Muscat — The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth today organized a dialogue session titled 'Culture, Library Sciences, and Sustainable Development" as part of the 'Civilizational Horizons" programme. The session addressed the challenges libraries face in the wake of the digital revolution and the widespread use of the internet, exploring how libraries have adapted to these transformations to provide reliable information beyond geographical constraints. It also highlighted their growing role in supporting education, scientific research, and innovation. The discussion touched on the strong connection between culture, library sciences, and information, emphasising the role of libraries as cultural institutions that have historically enriched human civilisation while promoting values of pluralism, tolerance, and freedom of expression. The session also shed light on the vital role libraries play in achieving sustainable development goals by organising knowledge and managing vast intellectual output through smart systems that keep pace with technological advancements. Additionally, the session explored how libraries contribute to advancing artificial intelligence models, leveraging their extensive databases, and their role in training users to utilize these technologies to produce reliable and well-researched content. Discussions also covered the state of library and information sciences in the Sultanate of Oman, the national information strategy, and digital transformation under 'Oman Vision 2040", along with key challenges facing the library sector in the country. The session further reviewed investment opportunities in cultural and creative industries and the role of libraries in this field.

Ministry of Culture organises symposium on Educational Sciences, Sustainable Development

Muscat: The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth on Monday organised a symposium titled "Culture, Sciences (Educational Sciences) and Sustainable Development" at the Literary Forum Hall in Muscat Governorate. The symposium featured Dr. Saif Nasser Al Maamari, Professor of Curriculum and Teaching Methods at Sultan Qaboos University's College of Education, with Dr. Huda bint Nasser Al Busaidi moderating the event. Held as part of the "Civilizational Horizons" programme – one of the Literary Forum's initiatives aimed at promoting cultural and intellectual discourse – the symposium provided a platform for discussion and exchange of expertise among intellectuals and cultural stakeholders in Oman. Discussions focused on the interrelationships between culture, science, and sustainable human development concepts, tracing their evolution across various cultural and social contexts. Particular emphasis was placed on Oman's experience over the past five decades and the role of natural, social, and human sciences in achieving sustainable human development goals. The symposium specifically examined educational sciences, analysing their modern integration into Oman's context, their interaction with local values and knowledge systems, and their contribution to sustainable human development efforts. Discussions highlighted education's priority status in "Oman Vision 2040" and related sectoral strategies, while exploring the influence of local culture on education and scientific research in Oman. Notably, the Civilizational Horizons programme supports scientific research, creativity, innovation, and knowledge economy development, aligning with objectives of the 2021-2040 Cultural Strategy. These include strategic priorities encompassing "Citizenship, Identity, Heritage and National Culture" and "Education, Learning, Scientific Research and National Capabilities."
