Two Dunedin club rugby players suspended after secretly filming and posting intimate videos of student

He then shared the five-second video to more than 30 people on the Green Island club's social media group chat, with the caption 'up the battlers'. 'Users of the group were able to duplicate or save the video and further distribute it,' the court summary of facts said. The other player, Oliver Bugden, 23, has pleaded guilty to identical charges after court documents showed the woman was later filmed when she was asleep. '[Ryan's] flatmate viewed the defendant's Snapchat video, arrived home and entered the defendant's bedroom with another associate from the rugby team. 'The flatmate, walked to the victim's side of the bed, pulled the covers from her and filmed her naked breast and underwear before posting it on the same team Snapchat group.' The woman, whose identity is suppressed, was alerted to the incident after the partner of one of the group members filmed the Snapchat video and sent it to associates who recognised her. Ryan is due to reappear in the Dunedin District Court on October 30, with Bugden set to reappear on November 11. In a social media post, Green Island Rugby Club confirmed both players had been stood down for the rest of the season. 'We want to make it absolutely clear that the behaviour reported is completely unacceptable. Our thoughts are firmly with the victim and their whānau during what is undoubtedly a deeply distressing time. 'In both cases, we are co-operating fully with the appropriate authorities and will support any process necessary to ensure accountability and care. We acknowledge the disappointment and concern this incident has caused our community.' Before the pair's suspension, the coach of the division 2 team, nicknamed the 'Battlers', Stu Turner said both players would feature in this weekend's semifinal match against Harbour. As reported by the Otago Daily Times, Turner described Ryan as 'a good dude'. 'I think [he's] pretty upset with everything that's going on and [he's] going to be getting punished enough as it is ... [stopping him from playing] would just be adding further punishment, I think,' he said. New Zealand Rugby (NZR) community rugby general manager Steve Lancaster said the behaviour of both players was 'completely unacceptable'. 'Everyone deserves respect, safety, and freedom from abuse. In rugby we believe we have an opportunity to take a stance and be part of the solution,' he said. 'We extend our thoughts to those impacted, acknowledging that incidents of this nature can have deeply distressing effects on individuals and whānau alike. 'Our rugby community expects its members to uphold the highest standards of conduct, both on and off the field.' The governing body would be working with the Otago Rugby Football Union and the club to ensure this would not happen again, Lancaster said. Last year, Green Island RFC was awarded NZR's Club of the Year. – RNZ

Northern curling clubs honoured at 2025 CurlSask gala

NORTH — The communities of La Ronge, Hudson Bay and Spiritwood were all honoured at the 2025 CurlSask Awards Gala on June 7 in Regina. CurlSask presented three club awards: Kelcee Kennedy, marketing co-ordinator for CURLSASK, told SaskToday, 'We had around 90 people in attendance. This included some of our provincial champions from the past season, umpires, board members, staff and our recent World Senior Men's Champions, Team Randy Bryden.' 'Thanks CurlSask for awarding the Hudson Bay Curling Club the 2024-25 Club of the Year. Thanks to everyone that volunteers at the rink on and off the ice, as well as all our members that help keep our sport alive and well in our community. This award goes out to you,' said Landon Sealey, a volunteer with the Hudson Bay Curling Club. The Club Membership Award is given to a CurlSask member club that fosters a welcoming and inclusive environment while working hard to increase both youth and adult participation. Spiritwood Curling Club was one of the few to complete its MAP application early and, impressively, doubled its overall membership this past season. The Club of the Year Award is CurlSask's highest honour, presented to a member club that exemplifies best practices, strong leadership and a commitment to excellence in all areas of club operations. Hudson Bay Curling Club saw a significant increase in junior membership and an incredible tripling of overall membership this past curling season. Sealey and Cynthia Happy accepted the award on behalf of the club. The Future Club Award is presented to a CurlSask member club that creates a positive and welcoming space for youth curlers. La Ronge Curling Club held a Viterra Blizzard Program, remained active on social media and participated in numerous junior tour events. Error! Sorry, there was an error processing your request. 'Must visit' West Midlands social club with own brewery is UK's best

A SOCIAL club in the West Midlands has been crowned the best in the UK, beating finalists from up and down the country to the top spot. The multi-award winning Firs Club in Codsall, Staffordshire has been named Club of the Year for 2024 by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) for the first time. Described by CAMRA as a 'must visit for cask beer fans', the Firs Club was praised for its drinks line up, with the club having its own microbrewery on site, which features a core ranges of ales, some of which are exclusive to the venue, Firs beers and five locally sourced, 'ever-changing' cask beers. Claiming to be 'the best place in Codsall to watch football, the club has a large decking area for people to enjoy in the summer, as well as a 'comfortably furnished' bar area, quiet lounge area and a separate sports lounge for people to enjoy a round of darts or game of pool. The club's manager, Anna Reynolds, said she was 'honoured' to win the award and praised the community behind the club for its success. She said: 'Well what can I say, it's a great surprise and honour to win CAMRA's Club of the Year award, it's something we thought was out of our reach. 'We couldn't have done it without the support of our club members, committee, CAMRA members and of course the staff who work hard to make the club a great place to visit and hopefully stay for a while.' The club has previously been named West Midlands Regional Club of the Year three years in a row and has been featured in CAMRA's Good Beer Guide. The Firs Club beat out three other social clubs in Kent, Kettering and St Helens to take the national crown. Shelly Bentley, West Midlands Regional Director for CAMRA, said: 'This is a fantastic achievement for the Firs Club. 'Anna and the team work incredibly hard to create a communal atmosphere and provide a stellar line up of beers for locals to enjoy. I hope this is the first of many successes for the club and its community. '2024 has been a fantastic year for the West Midlands, this award for the Firs Club is truly deserved and comes just a couple of weeks after the Bailey Head in Oswestry was named Pub of the Year 2024.'
