Fans flock to Truist Park for 2025 MLB Draft

Sunday night, Major League Baseball took over the Coca-Cola Roxy across from Truist Park for the 2025 MLB Draft, as future stars were selected. As each pick came in, excitement grew in The Battery, where a draft watch party was held for fans on the plaza. Advertisement A handful of fans were allowed to attend the draft in person, and many, like Brock Slocumb, showed up hours in advance. 'We were like, 'Let's get in line about two hours early' because it's all general admission, so it's first come, first served,' Slocumb told Channel 2's Brittany Kleinpeter. We just wanted to make sure we were the first in line so that maybe we could get a better seat,' said Jagger. For fans who weren't able to snag those coveted seats, some, like Davis and Drew Javaley, camped outside the Roxy hoping to spot a few familiar faces. Advertisement 'People we've grown up watching, so it's cool to finally see them in person,' said Davis. The night brought fans together for a moment that many don't often get to experience so intimately. On Monday, the Home Run Derby gets underway at 8 p.m., with gates set to open at 5 p.m. TRENDING STORIES: [SIGN UP: WSB-TV Daily Headlines Newsletter]

Giants select Tennessee shortstop Gavin Kilen with 13th overall draft pick

ATLANTA — With a glitzy setting, the Coca Cola Roxy theater across the street from Truist Park, the MLB Draft kicked off Sunday evening — with several mascots, lots of former players and many major-league officials on hand, but zero team draft officials or drafted players. The San Francisco Giants, picking 13th in this increasingly glammed-up event, picked a college shortstop, Tennessee's Gavin Kilen. The draft was chock-full of high-school shortstops, but Kilen, 21, a left-handed hitter who's considered to have excellent bat-to-ball skills and some power. Kilen, who spent his first two collegiate seasons at Louisville, hit .357 with 15 homers in 53 games this past season and compiled a 1.112 OPS while walking 30 times and striking out only 27 times. He played shortstop, third and second during his college career. The A's, with the 11th pick in the draft, took Florida State right-hander Jamie Arnold. As a revenue-sharing recipient who had lottery picks each of the past two seasons, Sacramento could not pick in the top 10 this season. More For You Giants' late-game drama turns to stinging defeat as Dodgers win in 11 innings Why the Willie Mays memorabilia auction is a missed opportunity for the Giants The Nationals, with the first pick, selected Eli Willits, a shortstop from Fort Cobb-Broxton (Okla.) High School rather than one of the projected top picks, Ethan Holliday, a third baseman-shortstop Stillwater (Okla.) High School — the brother of 2022 No. 1 pick Jackson Holliday and son of former big-leaguer Matt Holliday. Willits' dad, Reggie, was an outfielder with the Angels. The Angels, picking second, stunned prognosticators by taking UC Santa Barbara starter Tyler Bremner, who hadn't been expected to crack the top 10. The Rockies, Matt Holliday's longtime team, took Ethan Holliday with the fourth pick.

Shake Shack bringing new restaurant and support center to The Battery Atlanta

Shake Shack is coming to The Battery Atlanta later this year. The restaurant chain is not only opening a location near Truist Park, but will also be opening its second U.S. support center to support Shake Shack's 336 restaurants and roughly 13,000 employees. The restaurant location at The Battery Atlanta will feature something new for Shake Shack - a bar. In addition to the menu items that every other Shake Shack serves, this location will offer signature and classic cocktails, local craft beer, wine, and more. The company announced last year that the new Shake Shack location would take over the former spot occupied by Wahlburgers, which closed in November. Shake Shack has two other support centers, one in New York, where the company was founded, and the other in Hong Kong, helping to support the more than 250 licensed restaurants across 20 countries. As a part of the support center, Shake Shack has also opened a 'kitchen innovation lab' a short drive from The Battery Atlanta, where the company's operations and development teams can test new equipment and optimize kitchen layouts.
