of the shoe, according to the brand. They have a rocker profile to propel you forward and a rubber sole for traction. The shoe also goes up to a size 13 for those with larger feet. These shoes don't technically come in a wide width, but they are designed with a wide toe box, says Kuizinas. Similar to the sneakers from Hoka, these have a rocker-shaped sole that helps to propel you forward as you run and the soles are made with compression foam for comfort. The upper is made with a flexible and breathable mesh material. Most durable This sneaker made our list of best running shoes thanks to the durability of its carbon rubber outer and cushioned sole. The shoe comes in both regular and wide widths and goes up to a size 12. The heel of this shoe contains Mizuno's energy foam, which provides cushioning and energy return, according to the brand. The upper is seamless to prevent rubbing and friction as you move. What happens when shoes aren't wide enough for your feet? When your shoes aren't wide enough to accommodate your feet, a number of problems can arise. First, you'll likely get blisters where the shoe rubs against your feet. Shoes that are too narrow can also put unnecessary pressure on your feet. 'Wide shoes provide more room for the toes to spread out naturally, reducing pressure and friction on the toes and forefoot,' says Tabari. 'Tight shoes can restrict blood flow to the toes, leading to discomfort and even potential circulation issues.' Other issues caused by shoes that aren't wide though include ingrown toenails, bunions and cramping. When walking or running in shoes that are too narrow for your feet, you may also start overcompensating to avoid discomfort, says Kuizinas. This can lead to back pain, rolling your ankle or a number of other injuries. How to tell if your shoes are too narrow Not sure if your sneakers are wide enough for your feet? 'If you experience any rubbing on the big toe or pinky, your shoes are too narrow,' says Kuizinas. 'You should be able to wiggle your toes properly in your shoe.' Another area where people commonly notice discomfort in narrow shoes is across the middle of the foot. If your foot feels cramped or the upper feels too tight there, you need a wider width. Musical Series Based on Cinderella's Godparents in the Works at Disney+ With Jennifer Lopez Producing — GeekTyrant

A musical limited series based on Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella has landed at Disney+, from Skydance Television, Concord Originals and Nuyorican. The project is in development, and it's reported that the story is from the perspective of the fairy godparents. The series is being written by Rachel Shukert, who is attached as EP and showrunner. The UTA repped Shukert is an EP on Hulu's Nine Perfect Strangers , as well as an EP on the streamer's Handmaid's Tale , and the showrunner of Netflix's The Baby-Sitters Club . In addition to Shukert, Jennifer Lopez, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina for Nuyorican Productions; Sophia Dilley, EVP of Concord Originals and Co-President of RKO, and former Concord CEO, Scott Pascucci; and Bill Bost will also executive produce. Skydance Television has a pact with Concord to develop a slate of original projects on the latter's vast catalog of musicals which includes Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella, and a modern-day adaptation of Oklahoma! from John Lee Hancock and Bekah Brunstetter. Cinderella is one of Rodgers & Hammerstein's most popular titles. It was originally written for television, debuting in 1957 with Julie Andrews in the lead. The TV movie was nominated for an Emmy Award for her performance. More than 100 million viewers saw the broadcast. Cinderella was re-made for TV in 1965 starring Lesley Ann Warren in the title role with Ginger Rogers and Walter Pidgeon as the King and Queen, and Celeste Holm as the Fairy Godmother. A further television remake followed in 1997 with Brandy as Cinderella, Whitney Houston as the Fairy Godmother, Bernadette Peters as the Stepmother, Whoopi Goldberg as the Queen, and Jason Alexander as Lionel. via: Deadline

