Go royalcore. This style guide shows you how
Fashion inspired by royalty has always been around but in the past few years, the trend – owing to OTT shows like The Crown, Bridgerton, and the more recent Indian outing Royals – has seen a massive upsurge. So much so that we now have 'Royalcore' as an entire aesthetic on social media, and youngsters willingly adopting this regal, maximalist fashion like they were born to the manor. Royalcore fashion is all about clothes that spell understated luxury. Think tailored suits, voluminous skirts, fitted corsets, coats and gowns made from rich fabrics like velvet, silk, tweed and cashmere. The colours hover over muted colours like white, pale yellow, light blue and light green for day wear and deep lush tones like claret, purple, royal blue, dark green and black for evening wear, all accented with a touch of gold. Also read: Get your cues for ocean-inspired fashion here Royalcore is aspirational, but as TikTok videos out there will tell you, not entirely inaccessible. As this compilation will show you, it's about pairing sharply tailored outfits with snazzy accessories like silk scarfs, lace gloves, and pumps in eye-catching shades. SLEEK SONNET Royalcore is about saying it with accessories as much as it is about clothes. Let's start with handbags. Skip bulky totes and backpacks that lend the feeling of you carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders. Instead, go for chic top handle bags like The Row's 'Nia' tote. Crafted from smooth leather it comes with a polished gold-tone handle and optional shoulder strap and just enough space to hold your phone, keys and lipstick or compact. Available on ₹2.99 lakhs. LI'L WOMAN Regency-period hit series, Bridgerton, has got everyone fitting themselves into flowy gowns in bright colours. It has also pushed the popularity of Gen Z-fave brands like Selkie Collection who are known for their royalcore inspired collections. A good example is this floor-length empire waist gown with a cascading skirt made from three layers of cotton gauze, ponte fabric at the bust and elastic puff sleeves. It gives off 'Penelope Featherington' vibes that her beau Colin Bridgerton would approve. Available on ₹29,100. NATTY KNOT For men, a royalty-inspired ensemble would check off essentials like a tailored jacket or suit, a crisp formal shirt or polo shirt and loafers. Upgrade the look with snazzy accessories like silk scarves and brooches that also tell a story. We've got our eyes on this navy blue scarf from label Drake. Made from a luxurious wool and silk blend, it features a 'Mughal' pattern of hounds, eagles and unicorns. Available on ₹33,747. If you are wondering where to start, start with a corset that's simple and elegant like this overbust corset in powder pink dupion silk with black lace overlay at the bust and lace flowers at the hips. The muted colour and delicate lace make it a versatile option that can be worn with a fitted black skirt or with a jacket and pants. Available on ₹28,538. BEDAZZLER The love affair between India's royal women and their French chiffon and organza saris is an abiding one. An image that comes to mind instantly is of Rajmata Gayatri Devi in her pastel saris and pearl necklaces. Take a leaf out of the regent's fashion book and make it your own with the help of this French organza sari from Atelier Shikaarbagh that's a tribute to another famous Indian queen: Durru Shehvar. The midnight blue-hued sari comes embroidered with sequins in whites and greens and is paired with a blue satin blouse. Available on ₹52,000. Also read: Not a fan of labubus? Their popularity is often credited to Queen Marie Antoinette who is known to have worn elaborate headgear decorated with, among other exotic things, ostrich feathers. Today, fascinators depict sophistication and a certain élan. The Sinamay fascinator by British milliner Victoria Grant is defined by slim black feathers set upon a lilac-hued base covered in mesh making it the perfect accessory for a high tea party or a spot of horse racing. Available on ₹99,490. BUCKLED UP In a royal ensemble, shoes are complementary, adding heft to a reined in look. Experiment with colours, if you will. For instance, pair a tweed Chanel suit with Manolo Blahnik's classic Hangisi 70 satin toe pumps in dark fuchisia that come adorned with signature crystal square buckles. Available on ₹1.19 lakh. CHAIR AFFAIR Extend the royalcore aesthetic to your home by adding select furniture pieces that are inspired by the Rococo, Baroque or Regence periods. You can't go wrong with classic-style Italian small armchairs. This design by Sevensedie is carved from beechwood and features carvings on the back and legs embellished with gold leaf lacquer finish. Available on price on request. Also read: How to pack a capsule wardrobe for a trekking holiday

Bridgerton Season 4 trailer sparks outrage among fans: 'This is ridiculous'
