Colorado's updated 2026 recruiting class ranking after several July commitments

Colorado football secured four recruiting wins to begin July, which have drastically improved their class of 2026. Offensive tackles Colby Johnson and Xavier Payne, along with defensive back D'Montae Tims and linebacker Carson Crawford, all joined the Buffs since July 1. The four additions raise Colorado's recruiting class to eight total commitments after a slow start to this year's cycle. After spending much of the spring outside the top 100 nationally, the Buffs are now No. 88 in the nation but still rank last in the Big 12. Deion Sanders and company still have plenty of work to do if they want another top 25 recruiting class, but with the recent wave of commitments and a few others expected soon, momentum is building. Many have suggested that Deion Sanders' absence from the program while dealing with an unspecified health issue has hurt Colorado's recruiting efforts. However, with Sanders back with the team after his appearance at Big 12 media days this week, it suggests the program's recruiting efforts are looking up as the program gears up to begin preseason camp in a couple of weeks. Deion Sanders, Colorado Buffaloes secure commitment from a 2026 linebacker

Colorado football added another defensive commit to its 2026 recruiting class. Three-star linebacker Colby Johnson committed to the Buffaloes on Tuesday. He chose Colorado over his other top schools, San Diego State, Washington State and the Arizona Wildcats. Colorado hosted the linebacker from Sammamish, Washington, on June 13 for an official visit. 247Sports Composite had Johnson ranked as the No. 104 overall linebacker nationally and No. 11 player out of Washington. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound linebacker announced his commitment on social media. "I am extremely blessed to announce my official commitment to the University of Colorado! I want to thank god for all of the blessings along this journey," Johnson said in his announcement. "Lets go build something special, Go Buffs!!!" Head coach Deion Sanders and Colorado now add their fifth recruit to their 2026 class. The Buffs have mostly wrapped up their official visits, with a class ranking of No. 100 in the nation before Johnson's commitment. According to Rivals, the Buffaloes narrowly beat out San Diego State for his commitment. Colorado had 50.5% of his commitment, beating out the Aztecs' 44.2%.