Winner Takes All: Ty Gibbs, Ty Dillon Battle for $1M in NASCAR Tournament

Denny Hamlin earned the No. 1 seed for NASCAR's inaugural in-season tournament— and was promptly eliminated in the first race by Ty Dillon, the No. 32 seed. Now, Dillon faces Ty Gibbs this weekend at Indianapolis to decide the first winner of the tournament and the $1 million prize that comes with it. Hamlin said the five-race, bracket-style tournament overall was a success — but not without a few kinks. Some of the seeding was off, such as Shane van Gisbergen not qualifying for the field, then ripping off consecutive wins on the Chicago street race and Sonoma Raceway during the tournament races. And sure, everyone loves a Cinderella in March. But two in July isn't necessarily making the tournament the NASCAR story of the summer. "I think it has been unfortunate, right, you probably had a lot of the top seeds get knocked out pretty early in it, but overall, I thought the implementation of it has been good," Hamlin said. The other side of the argument is this: Would any fan or media outlet really care about a pair of winless drivers such as Gibbs (the sixth seed) or Dillon at this point of the season without $1 million at stake? "For a team like us, at this point in the season, we're not exactly where we want to be yet, but we're trending in a good direction," Dillon said Sunday at Dover. "Our story doesn't get told in years past. It's mainly the guys trying to fight for the points position. It's the guys running up front, trying to win the race. But our story and our growth in the year stops getting told. I'm grateful we've been able to show our personality as a team." Unlike the All-Star race where the winner pockets $1 million, the driver with the best finish earns the cash prize, a ring, jackets and a trophy. Dillon had luck on his side during his run, with his lone top-10 finish coming in the first race in Atlanta. He advanced in that race after Hamlin crashed out and finished 31st. Dillon twice has finished 20th, including at Dover. He has a best finish of 13th in five career races on the Indy oval. Gibbs, the grandson of team owner and football and NASCAR Hall of Famer Joe Gibbs, and Dillon have failed to win in a combined 374 Cup races. Dillon has only two career top-five finishes in a career that dates to 2014. The 22-year-old Gibbs has a much better pedigree, winning the 2022 Xfinity Series title, a series in which he was a 12-time winner. He has six top 10s already this season and could make NASCAR's playoffs on points. Gibbs has three straight top 10s in the tournament, including a fifth-place finish at Dover. Gibbs finished 23rd on the Indy oval last season. He's done enough to impress his grandfather. "There's some people there that we got off to a terrible start, it was awful, (but) I had people on that group that came to me encouraging me, ideas for me, after it. I think they care for Ty. It just was a huge deal," the 84-year-old Gibbs said. "This sport will really measure you. But those guys have fought back." Reporting by The Associated Press.

18 Films With Realistic Endings

We all love a fairytale ending every now and then. But sometimes, we just want the real thing. No last-minute miracles, no rom-com reconciliations at an airport — just raw and real conclusions. Over on r/Cinema, movie lovers are sharing the films that didn't have a classic Hollywood ending. Here are 18 of the best responses. "Monsters University. They make an all-or-nothing 'pie in the sky' gamble, fail, and lose everything. Next, there's a montage of them doing the hard work, and it slowly pays off with gradual success." "La La Land ends like real life does sometimes: with the right people at the wrong time. No dramatic reunion, no last-minute fix. Just two people who loved each other, chased their dreams, and ended up waving from opposite sides of the finish line. It's messy, kinda beautiful, and way too familiar." "Marriage Story. I watched it during the beginning of my divorce, hoping for the Hollywood happy ending. It turned out way too much like real life!" "Uncut Gems was one of the most stressful movies to watch. You see Sandler's character dig his own grave step by when we get our ending, it's like: 'Damn! The mob don't fuck around.' I expected broken bones, but we definitely got something closer to what probably happens in reality." "Anora. Super realistic ending in a Cinderella story that I was not expecting." "Anora. Super realistic ending in a Cinderella story that I was not expecting." "Requiem for a Dream. This movie fundamentally changed me as a human. I felt different after watching it." "Manchester by the Sea. The fact that he didn't end up taking custody after everything is more realistic." "The Big Short. I like the way they made a mock summary about how everything changed. The banks got regulated and the responsible people got punished, only to reveal that this is America..." "Reservoir Dogs. It's the only movie I can think of where literally everyone dies in the end." "Denzel Washington's Flight. He's humbled himself before the world, got sober, and is happily doing his time in prison. But his young son confronts him at the end, insisting that he tells the truth about himself." "The Mist. It's a nasty ending and I hate it, but I do have to admit that it's pretty accurate as to what could happen in real life." "Coach Carter. Incredible movie. Just the message that you can have all the skills and popularity, but it doesn't translate to success. With all that hard work you put in, you still have to learn how to lose. That losing can be heartbreaking, especially when you give it your all." "8 Mile. By the end, he wins a rap battle tournament and everybody starts to respect him more. But there's no cliché where some guy waiting outside offers him a record deal or a life-changing opportunity. Right after the battle, Jimmy goes back to his late-night shift at work, he then bids his friends goodbye, and life goes on." "Friday Night Lights. Not many teams lose at the end of sports movies." "The Break-Up. I honestly thought they'd get back together, despite the title of the movie." "No Country for Old Men. No wild underdog story, no 'handsome protagonist getting the happy ending.' It's bleak, dark, and violent: exactly like what would happen if someone got wrapped up in cartel violence. IMO, a masterpiece of a film." "Seven. The bad guy is dead but it feels like he won. Morgan Freeman's closing quote really frames the bleakness." "Marley & Me. A realistic depiction of owning a hyperactive Labrador until they break your fucking heart by leaving you. That moment where he closes his eyes. I wept buckets." After reading all of these, I'm starting to think I might prefer realistic endings over Hollywood ones. And now? I have a serious watchlist to catch up on.🍿🍿 Do you know a movie that ends in a real, un-Hollywood way? Drop it in the comments or share it anonymously in the form below!
