Lazio respond to rumors about Sarri's discontent: 'He's fully committed'

Lazio have released an official statement after report circulated earlier today that there could be managerial upheaval at the club. Manager Maurizio Sarri was reportedly feeling 'uneasy' after learning about the financial limitations faced by Roma's rivals—which could complicate the club's summer transfer plans. However, the Biancocelesti responded swiftly with an official statement to clarify the situation. Advertisement 'This morning, President Claudio Lotito and coach Maurizio Sarri had a long and in-depth telephone conversation' Lazio wrote on their website. 'Various points were addressed including a lengthy discussion regarding the regulatory situation related to the liquidity index. During the conversation, the President, for the first time, illustrated in detail the technical complexity of the legislation and its implications.' Adding, 'Mr. Sarri, having formally acknowledged the situation in its entirety, confirmed his full availability to continue with determination the commitment made towards the Club and the fans.' 'A choice made by the Commander, who reaffirms his strong attachment to the white and blue colors and to all the Lazio people, an extraordinary people, who deserve seriousness and consistency.'

Sarri frustrated at lack of Lazio clarity on transfers

Maurizio Sarri really did not expect to be put into a tense transfer situation at Lazio, as their finances are severely limiting the options on the market and there is very little clarity from the club. It was already known that the liquidity index was a problem, but now there are three, because the debt index and the index on salaries are all issues as well. Advertisement The question is: can Lazio actually do any deals on the transfer market? Above all: how long will they be in this situation? We would need someone to give a real, in-depth answer and not a superficial one. It is one thing to say 'we can carry on with this squad and if we make a big sale, then a replacement can arrive of the same level.' It is quite another thing to not understand if any deals can be done, even a loan. The fact remains, Sarri needs two or three new signings to suit his idea of football. He is happy to make the best of the current squad, albeit one that finished seventh in Serie A, but there has to be a clearer strategy than 'we're stuck with them.' Lazio President Claudio Lotito (Photo by Marco Rosi –) Over the next few hours, this clarity is going to be important, because once the season has begun, there is no more turning back. The club insists it is working to resolve the problem, Lazio can say when that'll happen, but it is certainly not helping the situation. It does not leave Sarri at all reassured.

Indeed, Istanbul could be his next destination, with Inter already preparing for life after the 31-year-old. Lazio ace Nicolo Rovella tops the club's shortlist. However, striking a deal with Biancocelesti president Claudio Lotito could prove easier said than done. Rovella's substantial €50m release clause puts Lazio in a strong bargaining position. Therefore, Inter will likely need to break the bank to sign the former Juventus midfielder.

The Al-Hilal superstar who once dreamed of Real Madrid move now stands against them

The Al-Hilal superstar who once dreamed of Real Madrid move now stands against them As Real Madrid prepare to face Al Hilal in their FIFA Club World Cup opener, all eyes are not just on the Spanish giants, but also on one of their opponents' standout players, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. The Serbian midfielder, now 30, has become a key figure for Al Hilal, showing consistent brilliance since making the switch from Lazio. Advertisement Since joining the Saudi club, Milinkovic-Savic has already lifted four trophies and scored 31 goals in just 96 appearances. However, things could have turned out very differently for him. When Real Madrid expressed interest According to MARCA, the talented midfielder had once been on Real Madrid's radar as early as 2018. Back then, after a standout season at Lazio, top European clubs such as Juventus, PSG, Manchester United, and Milan all showed interest in him, but no one could make the deal happen. The reason? Lazio president Claudio Lotito refused to budge. He placed a €150 million price tag on Milinkovic-Savic and made it clear he wasn't planning to sell. His Real Madrid dream never came During his eight years with Lazio, the midfielder made over 300 appearances and became one of the most admired talents in Serie A. However, in a 2021 interview, he openly admitted: 'It's always been my dream to play for Real Madrid. I hope to wear that white shirt one day.' But that day never arrived. After Zinedine Zidane left the club, Real Madrid changed direction and brought in younger midfielders like Eduardo Camavinga instead. The dream move faded. In 2023, Milinkovic-Savic surprised many by moving to Al Hilal. The Saudi club paid €40 million for his services and handed him a lucrative deal. Now, in June 2025, destiny brings him face to face with the club he once longed to join. On the pitch in the Club World Cup, he will finally meet Real Madrid, not as one of them, but as their rival.

Sarri returns as Lazio coach

Maurizio Sarri has returned to Lazio as head coach a year after he resigned from the post, the Serie A club announced on Monday. Details of the deal were not disclosed by the club but Italian news agency Adnkronos reported that the former Chelsea and Juventus manager Sarri has rejoined Lazio on a two-year contract with an option for a third season. Sarri resigned as Lazio coach in March 2024, almost three years into his tenure. They finished seventh in Serie A in 2023-24, having finished second the previous season. "Maurizio Sarri has returned home. His return is a choice of heart, conviction and vision," club president Claudio Lotito said in a statement. "With him we want to resume a path interrupted too soon, aware that together we can bring back enthusiasm, identity and ambition. Welcome back to your home Commander."