If you've been following the Bridgerton series on Netflix, you're in it for the long haul - literally. The first season of the Regency-era romance was released back in December 2020 - and five years later fans are waiting for Season 4 (following Benedict Bridgerton's love story) to drop. After an initial sneak peak released on Valentine's Day 2025, Netflix just dropped the official teaser for the next installment, featuring Benedict wearing a mask, walking urgently through a masquerade ball. Women around him are vying for his attention, but he stops short as he stumbles upon Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha's character) admiring a chandelier. He continues to watch her in adoration, until a gentleman asks her for a dance. The scene cuts and the words 'COMING 2026' flash across the screen. But rather than react to the scenery or exchange itself, fans focused on one thing: the release date. And they are not happy about it. Fans expressed their anger over having to wait almost two years for a new season of the show Though the teaser didn't specify when in 2026 the season would be released, fans were upset about the wait time in general. The most recent season of Bridgerton (focusing on Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton's romance) was released back in May 2024 - with the second half following a month later. Waiting two years for an eight-episode season doesn't seem to be worth it for a lot of viewers. 'This is ridiculous, I'm sorry eight episodes of TV should not take that long,' one user on X, formerly Twitter, shared. 'Two years for eight episodes,' another posted alongside a meme of a man rubbing his forehead in stress. 'Still absolutely no reason for a show like this to come out every other year,' another angry fan wrote. 'Like wtf is the TV industry.' One fan pointed out that this would mean an even longer wait time for the season after that. Some fans expressed that they wouldn't be interested in the upcoming season, considering how long it's taking Netflix to release it 'If they know what is good for them, they should start acting season 5 now,' they shared. Some fans were so fed up that they expressed they were no longer interested in watching the upcoming season. '2026!? You guys can keep it honestly,' one user said. 'By the time we make it to the last sibling, every single actor on this show will be geriatric and I will be going through my third divorce,' another user joked. Still, despite their frustrations fans seem dedicated to the series, which has reached record-breaking viewership each season. Just a month after its full release, Season 3 Netflix's 10th biggest English-language series ever - clocking in 91.9 million views just at its release. Time will only tell whether fans are truly too upset with the series to engage during its 2026 release - or if they'll begrudgingly open their Netflix and break streaming records once again.

Huge update on Netflix smash hit Bridgerton after raunchy carriage scene was snubbed for BAFTA gong
SERIES five of Bridgerton is going ahead after Netflix made a huge multi-million pound investment in the show's future. The greenlight for the new season takes the programme way beyond its current four season batch of shows, the most recent of which was filmed last year. 3 3 The Bridgerton story is likely to follow the rough pattern of the novels by Julia Quinn and it's thought the next book which will serve as inspiration is expected to be Elouise Bridgerton's story, To Sir Philip, With Love. But nothing is a given in Netflix's distinctive version of the story. A TV insider said: "After introducing the controversial gender swap at the end of series three which saw Michael Stirling switched to Michaela, there is a chance execs could skip ahead to Francesca's story. "They certainly weren't afraid to dabble with Julia Quinn's timeline by swapping the order of Colin and Benedict's tales." The good news about continuing the Bridgerton saga comes as series three received a nomination at this week's TV BAFTA awards, with Colin and Penelope's saucy carriage sex scene up for the Memorable Moment gong. It was beaten by Chris McCausland's moving dance on last year's Strictly Come Dancing. Series four, which started filming at the end of 2024, will follow the story of the second Bridgerton son, Benedict, played by Luke Thompson. I exclusively revealed last year how Netflix had invested millions in building a huge new Regency-style set on the edge of London, shifting everything from its traditional home on the stunning streets of Bath. It's hard to believe it's now been almost five years since the first series dropped on Netflix starring Phoebe Dynevor and Rege Jean Page, before series two came along and helped firmly catapult Jonathan Bailey to Hollywood superstardom. Last year's third series did similar wonders for the career of its leading lady Nicola Coughlan opposite her character's love interest, Colin Bridgerton, played by Luke Newton. Netflix were approached for comment. 3
