Miami Hurricanes' recruiting surge continues with commitment from top tight end

The Miami Hurricanes' recruiting push continued on Tuesday, with UM receiving a commitment from one of the nation's top tight end recruits in Israel Briggs. Briggs is a four-star prospect out of Visalia (California) Redwood High and is listed as the No. 7 tight end in the Class of 2026 by the 247Sports composite ranking. He chose Miami over LSU and had 26 total scholarship offers. Briggs, listed at 6-4.5 and 200 pounds, has shown his versatility over his first three years of high school. He has played at seven different positions on both sides of the ball including receiver, tight end, running back, quarterback, linebacker, safety and edge rusher. But his future is at tight end. 247Sports recruiting analyst Greg Biggins wrote in his scouting report of Briggs that he is 'natural with his hands and flashes high level body control. Fluid route runner who can turn a defender around and runs really well after the catch. Shows some wiggle in the open field and is tough to bring down.' 'Tracks the football well down the field and has excellent hand-eye coordination,' Biggins' scouting report continued. 'At this point, Briggs is much more advanced as a pass catcher but shows his toughness on the defensive end and that should translate to him developing in to a solid blocker as he puts on the needed size to become a more well rounded tight end.' Briggs is the fourth Class of 2026 player to commit to the Hurricanes over the past four days, joining fellow four-star prospects in wide receiver Vance Spafford and athlete Asharri Charles along with three-star linebacker Justin Edwards. Miami also received a pledge from Class of 2027 safety Jaylyn Jones in that span. Miami now has 17 players committed to its Class of 2026, nine of whom are either four- or five-star prospects. Briggs is the first tight end pledge for Miami's 2026 class.

Top long snapper recruit Sean Kraft is Notre Dame's first 2027 commitment

With a premier Class of 2026 receiving national buzz, Notre Dame continues to look toward the future. That future now includes Sean Kraft, a Class of 2027 product who committed to the Fighting Irish on Tuesday. He is considered one of the best long snappers in this class, and Rubio Long Snapping has him as its No. 1 overall player. The Asheville Christian Academy (Swannanoa, NC) product gives the Fighting Irish their first pledge of the 2027 recruiting cycle. ND became interested in Kraft a few months ago, and the coaching staff invited the 6-foot-4, 215-pounder to camp in June. He worked out on June 16, which led to his scholarship offer. Kraft was scheduled to work out for Liberty and Virginia Tech this month, but he decided to bypass those trips and pledge to the Irish. The last high school long snapper to be put on scholarship at ND was Alex Peitsch in 2020. Charlie Woods wins playoff to qualify for second straight U.S. Junior Amateur

Charlie Woods is headed to another USGA championship. Woods, 16, qualified for his second straight U.S. Junior Amateur on Thursday, winning a 3-for-1 playoff at Eagle Trace Golf Club in Coral Springs, Florida, for the last of five qualifying spots. Woods shot 1-under 71, closing in bogey-birdie-bogey, along with Oscar Crowe and Matthew Marigliano before winning the playoff. Medalist Arth Sinha also qualified, as did Lucas Gimenez, Sohan Patel and Wylie Inman. The U.S. Junior will be contested July 21-26 at Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas. Last year, Woods medaled in his U.S. Junior qualifier before shooting 22-over 162 at Oakland Hills to tie for 240th in the 264-player field and miss the match-play cut in his USGA debut. Woods, a rising junior at the Benjamin School in Palm Beach, Florida, has skyrocketed in the AJGA rankings. He's No. 17, fourth in the Class of 2027, boosted greatly by his first AJGA invitational victory last month at the Team TaylorMade Invitational at Streamsong Resort's Black Course. He's also tied for 10th in the U.S. Junior Ryder Cup standings. The six boys on the team, which will compete in the days prior to the Ryder Cup at Bethpage, will consist of the U.S. Junior winner, the Junior PGA winner and runner-up, the top two players in points and a captain's pick. As of June 15, Woods could began officially communicating with college coaches. He's expected to have plenty of interest from Power-4 schools.

Charlie Woods T-2 after 9 holes at 2025 U.S. Junior Amateur qualifying in Florida

Charlie Woods T-2 after 9 holes at 2025 U.S. Junior Amateur qualifying in Florida Charlie Woods, the son of nine-time USGA champion Tiger Woods, is attempting to qualify for his second straight U.S. Junior Amateur. Woods is playing in the Eagle Trace Golf Club qualifier in Florida, where five spots are up for grabs. Woods, 16, made his U.S. Junior Amateur debut last summer at Oakland Hills in Michigan, where he missed the cut. Tiger won three U.S. Junior Amateur titles and also has three U.S. Amateurs to his name, too. Starting on No. 10, Woods was 3 under through eight holes before a bogey on the par-4 18th to turn in 2 under, which was good for T-2. His scores are only being updated after every nine holes, so don't expect any changes to his score until he completes play. Last month, Woods got his biggest win to date, winning the AJGA's Team TaylorMade Invitational at Streamsong Black in Central Florida, beating a field consisting of most of the top juniors in the country. Earlier this week, Woods, a Class of 2027 recruit, was able to be contacted for the first time by college coaches looking to recruit him. Earlier this month, he made the cut at the Florida Amateur Championship. The 2025 U.S. Junior Amateur is set for July 21-26 at Trinity Forest in Dallas.

He combines a quick first step, strong hands and a consisted motor," Biggins wrote. "He's a relentless player with a nice edge in his game and can manhandle opposing linemen at the high school level. He has an NFL ceiling if he reaches his potential and he's talented enough to play for any school in the country."
