Indiana SAT results show students vexed by math, but increase reading and writing scores
Indiana juniors who took the state-required SAT exam improved their reading and writing scores, while posting a slight improvement in math. The 2024-25 scores on the SAT taken by 81,620 juniors showed a 2.7% improvement on the evidence-based reading and writing portion, but just a slight math score improvement from last year. The Indiana State Board of Education reviewed the scores last week after their release. A state law requires students to take a national college entrance exam and receive a passing score no lower than the national cut score. This year's 'at college-ready' benchmark score for reading and writing is 480, while the math score is 530. The College Board administers the SAT. In reading and writing, 54.5% of students scored at or above the college-ready benchmark but in math, just 25.4% received passing scores, compared to 25.2% last year. The pass rate for both reading/writing and math was 24.5%. State assessment guidelines will change next year, as the state board develops a new grading system in line with the state's new diploma standards, effective for the Class of 2029, who begin ninth grade year this fall. Students can choose from a diploma that offers three readiness seals — college-bound, workforce employment, and military enlistment. Under the new model, juniors will still be required to take the SAT, but the scores will only be used toward graduation if a student chooses that option. Board member B.J. Watts said last week he wasn't too concerned about the low math scores because it's likely many of the juniors who took the exam weren't planning on going to college. 'If we only pulled out students who are college-bound, scores change drastically. 'Students may not see their place in that test,' he said. Lake Central High School, one of the largest traditional public schools in Northwest Indiana, with nearly 3,000 students, had the most students passing both portions of the SAT at 51.1%. Its students also had the top math pass rate at 52.8%. Among charter schools, the Hammond Academy for Science and Technology (HAST) had the highest pass rate for both subjects at 21.3%. AP Exam Scores 2025: How to check results online? See release date, rescore request process
Advanced Placement (AP) exam scores for the 2025 testing cycle are now available for students in California, Iowa, Florida and across the US. Students who took the exams in May can access their results through the College Board website beginning July 7. These scores may determine college credit and placement eligibility. AP Exam Scores 2025 Release Date The College Board began releasing AP scores on Monday, July 7. The release time may vary depending on location. Most students will receive their scores in early July, though some may experience delays due to late testing or other processing factors. Students who do not see their scores by August 15 should contact AP Services for Students. How to Check AP Exam Scores 2025? Email notifications will be sent once scores are posted. AP Score Distribution The College Board has released score distributions for all AP subjects. Students can request printed copies of their AP free-response answers for $10 per exam by submitting the AP Free-Response Request Form by September 15. These copies will not include comments or updated scores. For multiple-choice sections, students may request hand rescoring by submitting the Multiple-Choice Rescore Service Form by October 31. This service costs $30 per exam. Score changes, whether higher, lower, or unchanged, will be automatically updated with score recipients. What Are Advanced Placement Exams? AP courses allow high school students to take university-level classes and earn college credit or advanced placement. Created by educators and subject experts, the program includes over 40 subjects. The College Board has managed AP exams since 1955. Exams are graded from 1 to 5 and are recognized by many universities in the US and worldwide. Recent AP Controversies in Florida In Florida, AP courses have faced policy challenges. In January 2023, Governor Ron DeSantis's administration banned AP African American Studies over content concerns. The College Board later revised the course but denied political influence. In August 2023, Florida restricted content in AP Psychology related to gender and sexuality. The College Board warned that teaching a modified version would not qualify for AP credit. This affected nearly 30,000 students. The policy was reversed after one day. In June 2024, DeSantis introduced the Commission for Public Higher Education to replace existing accreditation systems in several Southern states. California students who took an AP exam earlier this year will get to see how they scored starting Monday, July 7. Advanced Placement courses allow high-schoolers the chance to pursue college-level work and earn credit for it. But a low score may mean that a college won't grant credit for the course, meaning you'll still have to take the equivalent course in college as opposed to getting to skip it, according to College Board. Students can visit to view their 2025 AP Exam scores. You'll have to sign in, so make sure you have your login credentials handy — and don't create a new account if you already have on as doing so can cause delays in getting your AP scores, College Board said. And while most scores will be available in July, some may take longer to process due to later testing dates and other factors, College Board said. Expect to see an email when a score is added to your score report, and if you don't receive your scores by Aug. 15, contact AP Services for Students. Trying to figure out how well you did compared to others? College Board lists the percentage of each score earned for each AP subject on their website, and the AP score distributions for 2025 have been released. For example, AP Statistics saw 17% of testers earn a 5 this year; 21% earned a 4; 22% earned a 3; 16% earned a 2; and 24% earned a 1. The equivalent to earning a 5 on your AP exam is earning an A+ or an A. If you scored a 4, that's the equivalent of earning an A-, B+ or a B, and if you scored a 3, that's the equivalent of a B-, C+ or C, according to College Board. There's no equivalent grade for students that earn a 2 or 1 on their AP exam; Scores of 3 and above are what many colleges will grant credit and advanced placement for.
