James Gunn Confirms 9 DC Projects in Active Development but THE AUTHORITY Might Be in Trouble — GeekTyrant

James Gunn recently teased what's happening at DC Studios, and while there's a lot to be excited about, one highly-anticipated project might be stalling. In a recent TikTok interview with Straw Hat Goofy, Gunn enthusiastically listed several DCU projects that are actively moving forward. 'We got some really cool stuff happening. We got Supergirl coming out in a year, we got Lanterns coming out [in] probably less than a year. That's some good stuff, that's some really good stuff… 'We're making Clayface right now, and that is, oh man, the script by Mike Flanagan [is] so, oh, so good. Straight horror. And we're working on The Brave and the Bold , Wonder Woman , The Batman 2 with Matt Reeves, we're working on that, we're working on Sgt. Rock .' That's a total of seven projects Gunn rattled off without hesitation. Add to that some 'Krypto shorts… little cartoons for kids that are really fun' and a second season of Creature Commandos , which Gunn calls a 'real big priority,' and that brings the current count to nine. But what about The Authority ? When asked about the status of the WildStorm team's DCU debut, Gunn's response was... less enthusiastic. 'The Authority, that's… That's not going so well?' He said that with an awkward pause and laugh, and that might speak volumes about where that project currently stands. As for The Brave and the Bold , Gunn recently gave a small update. 'There's really no new updates,' he said. 'I mean, we're working on a script. We have a screenwriter who's hammering away at it. I'm very involved, and so, you know, we'll see what happens next. I wish I had more news for you, but I don't.' One project Gunn didn't explicitly mention but is definitely coming soon is Peacemaker Season 2, which drops in August. The whole TikTok clip played with a running gag where John Cena, fully suited up as Peacemaker, is completely ignored by Gunn. which is a fun nod to the next chapter that's just around the corner. There might be more unannounced projects still cooking behind the scenes, but as it stands, DC fans have a lot to look forward to. Just maybe don't hold your breath for The Authority anytime soon.

Naomi Ackie Reportedly Top Choice for Female Lead in DC Studios Feature CLAYFACE — GeekTyrant

It's being reported that actress Naomi Ackie ( Sorry, Baby , Mickey 17 ) is the top choice for the female lead in DC Studios' Clayface movie about the Batman antagonist. A deal hasn't been signed yet, but if Ackie accepts the part, she will star opposite Welsh actor Tom Rhys Harries in the James Watkins-directed supervillain flick. News about Clayface hits at an exciting time for DC, as their first movie under studio bosses Peter Safran and James Gunn, Superman, is coursing to $409M worldwide, another comeback for superhero movies, and they're heading into San Diego Comic-Con this week to roll out the second season of HBO's Peacemaker . Clayface is shape-shifting villain in the Batman comics and got his introduction as part of Detective Comics #40 in June 1940. The original Clayface was a moderately successful actor who adopted the identity of a character he'd portrayed in a horror pic after turning to crime. Clayface has a body seemingly made out of clay and has appeared over the years in various films, series, animated works, video games and other forms of media. Producing Clayface are Gunn and Safran as well as The Batman filmmaker Matt Reeves and Lynn Harris. Chantal Nong is executive producer. The Life of Chuck filmmaker Mike Flanagan wrote the first draft of Clayface , with additional drafts by Oscar-nominated The Wings of a Dove and Drive scribe Hossein Amini. Clayface will be shooting at Warner Bros Leavesden studio in the UK, and is expected to be released in theaters on September 11, 2026. via: Deadline

Naomi Ackie 'in early talks for Clayface role'

Naomi Ackie is reportedly in early talks for Clayface. The 32-year-old actress - who has appeared in the likes of Mickey 17 and Blink Twice - is said to be in initial discussions to join Tom Rhys Harries in Mike Flanagan's take on the Batman villain. According to The Hollywood Reporter, several sources have revealed that formal negotiations are set to get underway this week. Ackie is said to have joined in reading sessions in the UK last week, and emerged as a favourite for DCU bosses. Speak No Evil director James Watkins will be at the helm, with Rhys Harries playing the titular role from a script written by The Haunting of Hill House director Flanagan. The body horror thriller is focused on the supervillain and his appearance-altering powers, with comparisons to the feel and structure od 1986 classic The Fly. That film followed a relationship between a scientist (Jeff Goldblum) fused with the DNA of a fly, and the journalist (Geena Davis) writing about the discovery. For Clayface, an B-movie actor's life is changed for ever when his face gets disfigured by a gangster. He desperately seeks out a scientist for help, and while the experiment is initially a success, things take a sinister turn. The film is slated to shoot at Warner Bros. Leavesden studio in the UK later this year as it marches towards its September 2026 release date. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Clayface will be a 'stripped down movie', with a budget of approximately $40 million. DC Studios boss and Superman director James Gunn recently opened up on his vision for the wider cinematic universe, and insisted there can't be a set style or genre across each film. He told CBS Mornings: "We've got Clayface, which is a totally different thing. Although it's in the same universe, it's a complete horror film. "That's one of the things we want to do. There's not a company style. It's not like every movie is going to be like Superman. "The artists — the directors and the writers — each one will bring their own sense to it… "That's what we want to bring to the films because we don't want people to get bored. We want to invigorate people." Meanwhile, fans are eagerly awaiting The Batman Part II from filmmaker Matt Reeves, who recently completed the script for the highly anticipated follow-up. When asked at the Superman world premiere in Los Angeles earlier this month if he has read the script, he simply told ScreenRant: "It's great!" Gunn then made a swift exit from the chat, but was smiling as he walked further down the carpet.

