Where did Ohio State land in the Cleveland.com preseason Big Ten football media poll?

Big Ten football media days officially kick off Tuesday in Las Vegas. And while other conferences conduct an official media poll to pick the preseason order of finish, the Big Ten scrapped that years ago. But never fear, the preseason prognostications have been kept alive thanks to other media outlets, most notably which has now spearheaded a poll for 15 years. The results were as close as any I can remember in recent years, but after 25 media members were polled from around the conference, Penn State was picked to win the Big Ten championship with 11 first-place votes. As we mentioned, it was close, though, with Ohio State finishing second, just one first-place vote behind the Nittany Lions and with total poll points totaling 435 to 431. Penn State has gotten a lot of preseason buzz this season, mainly because it returns a lot of veteran players at key positions, including Drew Allar at quarterback and the tandem of Kaytron Allen and Nicholas Singleton at running back, both of whom eclipsed 1,000 yards in 2024. The defense should also be a very good one with key skill returning and now under the guidance of former Ohio State defensive coordinator Jim Knowles. If Penn State can pull it off, it'll be the first time it has taken home the Big Ten title since 2016. Oregon -- last year's conference champion -- was picked to finish third, followed by Illinois (4), and Michigan (5). The Ducks got three first-place votes, and the Wolverines got one (no truth to the rumor that it was Connor Stalions). The Illini didn't receive a first-place vote. Here's a look at the entire preseason Big Ten order of finish predictions from the poll: Rank Team (1st place) Points Average Rank No. 1 Penn State (11) 435 1.60 No. 2 Ohio State (10) 431 1.76 No. 3 Oregon (2) 405 2.80 No. 4 Illinois 353 4.88 No. 5 Michigan (1) 346 5.16 No. 6 Indiana 305 680 No. 7 Iowa 287 7.52 No. 8 Nebraska 277 7.92 No. 9 USC 269 8.24 No. 10 Washington 216 10.36 No. 11 Minnesota 192 11.32 No. 12 Wisconsin 159 12.60 No. 13 Michigan State 135 13.60 No. 13 Rutgers 135 13.60 No. 15 UCLA 134 13.64 No. 16 Maryland 91 15.36 No. 17 Northwestern 65 16.40 No. 18 Purdue 39 17.44 We'll have coverage of Big Ten media days when things get rolling on Tuesday and through the rest of the week. It's about to get a lot of fun, and there are only a few weeks before we get to buckle up on this ride called college football season again. Browns QB Kenny Pickett predicted to enter training camp as QB1

The Cleveland Browns' quarterback battle is about to begin with the start of 2025 training camp on July 23rd. Rookies and veterans have officially reported to Berea, and to kick things off, Mary Kay Cabot of predicts that Kenny Pickett will have the upper hand early in camp. 'My guess is that Kenny Pickett still has a slight edge in terms of being No. 1 on the depth chart heading into training camp, but that could quickly change,' Mary Kay said in the latest edition of 'Hey Mary Kay!' She also broke down the unique circumstances surrounding the Browns' quarterback situation. With four quarterbacks competing for playing time this season, it's shaping up to be a different kind of training camp for the team: 'It might not be easy to determine where the QBs fall on the imaginary depth chart in the first two weeks of camp, because the Browns will continue two-spotting—or splitting—the four QBs on two different fields to maximize their reps,' Many fans will argue and speculate about Joe Flacco not getting starting quarterback reps in camp, but his experience in the NFL and with the team speaks louder than practice reps. Head coach Kevin Stefanski and the organization know what Flacco can provide if they choose to start him at the beginning of the regular season. There's no question that the quarterback room will be a major storyline throughout training camp. While it's unlikely that rookies Shedeur Sanders or Dillon Gabriel will start in Week 1, they'll still have plenty of opportunities behind their veteran competition on the roster.

Spartans listed in bottom half of Big Ten football preseason media poll

The media has spoken, and they believe Michigan State will finish near the bottom of the Big Ten again this fall. The annual (formerly Cleveland Plain Dealer) preseason Big Ten media poll was released on Monday, with the Spartans landing in the back half of the league. Michigan State was pegged as the No. 13 team in the league, tied with Rutgers. This year's poll included 24 voters, with beat reporters from each team covered. Michigan State received 135 points and averaged out a ranking of 13.60 in the poll. UCLA was right behind the Spartans with only one point separating them from Michigan State and Rutgers. For perspective, our internal Spartans Wire preseason poll had Michigan State coming in at No. 8 in the league. So as we predicted, the Spartans Wire crew has higher expectations for the Spartans this fall than others covering the league. Cleveland asks judge to halt all work on new Browns stadium in Brook Park

Cleveland had hoped to use The Art Modell Law to keep the Browns from leaving downtown for Brook Park. With Ohio changing the Modell law to allow an in-state move, the Browns had to move to Plan B. Via Adam Ferrise of Cleveland wants to halt all efforts to build a new stadium based on the terms of the team's current lease. On the surface, its no issue. The lease runs through 2028. The Browns, in theory, are free to play elsewhere as of 2029. At a deeper level, it's more complicated. The question is whether and to what extent the Browns may take affirmative steps to line up a new home before the lease expires. The city wants a court order preventing the Browns from doing anything in connection with the building of a new team until the lease ends — from funding to permitting to construction and beyond. The city also wants the Browns to be prevented from accepting money 'from any source' or to even 'carry out any negotiations for it.' The lawsuit, if successful, would essentially force the Browns to spend multiple lame-duck years in Cleveland without a long-term deal, while they get their new stadium built in Brook Park. It may be simply a leverage play aimed at striking a deal. A simple one, like the Browns agreeing to help pay for the demolition of the current stadium once the new one is open.
