Citroën Basalt's entry ticket to South Africa approved for 2026

Image: Citroën India Reported towards the end of last year as being under consideration for South Africa, Citroën parent company, Stellantis, formerly confirmed the arrival of the Basalt at its annual Media Connect event in Johannesburg earlier this year from next year. Fastback flagship Set to become the third Indian assembled and developed model to be sold locally after the C3 and C3 Aircross, the fastback coupe-styled Basalt will make its debut in the early part of the new year, and become the brand's de facto flagship. Drive is routed to the front wheels only. The standard transmission option is a five-speed manual for the former, with the latter offering either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. Spec sheet In terms of specification, and depending on the trim grade, the Basalt can be had with 16-inch alloy wheels, a seven-inch digital instrument cluster, automatic air-conditioning with rear vents, leatherette seats, a 10.2-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless smartphone charger and a six-speaker sound system. Included further are folding electric mirrors, a multi-function steering wheel, three USB ports, keyless entry, front and rear armrests, and remote engine start. Image: Citroën India On the safety and driver assistance side, and again depending on the trim level, the Basalt features six airbags, cruise control, a tyre pressure monitor, a reverse camera and rear parking sensors, Hill Hold Assist and Electronic Stability Control. In total, five mono-tone colours are available in India; Polar White, Platinum Grey, Steel Grey, Cosmo Blue and Garnet Red. A dual-tone finish, involving the former and latter hues being contrasted by a black roof, can be had as an option. Citroën India has unveiled the new C3 Sport Edition, priced at ₹ 6.44 lakh (ex-showroom). Available in limited numbers, this special edition adds a dose of youthful energy to the standard C3, blending enhanced styling, sport-themed accessories, and a bold new paint option aimed at urban drivers who favour individuality and a dynamic presence on the road. The C3 Sport Edition commands a premium of ₹ 21,000 over the regular variants and is also available with an optional 'Tech Kit', priced at ₹ 15,000. This additional pack includes a dashcam and wireless charger, catering to tech-savvy consumers who prioritise convenience and safety. The exterior of the C3 Sport Edition is marked by bespoke 'SPORT' decals that accentuate its limited-edition identity. The most striking addition is the Garnet Red paint scheme, introduced for the first time in the C3 range. This vivid new colour enhances the car's street presence and distinguishes it from the standard offerings. Further visual enhancements include race-inspired pedals, custom seat covers, and seatbelt cushions, all of which contribute to a sportier cabin ambience. Ambient lighting has also been added to elevate the overall in-car experience, particularly during night drives. Inside, the C3 Sport Edition features several comfort-focused and aesthetic upgrades. The sport-inspired seat covers and floor mats reinforce its youthful appeal, while the seatbelt cushions offer additional comfort for longer journeys. The ambient lighting adds a layer of sophistication to an otherwise practical cabin. These additions sit alongside existing features such as an 8-inch infotainment screen with smartphone connectivity, offering a connected and urban-friendly driving experience. Mechanically, the C3 Sport Edition remains unchanged and is offered with the same pair of petrol engines as the standard C3. The entry-level 1.2-litre PureTech 82 engine delivers 81 bhp and 115 Nm of torque, paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. For those seeking more performance, the turbocharged 1.2-litre PureTech 110 engine produces 108 bhp and 205 Nm of torque. This variant is available with either a six-speed manual or an automatic transmission, and is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in a claimed 10 seconds. Fuel efficiency across the range varies from 18.3 to 19.3 km/l, depending on the engine and gearbox configuration.

While online bookings for the Citroën C3 CNG are not available, prospective buyers can have the kits installed for an additional cost of ₹ 93,000 at authorized Citroën dealerships throughout the country. The CNG kits will be exclusively available for the Live, Feel, Feel(O), and Shine variants, all equipped with the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine. The C3 CNG is designed to reduce operating costs and emissions while preserving the comfort, performance, and unique style of the C3. Owners will have the option to switch between petrol and CNG using a dedicated button. Citroën assures that the CNG kits will be installed without hindering access to the spare wheel, although there will be a reduction in boot space due to the tank. The S6 model will follow shortly after the C6's introduction. All forthcoming electric motorcycles will be marketed under the Flying Flea brand. At this time, Royal Enfield has yet to determine whether these new electric vehicles will utilize the existing dealership network or if new dealerships will be established exclusively for the Flying Flea brand. The company has assembled a specialized team of over 200 individuals dedicated to the Flying Flea initiative.