Naomi Ackie in talks to join DC horror film Clayface

Naomi Ackie is in early talks to join the cast of Clayface, an upcoming DC horror film directed by James Watkins. The project will star Welsh actor Tom Rhys Harries in the titular role, with Ackie expected to play a key supporting character. Reading sessions for the film were held in England last week, where Ackie emerged as the top choice. Formal negotiations are expected to begin soon, sources say. The script for Clayface was written by horror auteur Mike Flanagan and is described as a psychological body horror thriller rooted in the DC Universe. The film is said to channel the tone of David Cronenberg's The Fly, combining tragic transformation with emotional depth. Clayface will focus on a rising actor whose face is disfigured by a gangster. Desperate, he turns to a fringe scientist—compared to Elizabeth Holmes—for an experimental treatment. While the procedure initially appears successful, it unleashes terrifying consequences. The film is scheduled for release on September 11, 2026, and has a mid-$40 million budget. It marks one of the first major entries in the new DC era led by James Gunn and Peter Safran, even arriving ahead of films featuring marquee characters like Wonder Woman. Gunn, Safran, Matt Reeves, and Lynn Harris are all attached as producers. Ackie is best known for portraying Whitney Houston in I Wanna Dance With Somebody and recently starred in the A24 drama Sorry, Baby. Her upcoming projects include The Thursday Murder Club for Netflix and I Love Boosters from Boots Riley. She is represented by CAA, Range, and Peikoff Mahan.

DCU boss James Gunn says Batman and Wonder Woman won't start production until they have good scripts because they "deserve the best"

Now that David Corenswet's Superman is flying high at the box office and Milly Alcock's Supergirl is hitting cinemas next year, DC fans are already thinking about the next major superheroes that are set to join the franchise. Of course, we're talking about Batman and Wonder Woman, who are yet to be cast in the new DCU. When asked about when fans will be able to see these characters again, DC Studios co-head James Gunn said it's all about finding the right script. "I mean, it's not going to be until the scripts are ready. So, both the scripts are being written now, and, if they're good, then we'll go into production immediately," he told radio Urbana Play. "So it really depends on how we can get the scripts done," he added, "because the one thing I'm just not going to do is go into production without a script that I feel is fantastic, especially for those characters who deserve the best. I'd rather wait a year than go too soon". This is not the first time Gunn says the script is a priority for him. The Superman director recently revealed that he chose Supergirl as the next DCU movie because of its "incredible script", and he prioritised an unexpected project like Clayface because of Mike Flanagan's horror-inspired script. So we'll have to wait and see if Gunn loves the Batman and Wonder Woman scripts that are being written right now. Beyond The Batman 2, which is part of an alternative DC universe called Elseworlds, another Batman movie titled The Brave and the Bold is in the works. The film is set to follow Batman and his son Damian Wayne as Robin. "It's a strange father and son story about the two of them and based on Grant Morrison's run of the Batman," Gunn explained during the original DCU presentation. Robert Pattinson would not be reprising the role for this movie. In a exclusive interview with GamesRadar+ earlier this month, James Gunn revealed that "there's really no new updates" about the upcoming Batman movie, but they have a screenwriter "who's hammering away at it." There is even less news about a new Wonder Woman movie, after a third movie starring Gal Gadot was cancelled at DC. The recasting has been the source of much speculation since Gunn confirmed a brand-new Wonder Woman movie was in the works earlier this year. Gunn addressed Adria Arjona's fan casting saying that she would make a "great" candidate, but it's too early to confirm anything at this point. A separate Wonder Woman prequel series, titled Paradise Lost, is also on the way, focused on the Amazon island of Themyscira. Superman hits the big screen on July 11.
