I've skipped several iPad generations, but this iPad Pro M5 feature could be what I'm waiting for

Quick Summary Apple could switch the display tech for future iPad Pro devices, introducing processes to allow for slimmer bezels and potentially smaller tablets. It's not known whether this will be in time for the iPad Pro M5 or if we'll have to wait a bit longer. Apple is considering a display technology that could give future iPad Pro models slimmer bezels, and therefore more screen real estate without increasing their physical size. Alternatively, it could even see its best iPads shrink to be lighter and more manageable, while retaining the same display size. It is reported (by The Elec via MacRumors) that the company could switch the display drivers for its iPad Pro OLED panels from Samsung's to those manufactured by LX Semicon. It would also then adopt LG Innotek's CoF technology, too. This latter tech enables display driver hardware to be attached to panels using heat compression on flexible film. This is how signals can be sent to the OLED panel to drive individual pixels. It is also a process that allows for the edges of the panel to run tighter to the enclosure – thereby potentially reducing bezel sizes. Apple has already made significant strides in reducing the frame around the screen in recent times, it also jumped to OLED for its current model – the iPad Pro M4 – which improved already excellent picture performance to another level. There's also the option for nano texture glass on spec'ed up models, to reduce glare and create a more paper-like feel. However, it's the shrinking of the bezels that attracts me most to a possible future purchase. Having owned an 11-inch M2 iPad Pro since its launch in 2022, I've not had the inclination nor need for a replacement. However, it's fairly heavy, and I'd happily swap it in for something lighter and a touch smaller. Alternatively, I'm all up for a larger screen with no physical trade-off. Especially considering the new MacBook-like features coming with iPadOS 26. The only issue is whether Apple will sign a new display supply deal before the iPad Pro M5 is due in stores. It might just be I'll have to wait a bit longer. Ah well, I'm a patient chap.

Apple's next iPad Pro might get a bezel makeover
Apple's next iPad Pro OLED displays may come with LG Innotek's chip-on-film (CoF) technology. This change may potentially make it possible for the company to shave the bezels noticeably and also offer a more compact design without sacrificing screen size. The info comes from a report from the Korean outlet The Elec, which states that Apple is now expected to either approve or reject LX Semicon's display driver IC this month, which would work alongside the aforementioned CoF tech. What CoF basically does is attach the display driver chips to panels using heat compression on flexible films. It sends signals to control individual pixels through thin-film transistors. This combination allows for tighter integration of the panel with the display's edges. And yep, this basically means there could be shrinking of the visible bezels and thus creating more screen real estate in the same device size. It can also offer a more power-efficient signal processing (therefore better battery life), but this may or may not happen. So far, Apple has relied on Samsung System LSI for display driver ICs in its OLED iPad Pro models. A switch to LG could also diversify Apple's supply chain and reduce component costs through, well, competition. The report doesn't state specifically which iPad model the new components are made for. However, an earlier report indicated that LX Semicon's entry into Apple's supply chain is for the iPad Pro. The new iPad Pro models are expected to come in the second half of this year and sport an M5 chip. Apparently, in the future, iPads are rumored to come with a landscape-oriented Apple logo and Apple's 5G modems, and there are also talks about a potential 18.8-inch foldable iPad that could come in 2027. Honestly, I love the idea of thinner bezels – it's one of those small changes that just makes the whole device feel more modern. And if Apple's finally bringing some real competition between Samsung and LG into the mix, maybe we'll start seeing faster upgrades and better prices too. Fingers crossed! He said once the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) issues the Certificate of Fitness (CoF) and Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) grants the Occupational Permit, students and teachers will be moved to the new location. 'We already have students who are supposedly to be enrolled into YSISS Sibu this January, but the school can only be ready by June or next month. They are now temporarily housed at the second YSISS at Mile 12 Kuching-Serian Road. 'We are waiting for the OP (from SMC) and clearance (CoF) from the Bomba. Once they are ready, we will relocate them to Sibu. 'I hope it will happen in the next couple of weeks. But I am trying very hard so that they can move to Sibu as soon as possible. The only issue now is to get Bomba clearance (and the OP),' he told reporters this after the 'Ibadah Qurban Nangka' at SK Abang Ali here today. A view of YSISS Sibu along Jalan Teng Chin Hua. – Photo by Peter Boon According to him, YSISS Sibu will be the third international school to operate in Sarawak, with two others expected to commence operations soon. Currently, Yayasan Sarawak's two international schools at Petra Jaya and Mile 12 Kuching-Serian Road are operational, with Sibu next in line. The Nangka assemblyman emphasised that YSISS would adopt the Cambridge syllabus, with students sitting for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE). On the event, Dr Annuar highlighted that the sacrificial meat was given to 116 orphaned students attending schools within the constituency. 'Today's programme is meant for Hari Raya Aidiladha, where we are giving the sacrificial meat to 116 orphaned students who are not staying in the complex (The Juma'ani Tuanku Haji Bujang Welfare Complex). 'As you know, we have orphans residing both within the complex and outside of it. Today ('s event) is dedicated exclusively to those students who are not living there, as well as to the asnaf group in DUN Nangka,' he said. Dr Annuar revealed that three cows were sacrificed, partially contributed by Nangka Service Centre. For the record, there are nine primary schools and three secondary schools in Nangka. Political secretary to Premier, Syed Azmee Wan Junaidi was also in attendance. dr annuar rapaee lead Yayasan Sarawak International Secondary School Sibu
