Stunning Connecticut country retreat once owned by Broadway legend lists for $5 million

A $5 million listing for a home older than the Revolutionary War is on the market in Danbury, Connecticut — which is approximately 50 miles northeast of NYC. The country retreat, called Roadside, dates back to the early 1700s. The historic home further boasts ties to Broadway legend Rachel Crothers, who lived and worked there until her death. Mansion Global first reported on the listing. 12 The property spans more than 53 acres. Realty Plans Advertisement 12 Playwright and former Roadside resident Rachel Crothers, pictured in 1911. Realty Plans Few recognize Crother's name today, but her groundbreaking work made waves throughout the early twentieth century for its feminist themes and social critiques. Advertisement Crothers lived at the 53-acre property from 1918 until she died in 1958, Mansion Global reported. The 6,625-square-foot colonial-style abode includes four bedrooms and seven bathrooms, according to the listing held by Kathleen Harrison at Coldwell Banker Realty. While living in the Connecticut home, Crothers wrote and directed plays for Broadway stages and beyond, featuring leading starlets of the day like Ethel Barrymore. The playwright found early success with her 1906 play 'The Three of Us,' which enjoyed a 277-performance run at the now-demolished Madison Square Theatre — which was located on 24th Street between Sixth Avenue and Broadway in Manhattan. One of her most famous plays, 'Susan and God,' was adapted into a 1940 film starring Joan Crawford. During Crother's decades-long tenure at the Danbury property, the home moved farther back from the road and expanded, according to the outlet. There's also a catering kitchen, a paneled library and an ensuite sunroom off of the primary bedroom. The listing also advertises an outdoor kitchen, a heated pool, a three-car garage and a convertible barn. The real draw of the property, however, is the surrounding land. 12 The property boasts two miles of walking trails. Realty Plans 12 A stream winds through the property. Realty Plans Advertisement Roadside's 53.44 acres include a private valley, a stream, a pond, stone bridges, a forest preserve and two miles of walking trails. Not to mention, the 315-year-old home is less than two hours from the bright lights of Crothers' beloved Broadway.

Legendary Singing Cowboy Roy Rogers's Former L.A. Home Can Be Yours for $7.2 Million

Roy Rogers passed away in July 1998 at age 86 with his wife and co-star Dale Evans by his side, but the beloved singing cowboy's legacy lives on at the Los Angeles estate he once called home—not to mention via his long-running weekly TV show bearing the sign-off tune Happy Trails to You and the 90 or so movies the good guy in a white Stetson starred in throughout his lengthy career. On the market for the first time in more than half a century, the traditional residence is now up for sale in the San Fernando Valley community of Sherman Oaks for $7.2 million. Owned by the 'King of the Cowboys' for almost 30 years before he relocated to his final resting place at the Double-R-Bar Ranch in Apple Valley near the California city of Victorville, where the Roy Rogers-Dale Evans Museum once stood before it was shuttered in 2009, this particular house in the desirable Longridge Estates neighborhood was built in the late 1930s and resided in by Rogers during World War II. Last sold to attorney Stephen Taylor and his wife Elizabeth back in spring 1971 for a mere $102,500, the place has been in the same family ever since. A bright blue front door opens into a wallpapered entry foyer, which flows to an expansive formal living room sporting a bay window and a floor-to-ceiling fireplace enhanced with a tiled surround. A dining area connects to the stone-floored kitchen, which is outfitted with ceramic countertops, a central island with a cooktop, and a breakfast nook that spills out to a large patio adorned with built-in redwood seating and a barbecue station. Other highlights include a sunroom with a bar and pool table setup, an office with an en suite bath, and a cozy wood-paneled library/den warmed by a fireplace. An upstairs primary suite comes with a fireplace, Juliet balconies, a separate lounge, a walk-in closet, and a bath flaunting dual vanities and a step-up soaking tub. And rounding it all out are the greenery-encased grounds, which are showcased by a large swimmer's pool encircled by a sundeck, as well as a spacious cabana. There's also an attached 1,075-square-foot garage with room for up to four vehicles. Per the listing, which is held by Donovan Healey of Coldwell Banker Realty and comes with plans to build a new modern house on the site, the true value of the property lies in its land, location, and limitless potential. 'Whether restored, reimagined or rebuilt entirely,' Healey said, 'this is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to create a world-class estate in a setting rich with history and charm.' A $12.4 Million Home Perched Above the Ocean Hits the Market in Martha's Vineyard

The summer season is starting to heat up, but that doesn't mean it's too late for you to snap up your own beachside retreat. A low-key Martha's Vineyard estate with horizon views over the Atlantic has just hit the market for $12.4 million. Designed by the architect Mark Hutker and built by J.G. Early in 2017, the eight-bedroom, nine-bath Colonial-style respite sits on a high bluff at the end of a private road. The seller, Paul Massey, once ran for mayor of New York City against Bill de Blasio before dropping out prior to the election. Moira Lown and Melissa Dailey at Coldwell Banker Realty hold the listing. The great room's open layout also includes a breakfast nook with a small built-in banquette and a living room anchored by a river-rock fireplace. A wet bar to the side makes for easy entertaining, with gatherings spilling from the living room into the attached screened-in porch. A similar fireplace warms the primary bedroom, which also has a serene bathroom where separate vanities line the walls and a soaking tub is slightly elevated to take advantage of the ocean views. A private balcony and an outdoor shower complete the suite. There are seven other bedrooms that provide ample space for family or guests. The lower level is set up with a gym and a game room, while Adirondack chairs on the porches look out over a plush lawn and the ocean. There's no pool, but the members-only East Chop Beach Club is just down the street. Martha's Vineyard has long been a favored summertime getaway popular with entertainment industry types, including Larry David, Spike Lee, Carly Simon, and Don Cheadle. A couple of years back, the journalist Diane Sawyer sold her 20-acre compound for a smidge under $24 million, and just last month, a 30-acre estate that formerly hosted Barack and Michelle Obama hit the market for $39 million. The home's owner, acclaimed British architect Norman Foster, bought the place in 2011 for $22.4 million and subsequently renovated it to stand out among the island's more traditional beach of Robb Report The 10 Priciest Neighborhoods in America (And How They Got to Be That Way) In Pictures: Most Expensive Properties Click here to read the full article.
