Why Walker signing ‘excited' Parker ahead of Premier League return

Scott Parker reckons Kyle Walker's quality and experience can be key for his young Burnley squad next season. The England international has signed a two-year deal at Turf Moor as the Clarets prepare for their Premier League return. Advertisement Walker played with Parker at Tottenham Hotspur and the defender went on to win six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and a Champions League with Manchester City. He has also won 96 England caps to date and spent the second half of last season on loan at Italian giants AC Milan. Parker says Walker's talent was obvious when the pair played together and hailed the 35-year-old's 'remarkable' achievements in the game. He insists the defender is now 'relishing' the challenge of helping the Clarets stay in the Premier League next season. 'I played with Kyle as quite a young player at Spurs and obviously I was at the other end of my career really,' Parker told Sky Sports. Advertisement 'I saw his talent and certainly what he has gone onto achieve is nothing short of remarkable and fully deserved. 'Like anything, when there is an opportunity of Kyle's quality and ability, and we're in the race for that, it was one that excited me. 'I think the biggest thing I can say to Kyle is the challenges he speaks about. This is a guy who every season has had a challenge. 'That challenge is probably different now but, the feeling he gives me and I know him, it is a challenge he is absolutely relishing. 'I think what gets a human being up every morning is knowing there is a challenge ahead. No doubt, Kyle could have had other opportunities but I think the challenge of this next thing for him is what gets him out of bed. Advertisement 'It's one he is going to engage with, drive and push every ounce of himself to try and get us to be successful this year. 'Of course, the quality is there and what he has achieved. I hope he brings every bit of that into this young squad and pushes us as far as we can go really.'
