Northeast and Ingram lead Glamorgan to draw at Leicestershire
Rothesay County Championship Division Two, Uptonsteel County Ground, Leicester (day four)Glamorgan 353: Tribe 107 & 342-6 dec: Northeast 139, Ingram 133*Leicestershire 576-7 dec: Budinger 118, Ahmed 106 Leicestershire (16 pts) drew with Glamorgan (13 pts)Match scorecard Glamorgan defied Division Two leaders Leicestershire as Sam Northeast and Colin Ingram led the way to a battling visitors started the final day three wickets down and still 92 behind, but patient knocks from the experienced pair of Northeast (139) and Ingram (133 not out) steered them to 342-6 in their second pair shared a Glamorgan record fourth-wicket stand against Leicestershire of Foxes claimed two wickets in mid-afternoon to revive their hopes but dropped Ingram on 103, and eventually agreed the draw at 16:50 BST. The match will be remembered for a spectacular maiden first-class century by Foxes opener Sol Budinger, after Glamorgan's Asa Tribe also achieved the same landmark in the first innings. Glamorgan started the final day on 131-3 after Northeast and Ingram had survived the final session on day serenely added a further 83 in the morning sunshine with few alarms, as Leicestershire were left ruing Rehan Ahmed's inability to bowl because of a side the Kookaburra ball - being used for the first time this season in the Championship - going soft quickly, the key moment was always likely to be the new ball coming five overs after lunch with Glamorgan still four runs behind. The Foxes turned to spinner Liam Trevaskis with the ball still hard, and he induced Northeast to play an aerial attacking shot for the first time with Sam Wood holding a fine catch running back to Glamorgan skipper, who had hit the county's record of 410 not out on the ground three years previously, had faced 274 balls and struck 16 Kellaway was caught at square leg by Wood off Ben Green for 14, and Leicestershire could have had Ingram on 103 only for Logan van Beek to spill a juggling attempt on the square-leg boundary off Green's bowling. Impassioned appeals for close catches against Ingram and Chris Cooke off Trevaskis were turned down and Glamorgan still had five wickets standing at Patel, bowling his off-spin for the first time in county cricket, got rid of the obdurate Cooke for nine. But first-innings centurion Tribe, who had spent much of the match in bed with illness, came in at eight to make 16 not out and accompany the weary Ingram to the who turns 40 at the start of July, batted for more than seven hours, facing 308 balls but striking just 11 fours as he showed his calm temperament and ability to dig in for the long haul.

Tribe ton boosts Glamorgan at Leicestershire
Rothesay County Championship Division Two, Uptonsteel County Ground, Leicester (day one)Glamorgan 305-5 (96 overs): Tribe 107, Ingram 56*; Van Beek 2-66Leicestershire: Yet to batLeicestershire 1 pt, Glamorgan 2 ptsMatch scorecard Asa Tribe hit a maiden first-class century for Glamorgan as they reached a solid 305-5 on a mostly slow-scoring day against 21-year-old Jersey batter hit 14 fours and a six in his 107 as he led Glamorgan's efforts in the first two sessions. Leicestershire's seamers put the brakes on in the second half of the day as the Kookaburra ball, being used for the first time in this county season, proved tough to get away. All the Glamorgan top order got starts, but Colin Ingram was the only other batter to pass van Beek, with two for 66, was the most successful Foxes bowler. The in-form opponents made changes from their pre-T20 Blast Championship outings with Liam Trevaskis, Chris Wright and Sam Wood coming in for the Foxes while Glamorgan recalled Ingram, Ben Kellaway, Ned Leonard and Mason Crane -the leg spinner having his first red-ball outing of the started brightly with a string of boundaries while Zain Ul Hassan began cautiously before upping his own scoring pair added 98 before veteran Wright, in his second spell, had Ul Hassan caught behind down leg-side for 36, skipper Peter Handscomb wearing the gloves after leaving out specialist keeper Ben the afternoon session had a very different feel as Leicestershire tightened their lines with the older Kookaburra ball to see scoring rates Northeast started carefully and reached 21 before being given out caught behind hooking at Wood, though the ball appeared to have come off his was dropped behind off Ben Green on 76 before working his way responsibly towards three figures off 158 balls, reaching the landmark when he turned Liam Trevaskis to square leg for a couple. But Logan van Beek found the edge of his bat soon afterwards and Hansdcomb took a third catch. Tribe's dismissal saw the game drop into a lower gear as the normally attacking pair of Kiran Carlson and Colin Ingram added 60 at just over three an over before Carlson was yorked by left-arm spinner Liam Trevaskis for Foxes strangely opted to use occasional spinner Rishi Patel to bowl for the first time in the Championship as they delayed taking the new ball for four overs. Van Beek got a reward from the new cherry as Ben Kellaway was trapped lbw for 25 to keep the Foxes in the hunt, before Ingram reached a half-century with few flashes of his trademark aggression to keep Glamorgan slightly on top.

Glamorgan seek T20 upturn under another new coach
Glamorgan will go into the T20 season under new management for the fourth time in four years as they face Middlesex away in their opener on Sunday, 1 coach Richard Dawson, who reached the knockout stages four times in six years with Gloucestershire, follows Grant Bradburn, Mark Alleyne and Matthew Maynard in the role as Glamorgan look to progress out of their group for the first time since 2017."He brings wealth of experience and a great attitude, and we've got to use the depth of our squad, combinations of different batters and bowlers pushing for places," said captain Kiran Carlson. "There's no doubt we've under-performed since 2017 in the T20 and with the squad we have, we're hoping we can find the right balance and this year's the year."We've got to get into the rhythm of it quickly, in the past we might have started a little bit slowly so we've got to start on the front foot against Middlesex." Glamorgan go into the Blast on the back of three successive wins in the four-day county championship, but are likely to change around half the African batter Colin Ingram returns after resting while Sydney Sixers all-rounder Hayden Kerr is due to spend three months with the county as their other overseas player, after stints from Asitha Fernando, Marnus Labuschagne and Matt Kuhnemann."It's about the balance of the side, but also doing simple things well, being sharp with your fielding," said Dawson."There'll be some new faces (from the Championship), we've got youngsters performing in the second team who are putting their hands up for being around the group. We want people pushing each other like in the four-day stuff."Kerr, a 28 year old left-arm seamer and middle to lower order batter, was recruited through Matthew Mott, the former Glamorgan and England coach now working with Sydney Sixers as well as having a consultant's role at Glamorgan. "Matthew Mott saw what I offered to the side in the Big Bash, he mentioned there was a chance to come over, so I'm stoked to be a part of it," Kerr told BBC Sport Wales."Coming over as an overseas pro, you're expected to do the hardest jobs so whether that's bowling the first over and the sixth over, then 17th and 19th, that's probably my role though I'm flexible and I've been really working hard with the bat as well."It's a great competition, though it's hard to compare (with the Big Bash) with the conditions, and the grounds being 15 metres smaller all round. I'm going to have to come up with different ideas to defend short straight boundaries at Sophia Gardens."Among the domestic players likely to be involved for Glamorgan in the T20 after missing out on the Championship are all-rounder Dan Douthwaite, leg-spinner Mason Crane, seamer Jamie McIlroy, and batter Will Smale, who all featured in the 2024 Blast, Douthwaite and Crane playing every game .Douthwaite is raring to go after a couple of hard-hitting innings in the second team's T20 games, following a pectoral injury which brought a delayed start to the season followed by another setback. "It's nice to be back bowling, it feels like a long time, and contributing with the bat as well. It was really frustrating to come back from a productive time in Australia, playing for Western Suburbs in Brisbane, and pick up a pec tear", said Douthwaite."I enjoyed being a bit more independent about my game, I've felt in the past I needed to be spoon-fed or told what to done, so it was cool and felt good for me as a cricketer."I'm as bad as anyone in hating watching, but being able to prep for the T20 has been the light at the end of the tunnel. It's the format where I feel I offer the most, so it's nice to be fit and firing."Carlson has captained Glamorgan to two One Day Cup successes in four years, but can Glamorgan find the magic formula in the higher standards of T20?"We found something towards the end of last year, we want to be attacking with the bat and take wickets with the ball, strangle teams in the middle and use different skills like Mason Crane," Carlson said."There's a few guys that haven't played much red-ball cricket so they'll be raring to go and they'll bring some real energy. They've been playing second-team T20 so they're used to the pace of play." After a warm-up game against Wiltshire in Swindon on Friday, 30 May, Glamorgan begin the official competition on a Northwood ground which produced a dramatic high-scoring game in 2023, Chris Cooke smashing a record 38-ball 100, before hosting Surrey and Essex Wiltshire and Middlesex are double-headers with the recently-formed Glamorgan women's team, who are also starting a new competition after reaching the third round of the T20 Cup.
